Nah, the first song is called Metropolis Part I from Images and Words.
The album Scenes From a Memory is like an extension to the first song (hence Metropolis Part II).

Edit: If you get what I mean?

Reywas 08-27-2005 07:16 AM

Scenes From A Memory = Metropolis Pt.2

1One1 08-27-2005 07:21 AM

Ahhhaaa I getchya now. Thanks people. I was thinking they did a double-album thingy like The Wall or Mezmerise\Hypnotise etc. etc. etc.
Yeah but Maynard James Keenan is a total moron, I really dispise him>_<, tool should have Dio!

Octavirium is awesome, the melodic chorus on The root of all evil reminds me of muse for some reason.
i couldnt agree more.

yeah well i think the muse thing is due to the harmonics with the 'dramatic' vocals, if you know what i mean, and the piano ( i am thinking of the right song, right?)...

anyway, the album in general does slightly to me... i seem to remember when muse were first emerging saying they could bring about a comeback in prog, so there def. is something there i think. anyway, i like both bands hugely.

by the way.. anyone... octavarium was my first DT album, and i like it a load, so what would people recommend me getting next ... (im probly getting a job in a call centre for the next 2 weeks, you get pretty big bonuses if you actually persuade anyone to buy anything lol, and if u recommend well i promise i wont phone u lol)

6 Degrees of inner Turbulance was a double album

MRDuCran 08-27-2005 03:27 PM

That's 'Crucify'. It's a song off of James Labrie's solo album 'Elements of Persausion.'

Darkness 08-27-2005 04:30 PM

I listened to Awake for the second time today, and damn I love that cd now. Its well built, and the last song finishes it perfectly.
Taken from DT faq

There are many special things about LSFNY:

- It marked Jordan's first live album with the band
- It's the first time the band has released "A Mind Beside Itself" in its entirity on a live album.
- It's the first time a version of the complete "A Change of Seasons" has been available on a live release.
- The show itself lasted well over 3 hours, after which MP passed out and was almost taken to hospital

Is this what you're refering to?
Interesting.

nowitzki 08-27-2005 04:37 PM
I have the DVD and SFAM performance is amazing. And the supporting tracks are awesome.I mean you get Learning To Live, Metropolis Pt.1 and A Change Of Seasons.
+John Petrucci plays the Simpsons theme on A Change Of Seasons.

Well worth the money IMO.
The set they played in New York was absolutely incredible, and the LSFNY CD is amazing. However I do find the DVD very dissapointing, half of the set isn't even included, and Mike Portnoy's directing is absolutely dreadful. The way it is shot is very boring, just one camera in front of each member, very few shots of the whole stage and the crowd, plus its filled with loads of cheesy camera effects that look pants. And then ther's the cheesy cut sences and acting to accompany the SFAM story.
Obviously still worth getting if you're a DT fan, but the DVD could have been so much better considering the performance.

trev913 08-27-2005 05:07 PM

The LSFNY CD is stellar. That is the only word that comes to mind when I imagine it.

My Dream Theater Set List:

A Change of Seasons
As I Am
In the Name Of God
Home
Erotomania
The Silent Man

Intermission

Panic Attack
The Glass Prison
Through My Words
Through Her Eyes f/ Theresa Thompson (and the JP guitar solo)
The Spirit Carries On
Finally Free

Encore

Metropolis pt. 1
Space Dye Vest*

* = Intriguing fact, from the DT FAQ, this song is one of two that DT has never played live. I'd love to hear it. Also from the DTFAQ, there was originally a plan for Moore to come back for the LSFNY CD/DVD and play Space Dye Vest as a one-time-only thing. But he refused.

What is the other? (or you could just tell me where this DT FAQ is)

They never played it live because it was entirely composed by Kevin Moore, who left shortly after the album was released. MP said they intended to play the Awake album in it's entirety ont he last night of the tour for it, but Kevin had left and it was his song, so they decided against it.

Nice, i might have to try that at my next gig, hopefully Lamb of God or Bodom.

I shared a cigarette with the drummer from Lamb of God in my local record store.

Animus Light 08-27-2005 07:39 PM

Lamb of God came from my best friend's university. KInda cool.

Anyway.. DT is awesome, but I'm largely disappointed with Octavarium (otehr than a few tracks).

MRDuCran 08-27-2005 07:46 PM

Lucky people.

kidthatplaysguitar91 08-27-2005 07:55 PM
Lucky people.
it was a small concert at the boston pavilion so i dont know about any BIG places, like theirs no way you would do it at a place thats alot bigger with alot more ppl

Arrakakaka 08-27-2005 09:12 PM

"Yste Jam" is the only reason to listen to When Dream And Day Unite. I should just delete the other tracks, but the album does have a few good moments.

One of my friend's friends met both of them. Thats awesome.

MAthiAS 08-28-2005 12:30 AM

Dream Theater's Gigantour set really sucked honestly, the only cool things they did were play In the Name of God, Lie and a Pull Me Under and Metropolis medley. No Home, no Beyond this Life, no Learning to Live, no Glass Prison, no As I Am, etc etc etc.

tehnick 08-28-2005 12:35 AM

Did they play shit or was it just a bad setlist choice?

MAthiAS 08-28-2005 01:27 AM

Setlist was poor, the playing was good, the venue had some really weird reverb that made everything muddy sounding though.

That show made me realize how much I really hate new heavy DT, and also how Myung is probably the most talented and coolest member of the band.

Apocalyptic Raids 08-28-2005 01:41 AM

Do they even play The Glass Prison often live?

vashts80 08-28-2005 01:44 AM

They don't play it often now, but they opened most dates of the 6DOIT tour with it afaik. I hope the set for me tomorrow it's the same as yours was, MAthiAS, cos if it was then I'm gonna cry..or something. Oh well, at least I'm seeing them live.
