Tommy the album.

PinkFreud 06-21-2005 09:40 PM
Any King Crimson fans out there? If so
I listened to In the Court of the Crimson King and I really liked it, what other albums are good?
discipline is my favorite album by them. red is also good. alot of their stuff is hard for me to get into. i love those three albums though. thrak isnt bad either. i have a ton of their stuff. i should probably delete some of it that i dont listen to.

BludgeonySteve 06-21-2005 09:44 PM
You poor kid :(. I'll pray for you.
Don't worry, I'm taking care of it.

BassMasterMike88 06-21-2005 10:09 PM

^
You could always upload some material (hint hint, knudge knudge.)

lunch998 06-21-2005 10:10 PM

If I had known so many of you people were in need of this album, I would have. I thought more people had it then this.

BassMasterMike88 06-21-2005 10:15 PM

Well it was in my pops record collection intil it got scratched beyond reconnizing due to being played so many time.

Seafroggys 06-21-2005 10:18 PM

I've seen Tommy, but never heard the album.....its on my list, don't worry!

Now Yellow SUbmarine is the best movie ever!

lunch998 06-21-2005 10:20 PM

Oh man, this is terrible.

Badmoon 06-21-2005 10:24 PM

I've been into Green River lately. Which is odd, being that several weeks ago I would have thought of it as average or below.

It's very broken down, and quite basic, but of course composed very well. Reminds me of the sounds of an old school high school dance, on a few songs at least.

Badmoon 06-21-2005 10:26 PM
Oh man, this is terrible.
Yea, we need to lock this place down, and not release anyone 'til they have every basic Classic Rock album.

lunch998 06-21-2005 10:32 PM
Yea, we need to lock this place down, and not release anyone 'til they have every basic Classic Rock album.
Sarcasm aside, people should own Tommy.

Jude 06-21-2005 11:03 PM

I'm in need of Tommy as well, and I'm too broke and can only find a few songs from it on Limewire. Anyone want to upload it on YSI? Or AIM it to me -- SN is MisterGroovy1023.

Daniel! 06-21-2005 11:56 PM

It was uploaded recently in one of the YSI threads.

BlackDeathMetalJazz or really ANYTHING else please- 06-22-2005 08:57 AM

Easy Rider was badass.

Haven't heard Tommy yet. (but I have not had much desire to)

The psychedelic San Fran scene is massively overrated.

robo2448 06-22-2005 08:57 AM

I can't believe none of you own Tommy. I thought it was one of those albums like DSOTM, Sgt. Pepper's, IV, etc. that everyone owned. One of the "essential" albums.

Well I'm off to take my last final exam. Then summer starts. :D

BlackDeathMetalJazz or really ANYTHING else please- 06-22-2005 09:06 AM

Good luck with that. :thumb:

Whatever happened to that list we were trying to make of the Essential Classic Rock albums?

Robo gave us a good start.

Essential Albums

Tommy
Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band
IV (debatable?)
Dark Side of the Moon

and... (looks through iTunes)

Abbey Road
The Allman Brothers at Fillmore East (Hey, it's at the library of Congress, it should be on our internet list too)

Keep adding.

RadKeysPlayer 06-22-2005 11:02 AM

I'll add

The Doors- s/t
Boston- s/t
Van Halen- s/t
Paranoid
I'll add

The Doors- s/t
Boston- s/t
Van Halen- s/t
Paranoid
I wouldn't dare say those two are "essential".

American B - Grateful Dead
Highway 61 Revisted - Bob Dylan
Piper of the Gates of Dawn - Pink Floyd

I'd also say Eat a Peach is more essential than Live at Filmore East.

Woodstock 06-22-2005 11:11 AM

Here are some(looks throught RYM):

Village Green Preservation Society-The Kinks
Axis:Bold As Love-Jimi Hendrix
Truth-Jeff Beck
Wheels of Fire-Cream
Deja Vu-CSNY
Surrealistic Pillow-The Plane
I'd also say Eat a Peach is more essential than Live at Filmore East.
Ugh, I'd hate deciding that. I can't chose between my kids. :(

BludgeonySteve 06-22-2005 11:21 AM

Electric Ladyland
Are You Experienced?
Who's Next
Appetite For Destruction
Harvest
Led Zep 2, 4 (atleast)
The Wall

This is the stuff that every classic rock fan has.

/well, maybe not Harvest, because some classic rock fans suck.
The psychedelic San Fran scene is massively overrated.
Why is it overrated? Not Psychedelic enough?

If so, judging by some the other Psychedelic bands you compare them to, they aren't as Psychedelic (Unless you're talking about Syd Barrett). Unlike bands like the USA, melody/harmony play a large role, there is a pop element. They do not try to play avant garde forms and be that experimental, they play songs and covers. And because of this, these bands are enjoyable to more people and at least listenable. On the topic of The USA, I find their s/t extremely overrated; I can't even listen to it.

The people without Tommy should download that before Lunch hurts them.

Badmoon 06-22-2005 12:22 PM

Isn't Lunch uploading that

I'm making a Calexico thread, with mp3's. Though few will be new to you all, that is if you downloaded Convict Pool when I offered it.

BassMasterMike88 06-22-2005 01:20 PM

Thanks for making feel better bout my self PinkFreud, i pretty much have all those albums in the ol family record collection, except for The Kinks, I've only heard "Girl you Really got me now" i forgot the actual title, and to be honest i think it sounds a tad bit like Van Halen, just my opinion, please dont flame.

Are you sure it wasn't that Van Halen cover of "You Really Got Me" :p Cause they covered it. :)

BludgeonySteve 06-22-2005 01:40 PM

That's probably what it is. That's a great song and a great cover of the song. Atleast Van Halen changed things around on their version of it. They gave it some balls and attitude.

Buy the cd, the packet is pretty good. The download should sustain you for a while though.

edit- Badmoon I like the Garcia and Griman's cover of Knockin' on Heaven's Door. :thumb:
