Hey classic rock fans, I need your help identifying a song again! :(

There's this really long instrumental song that's always on my classic rock station. It's a winding country/Southern rock-type jam with really slidey, twangy guitars and a cool melody. When I heard the Allman Brothers song "Ramblin' Man" I heard a similar sound so it might be them.

So, are there any long (about 7-8-min.) instrumental songs by the Allman Brothers Band that are usually played on radio stations?

Illmatic 06-22-2005 07:31 PM

"Jessica"?

That would be my guess.

ATM 06-22-2005 07:31 PM

Could it be Marshall Tucker Band's "Long Hard Ride"?

Badmoon 06-22-2005 07:31 PM

Allman Brothers - Blue Sky?

It's a Dickey Betts song like "Ramblin' Man". It is quite a long jam that's pretty Countryish.

EDIT: Oh, instrumental :(

I'm sure we can come up with it though.

Are you winning contests off of these answers? :)

"
Jessica"?

That would be my guess.
Most likely, if you ask me.

Most likely Jessica as Illmatic said, but maybe In Memory of Elizabeth Reed.

Badmoon 06-22-2005 07:37 PM

^"Jessica" is much more melodic and Countryish than "Elizabeth Reed", though. I doubt it's "Elizabeth Reed". :)

Against Miik! 06-22-2005 07:40 PM

I'm just gonna step in here and tell you its "Jessica", especially if the main riff sounded familiar. A lot of people have heard, but don't know who did it or what the song is.

I missed that countryish part :thumb:

Hey, you missed instrumental :p

YDload 06-22-2005 07:45 PM

A quick sample from allmusic.com says it is indeed "Jessica" by the Allman Brothers Band. :thumb:

So, who wants to YSI that baby over to me?

Someone upload Brothers & Sisters, please :(

Broken Arrow 06-22-2005 08:04 PM

I third that?

I dont know what Brothers and Sisters is. I guess an Allman Brothers Album.

Badmoon 06-22-2005 08:10 PM

Yea, it's like 'the Dickey Betts Allman Brothers album'.

Broken Arrow 06-22-2005 08:18 PM

Hmmm, so more countryish?

Badmoon 06-22-2005 08:21 PM

I don't know, I'll I know is that Dickey Betts gets a lot of credit for that album.

Glitterati 06-22-2005 08:35 PM

How would you describe The Allman Brothers Sound? Kinda like Skynyrd?

Broken Arrow 06-22-2005 08:35 PM
How would you describe The Allman Brothers Sound? Kinda like Skynyrd?
But bluesier.

White_heat 06-22-2005 08:37 PM

No, more countryish, jamish, less thick blues distortionish, but ive only heard one album by the allmans and a greatest hits by skynyrd.

Badmoon 06-22-2005 08:37 PM

They both play Country Blues (In a way), but the Allman's are more serious about the two genres, while L.S. adds a lot more Rock.

If that makes sense.

Broken Arrow 06-22-2005 08:38 PM

Hmm, The Skynyrd I've heard isnt that bluesy, but then again I dont listen to them.

White_heat 06-22-2005 08:39 PM

Not really bluesy, but they have that thick distortion, the allmans are cleaner..
I don't know how to expalin it that well

RockAndRoll 06-22-2005 08:41 PM

Skynyrd isn't bluesier, harder, rockier, not bluesier.

Broken Arrow 06-22-2005 08:44 PM

Ok thats what I thought.

Glitterati 06-22-2005 08:52 PM

Cool.

White_heat 06-22-2005 08:56 PM

So how long have you guys been into classic rock?

I've only been into it for about a year now.

Broken Arrow 06-22-2005 08:59 PM

Um, I been listening to it for my whole life but started appreciating it about a year and a half or two years ago.

Got Led Zeppelin II and High Voltage on the same day.

Glitterati 06-22-2005 09:00 PM
So how long have you guys been into classic rock?

'bout two years ago. My sister played me The Beatles 1, and I liked it. Then I bought The Rolling Stones Forty Licks in September '03, and I was hooked. I loooove classic rock, especially The Beatles, Pink Floyd, The Who, Eric Clapton, and the Velvet Underground.

White_heat 06-22-2005 09:06 PM

I started out listening to Black sabbath about 2 years ago, then i slowly got into zeppelin, AC DC, ect... but I've been really really into it for a year.

Broken Arrow 06-22-2005 09:09 PM

Black Sabbath was a big part, I found Paranoid and Master of Reality on viynl just after my dad showed my how to work the record player.

White_heat 06-22-2005 09:12 PM

I still really like them, its incredible how they make music that is truly dark, not just really distorted and fast.

jpj 06-22-2005 09:16 PM

I always liked the classic rock songs I had heard, but I didn't really start getting into it (or music in general) until about two years ago when the Zep DVD came out. My dad got it for his birthday, and I watched it and loved it.

And Sabbath kickass.

TheDMV 06-22-2005 09:18 PM

Just over a year I'd say. BUt I've tried all genres of rock.

ATM 06-22-2005 09:19 PM

I grew up with it, but didn't start really listening to it on my own until about 2 years ago.

My dad used to play Zappa in the car on long road trips, and my mom would sing CSNY all the time.

Glitterati 06-22-2005 09:21 PM

I don't know why, but I could never really get into Sabbath.

I'm really grateful for that, but unfortunately I can't use .m4a. Do you have an mp3 or wav file instead?

I'll agree with you there. :)

/a little late, but Mark Knopfler also played on Jokerman ;)
I started out listening to Black sabbath about 2 years ago, then i slowly got into zeppelin, AC DC, ect... but I've been really really into it for a year.
I started off listening to classic rock about 4/5 years ago with AC/DC and progressed from there to Led Zeppelin, Cream and onto psychedelic rock and prog. rock and into some more avant-garde bands.

BludgeonySteve 06-22-2005 09:57 PM

It kind of works that way. A person slowly gets into prog, and a lot of the time Led Zep starts them off.
