Hey guys, I've started listening to hophop/rap recently, and was wondering for suggestions of which artists to explore next.

I've got NWA's Straigh Outta Compton, which I think is amazing, but I don't rreally like the more modern 'gangsta' stuff like 50 Cent , the Game, etc, and I was wondering if you knew any less mainstream artists I might like. I also like DJ shadow and RJD2. Also, some old school stuff like some Run DMC and grandmaster flash.

Any recommendations would be awesome as it's a genre I would love to get into a lot more.

Cheers

Get Rawkus Record's Soundbombing 1, Soundbombing 2, and Soundbombing 3 and find artists you like and explore them some more.

and get INI's Center of Attention because it's the best rap CD out there.

Anyone dig Dead Prez? I never hear anyone in here talk about them.

Kind of like a new, louder, and better version of Public Enemy.

sgrevs 03-28-2007 11:45 PM

they are not better than public enemy. they are far worse.

Quoted for incorrect opinion right here

BlackDeathMetalJazz or really ANYTHING else please- 03-31-2007 10:31 AM

I can't listen to any of their albums all the way through. They suck to listen to pretty much, but I've got a good deal of respect for them.

Dead Prez aren't nearly as respected, but I'd take them over Public Enermy anyday .

link plz

edit: Dead Prez is crap, imo. Racist lyrics, lame flow, boring subject matter. Oh, and I generally hate political raps.

Jesusmafia 04-01-2007 06:27 PM
