Kingofdudes 10-18-2004 08:53 AM

I wish I took lessons when I started, my form is terrible, and I dont got much of a drive to play :(

Paranoidd 10-18-2004 08:54 AM

Yeah, I hear you. I've only had my guitar since may, and I try to practice as much as I can, but that is only usually about 1 or 2 hours a night (if that).

Kingofdudes 10-18-2004 08:58 AM

Im hoping to buy a bass soon, maybe that will renew my interest in playing.

(Brian, if you are reading we may have to switch our days around at work)

Paranoidd 10-18-2004 09:04 AM

I want a bass too. I've actually been playing slap on the low strings of my guitar, and I find it really, really helps with writing riffs. I've written some really cool riffs that were basically spawned from playing around with snapping/slapping strings.

Kingofdudes 10-18-2004 09:17 AM

The bassist that Pink Floyd has on the Pulse Live video is pretty damn good. He may not be a songwriter, but he can play a mean bass.

Paranoidd 10-18-2004 09:18 AM

Yeah, he is good.

That second guitarist they have isn't bad either.

Kingofdudes 10-18-2004 09:21 AM

Im not sure, but does he play the solo for Another Brick in the Wall pt 2 live?

Paranoidd 10-18-2004 09:22 AM

I think so. I haven't watched the vid in a while, but if I remember correctly he looks really old, has white hair and a white guitar. He does a cool double-tapping part too.

Just call in, I don't want to work today.

gmoneyguy 10-18-2004 10:04 AM

Im gotta go to physics, but callin because I do not want to work today.

bumskin 10-18-2004 10:30 AM

I'm so bored it's unbelievable, my guitars in the shop having some cool work done to it

Eitri Is Berserk 10-18-2004 01:59 PM

Paranoidd and Kingofdudes..you both want a bass..Bass rules :D I've been wanting a guitar forever now..because I know it helps your bass playing if your playing any other insturment. Anyone know if SX guitars are good? I found this 100 dollar one online..Its got a nice review on it.

Paranoidd 10-18-2004 02:04 PM

I was looking at those SX ones on E-Bay, theres a decent one with a neck-through and a mahogany body for like 150...and it did get great reviews.

I've heard the SX basses are actually really good too (as a beginning instrument, of course).

It's just a pain in the arse for me to pick up a new instrument because I'm left handed, and lefty stuff costs more.

Eitri Is Berserk 10-18-2004 02:16 PM

Left handed..That sucks. Just string it backwards..? An SX bass would probably be better than my Silvertone SSLB-11/BK. But my silvertone gets the job done, for now.

Paranoidd 10-18-2004 02:18 PM

If you've got the coin, browse E-bay. Decent basses sell for a couple hundred bucks sometimes.

Eitri Is Berserk 10-18-2004 02:29 PM

I wish I had the cash..Only time I have money is around my birthday and christmas. I need a job.

Oh heres the link to the guitar I think I want, if any of you want to check it out.

Permanent Solution 10-18-2004 02:31 PM

Meh...I hate the strat look, but seems like a pretty decent guitar :)

Eitri Is Berserk 10-18-2004 02:38 PM

Whats the difference between a Strat and Tele? I'm not very informed on guitars. But if teles are the other type..I know I like the look of Strats better. I like the fine cut body, how smoothly shaped it is, I dont like the box shapes of the other kind, though they must play better, because a lot of people use them..

Paranoidd 10-18-2004 02:39 PM

Nice looking axe.

This is one I was looking at: http://www.rondomusic.bigstep.com/item.jhtml?UCIDs=850849%7C940498&PRID=1472914

Here's the bass: http://www.rondomusic.bigstep.com/item.jhtml?UCIDs=850849%7C1136902&PRID=1206906

I'd have to buy a bass amp though. You can play a guitar through a bass amp but not vice versa.

Eitri Is Berserk 10-18-2004 02:45 PM

I was looking at the Black V, but I know id scratch the hell out of it, no pickgaurd. And I'm pick dumb..so i need somthing with a pickguard so I dont fuck it up and have to have it refinished.

Paranoidd 10-18-2004 02:47 PM

Teles generally have a very "twangy" sound. But they really can be used in any application (James Root from Slipknot uses one). Strats usually have single coil pickups which get more high end, but the one you're looking at is a fat strat with humbuckers, so you'll get a warmer type of tone.

Eitri Is Berserk 10-18-2004 03:00 PM

Thanks for clearing that up so I don't have to spend hours looking through search results :D Damn dial up..I like that lefty guitar you were checking out. I'm normally not a fan of nataural finishes, but that has a dark wood finish, so it looks pretty good. Havn't checked out the bass..again thanks to my Damn dial up..

Eitri Is Berserk 10-18-2004 03:08 PM

Now I've checked it out. Looks good, better than my bass. I wish mine had 24 frets and a body suited to very easy access to the really high frets. Kinda hard to get at anything above 17th fret. Nice looking bass though, which color do you prefer on it? the black or sunburst?

Paranoidd 10-18-2004 03:11 PM

They both look good to me, though I'd probably prefer the sunburst. I need to really learn theory though before I buy anymore instruments. A jack of all trades is a master of nothing, know what I mean?

Eitri Is Berserk 10-18-2004 03:33 PM

Yeah, still I'd like a guitar, just to mess around with. I'd probably play my bass more still, but sometimes you get bored of an insturment and just wanna..play somthing else for a little. Thats how I feel sometimes with bass. And to fill the time that I want to play somthing else..I do somthing else, which isnt helping me musically at all.

Paranoidd 10-18-2004 03:42 PM

I have a piano that I've been trying to learn how to play. It's easier to learn theory on a piano, at least.

http://www.rondomusic.bigstep.com/item.jhtml?UCIDs=850849%7C940498&PRID=1308556 ?

That one's very nice, almost exactly the same as mine except mines a Jackson and has a set of Emg's in it. What a good price that is too!

Paranoidd 10-18-2004 04:17 PM

Yeah, unless you're getting something with P90's like I want, I'd recommend a pickup replacement. It'd really help.

Riva 10-18-2004 04:19 PM

I used to play piano and saxophone, so luckily I picked up quite a bit of general musical theory. However, my guitar theory has a lot left to be desired.

Eitri Is Berserk 10-18-2004 04:29 PM

I like the V, but like I said, ide scratch it up, because I, being a bassist, am not the best person with a pick..because I hardly use them. I'll fix that when I get a guitar..
