Yeah, I'll give it another couple of days, then I'll have a chat with Burt on AIM - Any suggestions on a format?

My suggestion:

Users nominate to me any songs they feel worthy of a nomination for song of the month - I'll probably create a thread for it or something when the time comes.

From there, I'll pass the list to Subtle and Dfelon, (I think that was what Subtle was saying when we talked about it earlier) and they whittle it down to about 4 songs, which are put to the poll for the users to decide.

That's the best way I can think of getting a fair balance of public opinion and writing skill, although I'm welcoming any suggestions. :)
Yeah, maybe having a thread where people can post (or edit) their top five picks and comment/vote would work, because there's a lot of stuff that passes through here in a month. And then cull the best out of there and make an official, visible poll. Somebody's got to do something about all the stickies, though. :D

ATC 04-23-2006 04:15 PM

Writer Profiles doesn't really need to be stickied. That should free up sticky space if you guys are going ahead with this.

Magnus55 04-23-2006 05:01 PM
Congratulations, Timmy. Hope you get to the top 15. Good luck.

I just thought I'd whore my band out just a bit. Most of those songs had their lyrics critiqued in S&L or the LCs so maybe you guys would like to hear how they sound. Finally got around to updating and adding some new music to it that I'm happy with.

Wait ATC are you the singer? I was always under the impression you were a guy named Caleb.

ATC 04-23-2006 05:03 PM

Heh no, I'm Caleb. I can't sing to save my life. I did the guitar, lyrics, bass, effects and production on those songs is all. My girlfriend calls me The Banzo and I figure it makes me sound like a collective.

Magnus55 04-23-2006 05:04 PM

Haha thats what I thought. Anyhow good job on the songs. Very well put together, and relaxing.

jurialmunkey 04-23-2006 06:32 PM

It's kinda Massive Attack-ish... I've only listened to the first song so far. I like it. :)

EDIT: Wait.. The next song is much more folk-sy. She has a pretty voice.

ATC 04-23-2006 07:31 PM

Thanks, man. Massive Attack and Dead can dance are probably my biggest influences. I'm glad that comes through. The second and third are folk-sy songs though. The last one's rock.

jurialmunkey 04-23-2006 07:40 PM

I love Dead Can Dance.. but I haven't listened to them for ages because I've lost a whole bunch of my CDs. Stupid material possessions, oh how I'd love them if they stuck around.

ATC 04-23-2006 07:59 PM

I could upload something for you once my last final's done on Tuesday.

slack 04-23-2006 08:20 PM

Xavier's one of my favorite songs. Great band.
.
Hey guy, I think you have something going here with this band. I dig it.

Magnus55 04-24-2006 01:49 AM
Wow- I'm just listening to the 9 leaked demos from Brand New, Jessie Lacey really is quite incredible with his lyrics. If any of you are fans I'd suggest you check them out.
Is that really Brand New? To me it sounded rather... disappointing.

Mitch2oo6 04-24-2006 02:56 AM

Hey, ATC, nice band man. I also dig it. And the lady singing has a good voice.

Dinosawesome 04-24-2006 05:34 AM
Is that really Brand New? To be it sounded rather... disappointing.
Are you serious? I think they are great- they're only demos so they aren't anything polished, but if BNs new album was just mixed versions of these I'd buy it for sure.

Magnus55 04-24-2006 05:48 AM

Well to be fair I only gave it a brief listening to. Tonight I listened to the tracks more thoroughly. I'd really prefer hearing a finished product before I pass any real judgement, but I hear a lot of potential in it.

Oi and someone has posted some of that *******-esque porn in the lyric game thread... could someone clean that up?

Dinosawesome 04-24-2006 05:50 AM

Yeah, I posted a request to delete it in the "report problems thread" but the mods are slow tonight.

drumass04 04-24-2006 11:28 AM

ATC, that stuff is awesome!! Real nice sound you've got going there :thumb:

News at school today (first day back after Easter), I've won the school round of the county Short-story competition. The endless nights of writing seem to be paying off!!

5 Competitions entered in the space of two weeks. News back from two so far, and succesful in both :D

Hope your all well,
Timmy P

Hmm. Should have spent some of that endless writing learning your "yours".

:thumb: Good job, homie.

metaliq 04-25-2006 12:41 AM

Also, this is interesting.

It is safe to click or copy/past. Whatever works.

drumass04 04-25-2006 02:43 PM

D'oh!!! I should've noticed that!!!

Hope you're all well :P

What happened to this place?

here I am working my butt off, with no time to get on here or even write anything, and now I come back and every one is gone.... I feel like some apocalypse has come over mxtabs forums! <tears>

jurialmunkey 04-25-2006 06:50 PM

Everyone is gone?? Hmmm....

A_Perfect_Sonnet 04-25-2006 07:37 PM

*tumbleweed*

Nightvision 04-25-2006 07:52 PM

'sup tumbleweed?

Yeah, this place is dead right now. Real ghost town.

A_Perfect_Sonnet 04-25-2006 07:55 PM

Speaking of ghost towns, anyone seen Silent Hill? The acting and writing was terrible, but the special effects, music, and set designs were incredible.

Nightvision 04-25-2006 08:03 PM

Not yet, although I'm not too surprised it's the way you described it - the games were almost the exact same.

DeadReligion 04-26-2006 01:14 AM

I've a question about the song of the month. Does it have to be a recent song to be allowed to be nominated, because there was a Sloth one I really liked and a Subtle one that I liked too, however, they are from a while back. Is it cool as long as I provide a link?

Listening to "Eye Of The Tiger" - Survivor

ATC 04-26-2006 01:26 AM

If it's of the month, then it should be from April or something to that effect. How's the editing going,DR?

crimson hands 04-26-2006 08:10 AM

just a sorta random question, how old are people on here? there seems to be a real contrast of ages/maturity, going by the subject matter of the work posted.

(I'm nineteen)

Yeah, it's just April - as long as the song was initially posted after midnight on the 1st of April, it's valid for the competition.

And on that note, get nominating, people... I'll be looking at closing nominations tomorrow evening, so if it's not in by then, it misses out.

:)

EDIT: I'm 21. I'm pretty sure I remember seeing that RollerQueen is about the same age as well... I think we're the resident old folk here, although I'd greatly appreciate being proved wrong. :)
