Exactly. They chose more popular artists to get more viewers. Also, DT would show up Metallica by playing the songs better than Metallica themselves :p
That would be pretty embarrasing.

Avril Lavigne killed Fuel and Snoop butchered For Whom The Bells Toll. Durst did a pretty shitty job also. Sum 41 and Korn did the only decent jobs with the songs.

Jev 02-05-2006 11:57 AM

Snoop did Sad But True.

But Avril was terrible. When she did Icon, Fuel was the only 'Tallica song she had heard.

Oh thats right. It was soo bad I had to block it from my memory. Is that true about Avril? How could she not have heard Enter Sandman or Nothing Else Matters?

Actually prolly not. That MoP cover sucked really hard. LaBrie can't do James' voice and his voice doesn't fit Metallica's Music. Petrucci is awesome tho

I agree. LaBrie is a great singer, but his style is so different from James' that it slightly ruins the song.

Hmm yeah. I think it's a combination of LaBrie letting himself go at the time the MOP cover and his voice not suiting the music. If you've heard DT's cover of Iron Maiden's number of the Beast you realise he should stick to that kind of singing.

He did better on The Number of the Beast than Master of Puppets, but he should stick with his own stuff.

Huber 02-05-2006 12:55 PM

At Icon I thought Staind, Korn, and Sum 41 did good jobs. Especially Sum 41. They pwned.

Jev 02-05-2006 12:57 PM

Sum 41's lead guitarist had an interesting take on the MOP solo, I have to say.

GenuineImitation 02-05-2006 12:58 PM

The guitarist for Sum 41 is actually pretty good. He's no Vai or Petrucci, but he isnt bad.

I was surprised at Korn and Sum 41, Staind was boring though.

Jev 02-05-2006 01:05 PM

Am I the only one who liked Snoop Dog's cover? I guess I only like it because I found it hilarious.

Huber 02-05-2006 01:06 PM
Am I the only one who liked Snoop Dog's cover? I guess I only like it because I found it hilarious.
Yeah, he just had no idea what was going on.

GenuineImitation 02-05-2006 01:11 PM

I thought it was funny also, but he ruined the song. He didn't belong there as a performer at all.

Thats the Metallica Icon in case anyone is interested in seeing it again.

Jev 02-05-2006 01:13 PM

Video google takes to long to load videos, I always find myself having to pause it to let it load.
Video google takes to long to load videos, I always find myself having to pause it to let it load.
I know. Its like that with every video, not just the long ones.

Britton 02-05-2006 04:19 PM

Mine load really fast

that's a really poor group of people to pay tributes to Metallica

JACKROXYOU 02-05-2006 05:21 PM

They should of had rock bands with talent to tribute metallica

like godsmack or BLS

Britton 02-05-2006 05:24 PM
They should of had rock bands with talent to tribute metallica

Yea

Limp Bizkit? Snoop Dogg? Avril (she's hot and all...but still)

If your happy and you know it clap your hands

LoL

Bazarov 02-05-2006 05:32 PM
They should of had rock bands with talent to tribute metallica

It's MTV. They got to have the bands that appeal to the mass of radio brainwashed sheep.

But yes.. I used to think Godsmack were average. And even though their music maybe average, after seeing them with Metallica, I'll say Sully is a great drummer, as well as their drummer is good too.

BLS_Infernus 02-05-2006 06:12 PM

Yeah I saw Godsmack with Metallica and they are pretty kick ***. I kind of thing them as little 'tallica  The drum battles from Godsmack were kick *** as well

Jim Brewer was to funny on that "If you're happy and you know it...clap your hands"
no i mean only one guitarist during the whole damn set played solos for some reason. it made me mad because i watched the Rock in Rio DVD a month before that and when they played the trooper all three guitarist played the solo at the same time. i wanted to see that at ozzfest but only one of the played the solo.
Wrong.

On Rock in Rio, during The Trooper...

Solo 1 (2:12 on CD, 56:08 on DVD): Adrian (Wah), Janick (Clean)
Solo 2 (2:35 on CD, 56:30 on DVD): Dave (Wah and Clean)

For the bootlegs I have from this summer's Ozzfest tour and the 2004 DoD world tour, they do it the exact same way.

Have you heard of the concept called "headroom"? Maiden have three guitarists because it's "headroom." There's more ideas for 3 guitarists than 2, and there's more possibilities for solos/chords behind solos with 3 than 2. So, stfu thanks.

PepsiMetal 02-05-2006 09:54 PM

Yea that MTV icon loaded fast for me too on google video.

Meh, it was ok. Aside from Sum41's and Metallica's performance, most of it was pretty bad.
They should of had rock bands with talent to tribute metallica

Or Eminem.

Is Snoop Dog really the worst thing to happen to 'Tallica? I thought Avril's cover was even worse.

.:Thrasher:. 02-06-2006 01:41 AM
Or Eminem.

Ye ye ye is ah sad but eh true ye ye

at least Avril sang the song correctly

Jev 02-06-2006 01:42 AM

But that's what made it original. Original doesn't have to mean good.

.:Thrasher:. 02-06-2006 01:44 AM
But that's what made it original. Original doesn't have to mean good.
In this case it does with that raping retard out there

Jev 02-06-2006 10:42 AM

Hmm I really don't know what to suggest. When I played it on my fender I just bent from the 21st fret.

Ladyshredder126 02-06-2006 10:53 AM

thats what ive been doing. broke the string so im lookin for another way.

Britton 02-06-2006 11:43 AM

Korn can't play solo's *laughs*

It was kinda fun to watch.

MTV sucks!

Jev 02-06-2006 11:52 AM

They were told not to play the solos. Being slaves, they didn't.

Britton 02-06-2006 11:54 AM

By who? man if I was told not to play a solo I would sayu "Okay" then go and do it anyway.

Jev 02-06-2006 12:00 PM

I don't know, by some MTV guys. But if they told me not to play solos, I definately would.

PepsiMetal 02-06-2006 01:23 PM

Sum41 played a solo at the end.

Jev 02-06-2006 01:25 PM

Okay, Korn were told not to play the full song, so basically they were told to cut out the solos. Didn't Avril's guitarist play a solo too or was it too hard for him?
