My thoughts exactly...Beck's good and all, but I mean come on. |
I'm listening to Exile on Main Street by the Stones right now. This album is practically perfect.
|
You know it's not as if we've covered all of Classic Rock. Probably a quarter of the psychedelic bands I listin to now a days have never been mentioned (to my knowledge) in this thread. We still have much to cover. I understand you. I used to hate synthesizers I always thought of them as a cheesy technoy sound but they really fit well with psychedelia. (ex. USA)
Oh yea, I'm not trying to say we covered everything. But we have covered bands to the extent that it just seemed likely to me I would have heard about them before. |

I actually didn't like that one that much. I love Let it Bleed, though. |
Yes it is. I think I like Sticky Fingers a little more though.
Mick Taylor > Ron Wood Wood and Richards are still awesome on that album though. np- Deserted Cities of the Heart edit- I was talking about Exile, not Let it Bleed. I should have quoted Woodstock's post, but didn't expect 3 posts in 30 seconds. |
I don't remember the name, but it didn't seem psychadelic at all, just technoish. I'll give Can a try if I ever see Tago Mago in a store.
Look, Krautrock is Psychedelia mixed with Prog. It's not techno at all.
|
I like it so much because I've never heard these songs before. It's a great album even without hits.
|
Look, Krautrock is Psychedelia mixed with Prog. It's not techno at all.
I was talking about Kraftwerk, not Can. What I've heard of Kraftwerk is technoish. And it's kind of wierd that Exile is often considered the Stones best but has less hits than others. The whole album has a really raw almost grunge feel to it. |
I'm glad I'm starting to see more and more talk about the Stones in here. Begger's Banquet, Let it Bleed, Sticky Fingers and Exile on Main Street was the greatest string of albums released since the Beatles had there string of amazing albums.

I could pull another Who fanboy move here, but I'm not going to.
|
So I saw Bob Dylan/ Willie Nelson last night
It was amazing, my friend, her cousin and I managed to get up about 15 feet from the stage, (General admission). He did alot of the old hits but I didn't even recognize them until the end. I forgot to bring my camera, but I am hoping these girls with a camera will e-mail me the pictures, I'm not sure they will remember though, they were pretty wasted |

I was about to write Tommy, Who's Next, Quadrophenia trio was the best, you beat me. Beggar's Banquet isn't quite as strong as the other 3 but still great. I'd say the trio of Who albums, Let it Bleed, Sticky Fingers, and Exile, and Bringing It All Back Home, Highway 61, and Blonde On Blonde may be the best trios of albums ever. One of the Beatles trios as well, but it would be hard to pick one. Maybe WYWH, Animals, and The Wall by Floyd as well. The list could go on. This would be a fun game to play- vote for strongest trio of albums in a row. |
Kraftwerk pretty much invented techno, and indeed electronica. They were influenced by bands like Can and other Krautrock acts.
I disagree, I think the Sliver Apples should be credited with the creation of electronica. |
You're forgetting Live at Leads.

And The Stones have certainly put out a lot of crap, so has Dylan actually. Edit- I was thinking studio albums which is why I left out Leeds. |

Sorry Lunch. :p Meddle and Dark Side of the Moon could be added on that Floyd string aswell. |
The Who Sell Out, Tommy, Live At Leeds, Who's Next, Quadrophenia is still an impressive stretch, even if you don't like the band.
Edit: I counted Live at Leeds since it was officialy released and used to transform the band's sound as well as keep strong momentum going. |

Speaking of that, Schyma, did you give those live tracks from Wheels of Fire a listen?
|
Wheels of Fire > Disraeli Gears
/has said that many times |
My thoughts exactly...Beck's good and all, but I mean come on.
meh, Jeff Beck never did anything for me.

/just got Tago Mago in the pyschedelic thread
You need Truth and Blow by Blow. |
On a sample basis of all the songs on Tago Mago I say that some stuff is really good and some stuff isnt that good.
EDIT-Halleluhwah is amazing |
On a sample basis of all the songs on Tago Mago I say that some stuff is really good and some stuff isnt that good.
EDIT-Halleluhwah is amazing
I will download that sometime soon, but there is a lot of King Crimson in the Alt and Indie YSI thread :D I don't have anything by them and most people seem to like them around here. |

EDIT-Halleluhwah is amazing
The first 4 songs are amazing but the other 3 tend to drag on pointlessly. That's the most definitive Krautrock album BTW. |
Here it is thanks to Iai:

Harmonicas are way cool. I have an old one laying around my house.
My friend's dad has one of those Dylan-style head-setups with a harmonica. Those things look neat. np: Syd Barrett - Golden Hair |
I can kind of play harmonica...I'm not all that good, but I'm not terrible either.

Did any of you download Tago Mago?
|
G. They didn't have any in C. Is there any difference?
The C is the most common, it has no sharps or flats (CDEFGAB). G is quite close, no sharps or flats except for F# (CDEF#GAB). I like my G the best, if I have to choose I alays bring it because I know more songs in G than in C anyway, you may find the same I would just poke around and play some tabs to learn how to play one note at a time and bend, etc., but after a while you will find it really easy just to think of a song and play it |
Did any of you download Tago Mago?
Yep. Haven't listened to it yet though. Thanks for the harmonica help Walrus. I'm on the site right now. edit- I just looked at some tabs and it looks like I'll have to master some basics first. |

I thought the early Beatles songs would be pretty good. I'm trying Little Child.
|
Try "Love Me Do" when you get the chance
That'd sound good on harmonica. Does anyone own a Neil Young album named "Freedom?" I got it at a second-hand store for $8 when I was first getting into him. I don't hear it get a lot of recognition. |
