Festival Express

If this newly released DVD shows us anything, it is that Canadians teens are ungrateful bastards. At least it gives you that idea.

;)/:p
How come? I haven't seen it yet.

What are some highlights of that DVD?

Throughout the DVD the groups' main problem (Other than running out of beer) are the fans. At each venue they attend, there are a bunch of spoiled teenagers expecting to get in for free. The tickets were about $14.00, and they did not except that. One of the towns' mayors actually came out once and tried to force the Festival Express promoters to let the kids in. The head promoter said "No", then the mayor called him an "Eastern wannabe capilistic pig". Luckily the head promoter then jacked the mayor in the face.

No kids were hurt, but one cop was. And that actually made the groups very mad, especially Bob Weir.

Highlights
--------------
Bob Weir and others arguing against some female passenger about the riots.

The Grateful Dead performing an early version of "Don't Ease Me In", and "Friend of the Devil".

The Band playing "Slippin' and a Slidin'".

Jerry Garcia playing "Better Take Jesus' Hand" inside of the train on an acoustic.

Various band members playing "CC Rider".

Conversations between Rick Danko, Janis Joplin, and Jerry Garcia while very messed up on (I believe) beer and LSD.
thunderzstruck 03-06-2005 09:47 PM

I heard Grateful Dead is good but I have never heard anything by them.

Seafroggys 03-06-2005 09:50 PM

I like Deep Purple alot. Ian Paice truly does own :thumb:

Child in Time is probably the best epic song of all time methinks.
I've seen it. I liked it a lot except for some of the animated parts.
The animation in The Wall was great, i like like the movie, but i think the album is easier to follow and in the movie the cut out some great songs.

I was watching the Beatles Anthology last night, i only got though half of it so far, and its great, it shows a lot of their shows they did, as well as the history of them.

ledpoisoning27 03-06-2005 11:11 PM

They got The Grateful Dead Movie on PBS, my local tv station, in the area of Chicago.

Badmoon 03-06-2005 11:21 PM

That's cool. They usually only play a program once.

I own it though, so it's all the same to me.

ledpoisoning27 03-06-2005 11:37 PM

Its great, but i hate PBS because they have 15 minute breaks to tell you do send them money, so they don't need commerical, when their breaks are longer than commerical breaks.

I have a thirty minute live version on my comp. I also uploaded a whole 70mb highlights of In Rock zip file to yousendit, in the hopes of making a Deep Purple thread, but someone already made one.

ATM 03-07-2005 12:54 AM

A 30 min version? Wow, I'd like to hear that. I love the solo in that song.
Great band...Ray Davies is a brilliant songwriter, and I think a lot of people miss out on how influential the Kinks really were. Like Bob Dylan and Bruce Springsteen in the US, The Kinks are one of those British bands that really tell you what it's like to be British, and on songs like You Really Got Me, they laid some of the foundations for metal as well. Apparently, and I'm not sure how true this is, Pete Townshend's riff for My Generations started off as an attempt to play You Really Got Me by ear, or something like that, but it went wrong...the rest's history, really.
Quoted for truth. They were also masters of concept albums. :)

Wow Townshend was way off on that one  I love the Kinks, favourite song would probably have to be Lola. Can you imagine the royalties they must be raking in these days?..with all the commercials that have used "You really got me." Probably more to come in the future.
