Brit- I used Kristal software (which bites, but it's the best free stuff) and I sent it to guitar->amp->mixer-> comp. i'm getting mics soon. And I've been playing for four years.

The little thingy wasn't bass, it was a guitar doing the bass part (i think you knew that, i was just clarifying).

I don't really like the solo at the end of it live. I think we could just start it off with a quick solo down the high strings on the fretboard with lots of whammy and wah and then just go straight into the solo.

It's kinda boring, but what about a clean harmonics on all strings at the 12th fret. completely dive to nothing, come back up with a distorted e5?

Hey, gocaps has some great ideas.

Instead of just playing bells at the beginning we could play like this:

Bell Ring, whammy stunt, Bell Ring, tapped lick, Bell Ring, etc.

I might be able to go record drums right now so you guys can have a nice Rhythm/Bass/Drum piece to add the leads too. It'll probably be easier. I'm just going to hope my friend's neighbors aren't spatulas.

I have a Live recording where Burton plays an improvised Anesthesia, and straight away breaks into For Whom The Bell Tolls. He keeps his Muff on the whole time, and instead of Hammett doing the finishing solo (Although he does a little one), Burton takes over and goes ape ****.

My recording is probably off. I had to record that in a hurry. (was running late for class) I'll probably rerecord it for you guys on tuesday or thursday.

I'm megaupload-ing it right now. It needs a ton of work. Mostly listen to the beginning parts of the solo, like the bass-ish part and the other part. I'm thinking maybe a wah would sound good? or some phaser? chorus? some cool effect.

How off was it? I might have cut it a little late, but I know that I did mine in sync with the studio recording :x

Hmm, The intro solos ned some work, i like the pre-verse solo. I thought it was a bit too distorted but whatever, it's pretty good.

intro solos? none of that was the intro. it's all supposed to be after a chorus. it does need a lot of work. i'm workin on the distortion/quality. my stuff is suppoesd to get here on the 31st

Back to the Metallica discussion, I have to say I am very excited about where their next album will go. After St. Anger (which I do not like at all), I think they realized that it was a bad idea to produce an album that was as experimental (for them) as St. Anger. I really think they will produce a stellar final album, which will either be an 80's thrash revival album (though that is doubtful) or they will produce a more musical album like The Black Album (probably the most logical choice. The only other options they have are to do another hard rock album like Load and Reload, continue to go into the St. Anger style even farther, or produce something completely new to them and see how that does. I believe the worst option would be to produce an album in a completely different stlye, because even St. Anger showed that if they worked on what they did in that album, they could make a better album using the same style next time around. If they jsut use a new style like St. Anger it may not be as fully developed a stlye as it could be.

Lets all hope for an 80s thrash album. Along the lines of ...And Justice for All. :D

Well playing a live Metallica show is a little different than playing a Stones show. Theres a million times more energy and they still headband and stuff rolling stones just play for the most part.

I wouldn't be suprised if they were rocking out in wheelchairs though.

It is a good album I recommend purchasing it you and the featured bands benifit from this anyway.

There's no way this album will be like their 80's thrash metal and there's no way it will be their last. It just won't happen.

1) Kirk can't solo like that anymore
2) James can't sing like that anymore
3) Lars can't drum like that anymore.

And yes, they'll be playing as long as the rolling bones (whos tix went on sale this morning and were gone 5 mins later :( )

but still they can improve a lot.

they have a kick *** bassist.
they are coming back to the thrash days.

Of course they can't comeback to the roots, but there's many ways to make a good album.

Yea I know. They have a great bassist now, but there's no way it'll be as good as Puppets. To be honest, I'd love another black album.

I just recorded my version of the unforgiven. it's pretty cool. sounds a bit different than the original, but it's cool.

I liked your version of FWTBT. It was pretty cool. I was wondering what you guys were thinking as far as the intro goes. Also, are we still going to play this dropped down a step? I need to have this info before I record.

As far as their new album is concerned I'd second gocaps on another black album or preferably another AJFA. New bassist, new sound.

Another AJFA would be great, but once again the drumming, singing, and lead-ing they can't do that well anymore.

I would like to do it at least 1/2 down. Someone else decide.
