superpeer 09-29-2005 08:18 AM

The album is probably too untr00 for you anyway. :p

i've never heard of Old Man's Child, are they good?

superpeer 09-29-2005 09:00 AM

You know, that's what reviews are for, I tell you if they are good when you read them. But yes, they are good, if you like metal.

"Axe" 09-29-2005 09:02 AM

i do. i'll leave now.

EDIT: i was just trying to start some converstation , sorry. i wont bother you again.

superpeer 09-29-2005 09:06 AM

You don't have to leave, you just don't need to say silly things.

"Axe" 09-29-2005 09:16 AM

I bought this last week and its, well, odd.

It doesn't really sound like what Fear Factory used to be, nor does it sound anything like that of Archetype.
Now, Transgression is defined by the words:
A violation of a law, command, or duty
Which is exactly what this whole album seems to be, it breaks the mind set of what "we" though Fear Factory was, but like alot of laws, the consequences of them being broken isn't a good thing.

I can't get my head around this album. It doesn't start all that strongly with the first track being somewhat light in comparrison to previous works however it returns to what they were known for, slightly, up to about track 4. Track 5 comming through, to me, as a heavier version of Invisible Wounds for some reason.

Then. Wow. It takes a very unexpected turn, but, as unexpected, as odd and as strange as that turn is it proves to be my favourite track on the disc.
6. Echo Of My Scream
Burton sounds somewhat like a mix between "Custom" and the singer for Pitchshifter who I forget the name of.

Very light in comparrison to the rest of their "older" work.
It continues like this, Supernova sounds almost Foo's esque, while New Promis is just plain poor.

Then, a U2 cover, wtf??? thats not brilliant to say the least.
And a Killing Joke cover, while "alright", is very repetitive. Not sure of the acuracy of the later as I've not heard the original.

The last track, Moment Of Imapct, a possible 2nd favourite track rekindles some of that lost Fear Factory flame but still sounds half baked and much too mass market.

All in all, about 4 "good" songs on this album and alot of stand out songs but most stand out for the wrong reasons.
It confirms, for me anyway, that Fear Factory are no longer going up hill and that what is fairly mainstream metal was better in its earlier stages than now.

On a plus side, the album artwork is nice and the free live disc is a good addition if quite poorly recorded with a questionable track listing from Archetype.

More of a review there than discussion starter but...discuss anyway.
Since I said review now - 4/10.

i'm gonna make this into a review when i get my real account back.

superpeer 09-29-2005 09:23 AM

You might wanna put just a tad more info in that. But it's an alright review, overall.

will do. it's not a finished work yet.

Bartender 09-29-2005 09:29 AM

It makes an effort to say more than "this song is good, that song has a good riff, etc", so yeah, a good start.
I also missed my first class yesterday. I got all the way to the shower door before evaluating my progress and coming to the conclusion of "Fuck it" and retreating back to bed :upset:
I did that most of last year. It almost got me kicked out :) Luckily Dr Francks is the coolest director of undergraduate studies the world has ever known.

I kind of wish I'd made more of an effort in my first year now, because my timetable for the first half of this semester is excellent almost to the point of being a joke - for all but every second Thursday, I get to pull a Descartes and "meditate" in bed until late morning.

I've done that lots of times. Some days you really don't feel it, and you just want to continue sleeping.

superpeer 09-29-2005 09:37 AM

There was a period that I would never attend classes before noon. :upset:

Jom 09-29-2005 10:11 AM

First improv comedy show tonight!

I'm looking forward to it - rehearsals went well, we'll see how it goes.

I'm so pumped!

Six Foot Revolver 09-29-2005 10:17 AM

Good luck with it Jom!

Jom 09-29-2005 10:21 AM

Thanks :)

It's sad because our show starts ten hours from now, and I have homework + another class to go to.

Ohhhhhhh maaannnnnnnnnnn! Sooooooooooooo excited.

Cain 09-29-2005 10:21 AM

Make sure to make jokes people will actually get. ;) Good luck.

Yeah, get someone to make a video or something.

IAJP 09-29-2005 10:27 AM

I'm sorting out music for my stupid videos at the moment, I also feel quite excited about nothing.

It could be:

It's my birthday on Saturday, and I'm 16.
I'm going on holiday on the 11th.
My friends appear to be the best they've ever been at the moment.
I seem to be able to relax, and have stopped worrying.
The fact that colleage holds possibility of incredibly attractive girls.

Which college are you going to?

EDIT: And by that I mean thinking about going to, since you're just turning sixteen. :p

Six Foot Revolver 09-29-2005 10:31 AM

He is British so would you know any of the colleges except Oxford :p?

Bartender 09-29-2005 10:32 AM

EDIT: Oxford is a University, anyway :) Composed of colleges (Magdalen, Corpus Christi, Trinity, etc).

College and university have definitely had that in my experience thus far.
Anyone else feeling good?
I just found out that the lecture I thought I had tomorrow, isn't on, so yeah.

On the other hand, I feel kind of bad because a couple of the staff at the front desk have taken to calling me by my first name, and I have no idea what either of their names are.

Jom - good luck :)

I dunno.

I live in the U.K, so I thought about it. There's a colleage right by mine, Savio it's called. I wouldn't have normally considered it, yet, it's like 2 minutes away from mine.

Just think, during break times, "Darn, I need the toilet, don't wanna go to the ones in here..." "WAIT A SEC!" *runs home*.

I was considering taking:

Psychology, Genetics.
:)

Good stuff?

I'm just pretty much fascinated by mental health, and all of it's affiliates.

I would appreciate some unglorifyed "real student" views on it. All I get from the colleages is nothing but gold, I need to hear honest stuff. :p

So far we've only looked into some of the main psychologists and their methods/theories. Is there anything you'd like to know about that?

I really want to teach psychology, but I don't want to be a psychologist. It's an entirely interesting topic to me, and I do a great job in explaining it (I had to teach a class a lesson on something in psych, and I aced the project thanks to my natural charisma... I mean, knowing what I was talking about), I just don't want to be an actual psychologist :)

Pffffffffffffffffffffft.

That doesn't detract from her being a psycho.

Bartender 09-29-2005 11:32 AM

I loved Psychology in school (6th form college). I applied for a few Psychology courses at universities (and a Psychology/Philosophy one at Leeds, actually), but ended up just going with straight Philosophy.
