Matt? 01-08-2009 07:10 PM

that wasn't the best part.

christsimpson 01-09-2009 12:12 AM

Sailboats > Loma Prieta.

so anyway is like uh Sailboats the same dudes as Loma Prieta, or did they actually die? I've never looked into that.

whiteminority 01-09-2009 12:25 AM

i hated this band when i saw em. the vocalist was so sweaty

a two show tour in your own state isn't a tour.

My mate loves Loma Prieta, and he told me the otherday that they are the same band and Sailboats didnt die. Loma Prieta used to play the song 'Behind Trees' in their live show. Apparently.

I know they "cover" Behind Trees and they sound almost the same so yeah that makes sense

loved this movie, my friend took me to see it for my birthday and i loved it.

pixiesfanyo 01-09-2009 12:23 PM

thought it was a bit overtly gay. like they were trying to be like "these dudes were fags" way too much.

oh well.

Iluvatar 01-09-2009 01:10 PM
Really wanted to see both of those but haven't gotten around to it. Are any easily online like on hulu or something?
I watched both of them in theaters, but I'm pretty sure they are both readily available on different online sources. But they are spectacular films.

Iluvatar 01-09-2009 01:47 PM

I say* films because they obviously TRANSCEND being mere movies

pride, man.

pixiesfanyo 01-09-2009 03:53 PM

i guess, but like it was so HEY LOOK SEAN PENN AND JAMES FRANCO ARE MAKING OUT HEY LOOK EMILE HIRSCH IS A TWINK.

it could've been subtler and told a story rather than sensationalizing something. its like if you make a movie about black people you don't have them sitting around eating fried chicken and playing basketball. just felt like it was focusing on how the characters were gay a little too much instead of making any actual points.

Iluvatar 01-09-2009 03:56 PM

jared is upset at how they portrayed him :(

whiteminority 01-09-2009 03:56 PM

i disagree, i think that may have been how your perceived it.
the fact that they are gay is a big part of the whole story, i see where you are coming from but i feel like it was pulled off well.

James Franco is ****ing hot in this movie though, jesus.

pixiesfanyo 01-09-2009 03:57 PM

James Franco was great in that movie. Sean Penn was the main detractor i guess, although i usually like his performances. love that Mickey Rourke made some comment about how Penn hates fags as well.

i'd say my favorite movie this year was either Hellboy 2 or Wall-E.

whiteminority 01-09-2009 04:08 PM

Wall-E was badass.

Iluvatar 01-09-2009 04:15 PM

hellboy 2 and wall-e were my number 3 and 4 movies. hellboy 2 ruled in every way

Matt? 01-09-2009 04:16 PM

i have a hard time deciding between all the movies i liked. i just saw benjamin button recently. i liked it more than forrest gump i think(shared writer). slumdog was great but i almost wanted it to be a tragedy instead of having the "comedy" ending. I liked Milk a lot, it was really gay, but i think that the whole "van sant being gay in california during that time period" excuses it possibly... i mean i have somewhat of a feeling that people just were that gay. I guess he could've made it more low key for the homophobes out there but i mean... he's never really hidden the gayness in his movies.

whiteminority 01-09-2009 04:59 PM

What homophobes are going to go see a movie about Harvey Milk?

Iluvatar 01-09-2009 05:21 PM

people who think the band made a movie

cbmartinez 01-09-2009 06:12 PM

i thought franco and penn were absolutely incredible, but have to agree that emile hirsch overemphasized the homosexuality a bit too much, with the shots of him dancing and stuff, little too much. everyone else was amazing though, josh brolin too

Matt? 01-09-2009 06:55 PM

i was trying to be shocking, offensive, and extreme.

like sid vicious

RetiredAt21 01-09-2009 07:19 PM

Sid Vicious was lame-o.

Matt? 01-09-2009 07:46 PM

whatever

cbmartinez 01-10-2009 01:26 AM

also the whole point of the movie was that harvey milk stood for the whole we will not be in the closet and how being so open about it was crucial to the movement's success, so i think that's why the actors played the characters particularly up

flesh 01-10-2009 01:54 PM

Rachel Getting Married was really good.
