Why should APC stop making albums, They are a great band. I dont know why people are giving Emotive such a bad Rep, The reason for the cover songs? I thought it came out at the right time with america involved in politics. The only thing that bothered me was the industrial style of drums on the cd. I just hope if they make another album that Josh Freeze dosent continue that style of drumming.

I like pretty much everything maynard has done so far. Can't wait to hear some new tool.
|
Well...
Maynard is getting old, who knows how much longer he'll be active in the music making industry, and although I love APC, I'd rather him spend time with Tool. |
My problem with eMotive (besides the fact that the songs aren't that good) is that they released it soley to shove their political views in my face. Besides, they're covering a bunch of anti-war songs from years ago, so they don't really apply to the current situation, and thus are not relatable. War is not war, it's not that black and white, there are many factors that should go into your standing on a situation. It's naive and blind to just have a position of being generally anti-war.

Emotive/Amotion just screamed contract completion. Personally I'm happy that Maynard got his APC contract out of the way so he could get to work with Tool. Howerdell also wanted to go off and do a solo album.

Because Maynard is old and Tool is better. lol. I only say that because I know you agree. |

This I did not know of. Cool, so now Maynard has no reason not to go full time with Tool. :p I have never really been a fan of APC. To me(Don't flame me for my opinion) but they just seem like a more radio-friendly Tool. I have 13th step, and I was not horribly impressed with it. I've heard most of eMOTIVe, and I was also not too content on the fact that they ruined perhaps my favorite Led Zeppelin song, being When the Levee Breaks. Plus, I couldn't agree with you more, Kage. Rep++ EDIT/ADD-ON: I asked this question in another thread, but I'm impatient, so I shall ask here as well, since it deals with Tool. Can someone fill me in on Danny Carey's interests in the occult? EDIT V. 3.0:
You must spread some Reputation around before giving it to Kage again.
pwned by the Rep Nazi. :upset: |
Because Maynard is old and Tool is better. lol.

Thirteenth Step is one of my favorites albums, and I also love Mer De Noms. Billy Howerdel is, in the meantime, going to make a solo album, but if they ever do regroup for another CD, I would like them to keep the lineup they had on Thirteenth Step (plus James Iha). eMOTIVe was a complete waste, the only things I liked were the cover for When The Levee Breaks and Counting Bodies....
I never got Amotion, but I bought the Weak and Powerless remix on iTunes, and it was pretty cool. The video footage they included on the DVD is questionable, though. The videos for Judith and 3 Libras are great, but all this Bikini Bandits stuff was really pissing me off. They ruined Thinking Of You with yet another stupid Bikini Bandits video. All in all, if eMOTIVe and Amotion were indeed the last of APC, then they left with a whimper, not a bang, and some very questionable choices. Still, I love the band, and anything Maynard touches turns to gold. Billy's guitar work throughout was awesome, and he is very underrated. And Josh Freese, the drummer (and busiest studio musician alive) is one of my favorites. |
Still, I love the band, and anything Maynard touches turns to gold. .
Now, now, let's not get carried away. But it's true, I love APC and Thirteenth Step blew me away. Still, I can't say I would be too awfully disapointed if Maynard quit APC so he could focus primarily on Tool, since the opposite has been true for quite some time now. How old is Maynard now, anyway? I hope to see more Tool and APC stuff in the future, regardless. |
I thought I read somewhere that Maynard might actually be giving up APC to do Tool full time...
I don't know how much validity that has though |

I don't know how much validity that has though
While that would be dissapointing, there'd also be a good amount of satisfaction in it as well. Don't know about that, though. Bikini Bandits: Bad idea, bad videos, but can't say I didn't enjoy watching it. ;) |

I didn't realize he was that old. That's cool, though, he's got plenty of experience and wisdom. I could live without the cross-dressing stuff this time around, though. Maybe age has mellowed him out on that kind of thing. I like his APC "costumes" and some of his Tool make ups were cool, but...
I thought I read somewhere that Maynard might actually be giving up APC to do Tool full time...
I don't know how much validity that has though
Though i would also like to believe that Maynard would put full time effort into Tool as well, i would have to believe that the success of APC will not be forgotten. He'll definitely try to keep Tool in the music scene, or so i would think, but also try not to forget APC; the fans, success, and ideology that came with it would be too big a loss to just quit. |
I'm still kicking myself for not seeing APC live. I've read descriptions of their shows, and they seem awesome.
Still, there's no way I'm missing Tool once their concerts start up. |
When one does the math, there's not enough time for Maynard to fit it all in. If they keep putting four or five years in between each album, it seems that the new material might be limited forthcoming.

Who in here listens to Bill Hicks. It is in my opinion you must listen to him to compleatly take in and understand some Tool songs.
|
I have before
|
Hes great there are very few people who make as much sense as him.
|
I haven't listened to him much, but I'd definately be interested in changing that.

and although I love APC, I'd rather him spend time with Tool.
Amen. They need to start working on some more stuff.APC is good with their 4 current albums. If Maynard starts to work more with tool,he'll get double the cash.I hope he does do more Tool. |
APC had a good run
but i am not so sure about thier future, theres only so much they can do, and everything seems very unorganized with them, Tool are much more compact and solid and have a more foreseeable future ok later |
I don't like ACP that much. They have some good songs, but I listen to Tool for the long instrumentals. APC kinda goes against what I listen to them for. I think Maynards time could be better spent with Tool.

Please, don't even hint about this being true. :upset: |
^^^ I have thought that, I too really hope it isnt.
Oh noes. It can't be Tool's last album. I will turn emo and slit my wrists. Guys, seriously.
Kill the drama, noone is going to slit thier wrists because Tool decides to not do another album. Excuse someone for not wanting one of thier favorite artists to quit making music. |
anything new on the release date or possible tours?
|
anything new on the release date or possible tours?
You need only to read the last few pages of this topic to realise there isn't. If people hear ANYTHING new they will jump in and post it straight away. On a different note. Maynard said something like not ever putting half of himself into a band. He said he would commit 100% to projects at a time. Wether that means this Tool album, a couple tours, then another APC CD i don't know. |
The last tool album idea unfortunately holds some weight. Since the members are all geting on in age factor, MJK will bur himselfs out with all the bands he's trying to perform with, Danny's metallic implants are running low on power, Adam is slowly ascending and is now only half in this world, half in the next. And Justin will finally get fed up with American food, and return home to reform Peach.
But seriously, I wont be looking into such an option until i've had some new audio delights from them. And to add to the Bikini Bandits comment, it was played at 12am on Christmas Day one year, I stayed up because I heard MJK was the devil. Worst.Christmas.EVER |

Justin will come home and have some good ol' fish n' chips. Adam, heaven? Okay, as long as Danny can go to. Shame people still get old. Reading some Doctors opinion about 80 years ago I think. "By 200, people will live to 400 years old with the way medicine is advancing." Haha, bit of a random way to finish a post, but then, it was, quite a random post. |
Haven't heard much APC, only Imagine (yes I know, I won't judge them on it) and Judith. Judith is an ok song, nothing incredibly special. One of those retarded songs that starts off heavy and brutal then turns sad and melancholy during the chorus (this ruins many Live songs). Are all APC songs like this? Hope not.
A question I've been meaning to ask... was Maynard a lieutenant (sp?) in the army? If so... LK... Lieutenant Keenan... even if he wasn't one, it still could be that.... interesting... Another question: Do you think it's possible the album will be called Systema Encephale? I think that's what it was (for those who don't know, it's what Tool said Lateralus was going to be, to screw around with the public). |
I saw APC live a couple of years back when they were touring with Deftones and Maynard had grown his hair long enough to sit on it. I was wondering if he truly has some godlike genes or something, cuz one year earlier, not even a year, he was bald when preforming with Tool on Ozzfest.

I love all of Tool and APC's music.
For me, and maybe because Im a girl, APC definitely embraces some more feminine qualities. It is good to see Maynard balance the too personalities. Listening to Emotive for the first time on my birthday, Oct 30, was phenomenal. My 4-unit of best friends and I felt like we were being taken on yet another enlightening journey. Personally, this is because we greatly sympathize with the attitudes expressed on the album. Lets Have a War is my favorite. F*ck Smiley-glad hands... And for me, the songs do relate to the state of the union and the collective unconcious. I could go on and on, but that means we are going to get into heavy occult and spiritual matters, as well as "conspiracy theories" and this is a music forum, so I will resist. Amotion is worth the purchase for the commentary alone. There is also an interesting video collage by Billy that we have watched many times. At first I was put off by the Bikini Bandits, but Thinking of You is a song about masterbation, so the video is justified. Also, I would not be suprised if this is the last album from Tool, and possibly one more from APC before Billy releases his solo project (which I am looking forward too as well.) Then I expect Maynard to become a music Producer & an official Wino. God bless him. I am sure we will see many more artworks from all of the artists involved, whether they are up front, or behind the scenes. |
