Hello R&M.
Depends what you want. Their first album, Battle Hymns, is still very determinedly pro-heavy metal, war and conquest and everything, but it's a lot more like rock and roll played really loudly, with more distortion, than true metal (probably mainly due to the drummer, who left before the second album, who had a much more relaxed, groovy style, rather than just heavy metal pounding).
Was it Anthraxs' drummer that took over after the first release?

jpj 02-18-2005 06:50 PM

Is there another spwning link about?

Simple Man 02-18-2005 06:51 PM
I reported it in Severe Problems at the Site forum, yet idiots are still clicking it.
Holy crap, You must've done some massive rep whoring.

Who started the link this time.

Their next three (Intro Glory Ride, Hail To England and Sign of the Hammer) are more definitely metal, and not yet into the parodying cheesiness and pretension of their later stuff.

After that, it gets even more hit and miss, depending on your tastes. I love it all, because I take it with a grain of salt; they get a lot more openly cheesy and self-aggrandising - songs like Kings of Metal, The Gods Made Heavy Metal, Brothers of Metal. That's what I love about them, but I can see why people think they're too cheesy.

So..it's rather up to you. If you want an easy, silly, intro from their later stuff, I think Kings of Metal is the "classic" suggestion. It's got some of their better known songs, as well as one of the better DeMaio bass solo tracks (Sting of the Bumblebee), but you could probably do with downloading some tracks first, to see what you like.

Alternatively, a lot of their albums seem to be on sale on Amazon (.co.uk, anyway).
Thanks, rep++ . #2,3,&4 look like my style.

Dancin' Man 02-18-2005 06:54 PM

I clicked but before the whole front page was filled with them. I also made a point of begging for forgiveness.

Simple Man 02-18-2005 06:56 PM
And what do you mean, rep whoring?!

I just want to be looked favorably upon by the MX deities (a)
Haha, I mean whoring, You passed me!

I don't think so, unless there's another Anthrax drummer I don't know. I'm not that hot on Anthrax though, so I could be wrong.

Arucard 02-18-2005 06:57 PM

Whats your rep simple?

Bartender 02-18-2005 06:57 PM
Never mind, 'Tender. It got taken care of. Either you were on the job, or SD or Wintermute or someone else got there quickly.
Wintermute and I jumped all over it. Not sure if we got the original link though, so if you've any idea, help is appreciated.

Bartender 02-18-2005 06:59 PM
Thanks, rep++ . #2,3,&4 look like my style.
The only one of those three I own in full is the second, Into Glory Ride, and I think I'd recommend against it as a first purchase. It has several good songs, but a couple of the songs are really quite slow; too slow to enjoy on a checking-out kind of listen, I think (took me a while to really like them).

Dancin' Man 02-18-2005 07:01 PM

I want to buy one of the MX sweat shirts. Where is the link? I know Yatty used to have one and have seen the link to buy them before but have since lost it.

You missed the rep par-tay that happened at around 3:00 EST today.
I always seem to miss these things. I've been stuck at around 1300 or so for a while now.

Nah I think I'm wrong, it was just some gossip I had heard flying around the net, and wasn't too sure.

I remember the first day I heard Man-O-War, that was special :D

I like to consider my self on of the semi old school members who remembers things like that. How long has it been since Yatty quit MX?
