cbmartinez 03-17-2008 07:18 PM

yeah i dig that part at the end when the cut the tempo but the whole song just has that good folksy feel that they do so well

cbmartinez 03-17-2008 08:08 PM

i gave in temptation and downloaded Water Curses and holy shit, it's so good

YDload 03-17-2008 08:17 PM

Unwed Sailor - Little Wars

not the album of theirs that i wanted but its still pretty good. instrumental, a lot like the interludes on highly refined pirates at times (both bands are from Seattle maybe they like each other's styles??)

Happymeal 03-17-2008 08:54 PM

Blank Dogs
John Maus

They go well together.

hooray it finally leaked. took a while to, this one.

Time 03-18-2008 01:48 PM

i liked the stream so I pre-ordered it, and I'm probably getting tix to see Kozelek soon. It's been a good day for me with Sun Kil Moon

i'm downloading this right now

Neoteric 03-18-2008 02:15 PM

Good, everyone should.

Tyr 03-18-2008 02:21 PM

New Sun Kil Moon

It's good, but I think I like Ghosts of the Great Highway better.

Neoteric 03-18-2008 02:35 PM

Give it time to sink in, jeez.

Tyr 03-18-2008 02:41 PM

Yeah, but I think it's a little too long.

perriwinkle 03-18-2008 02:49 PM

theres no such thing as an album being too long

if you think its too long that probably means its boring

Neoteric 03-18-2008 02:54 PM

It felt long when I was listening to it, but I definitely wouldn't say it's boring.

I'll need to listen to this quite a few times to evaluate it, there is a lot of stuff packed into this album.

A Dead Modernist 03-18-2008 02:56 PM

She and Him - Volume 1

I'm probably going to regret listening to/downloading this.

Tyr 03-18-2008 02:58 PM
theres no such thing as an album being too long

Maybe. A lot of the songs felt sort of same-y.

Neoteric 03-18-2008 03:02 PM

I think a lot of Mark Kozelek's melodies are very subtle. I think I'll listen to it really closely, usually with Mark Kozelek albums some lyrics or vocal rhyme completely sticks out.

Tyr 03-18-2008 03:04 PM

Vocals are not that important for me. I almost never listen closely to them. But you're probably right that I need to listen to it some more.

Neoteric 03-18-2008 03:08 PM

Vocals are important to a band like Sun Kil Moon.

I thought Ghosts of the Great Highway was average when I first listened to it, but I started noticing a lot of things from it and now it's probably in my top 20.

Tyr 03-18-2008 03:11 PM

Maybe I should listen to the vocals, then. Someday.

no you won't

Paper Chase - Young Bodies Heal Quickly, You Know?
Parenthetical Girls - Safe As Houses
Youth Pictures of Florence Henderson - Unnoticeable in a Tiny Town, Invisible in a City

3 amazing albums.

okay 03-18-2008 05:52 PM

Sleep - Dopesmoker

this has been really growing on me

Liebensaft 03-18-2008 05:53 PM

What's it sound like? That album's been getting name-dropped a lot lately.

Anxious 03-18-2008 05:58 PM

Its a 50 minute epic doom metal song.

okay 03-18-2008 06:04 PM

just really, really sludgy stoner metal. if you've heard Boris' Heavy Rock, its like that, just slower and heavier

Liebensaft 03-18-2008 06:14 PM

just downloaded it

Anxious 03-18-2008 06:43 PM

Blonde Redhead- "Pink Love"

Mount Eerie- Black Wooden Ceiling Opening

Liebensaft 03-18-2008 06:44 PM

gotta check out that Mount Eerie. Downloaded it last week I think. Downloading new Sun Kil Moon Right now and checking out Why? for the first time. They're good.

samariah 03-18-2008 06:45 PM

good song

ive been digging "Missile" and "An Expression of The Inexpressible" as well as "Loved Despite of Great Faults"

Anxious 03-18-2008 06:46 PM

At first I hated Mount Eerie because he turned into a really really bad singer-songwriter, but this album is like the Microphones all over again..

I'm sorry Phil.
good song

Those are great. I'm leaning towards "Pink Love" as my favorite song by them, but then again all of Misery is a Butterfly can qualify. Except "Equus". Not Equus.

samariah 03-18-2008 06:51 PM

i enjoy that occasionally, not my fave though

Anxious 03-18-2008 06:53 PM

Its a good stand-alone, but it doesn't work in context with the album. I know Kazu wanted to have a song about her horse fall, but this wasn't the time or the place for it.

Liebensaft 03-18-2008 06:56 PM

It seems like I've been missing out on Blonde Redhead. I've only got 23 and ...Certain Damaged Lemons
