I don't remember if it was "Reflection" or "Triad", but I was disappointed with one of them. I kept waiting to hear singing, but it was just a real long instrumental. And I like those, but this one seemed kinda plain. My favorites on Laterlaus are probably "The Patient", "Lateralus", and "The Grudge".
So I downloaded the new album last night. I'm going to listen to it when I get back from class. |
triad has no vocals, but then again, bands like LTE (liquid tension experiment) dont need vocals
So who likes the southern-ish drawl Maynard is incorporating in songs like The Pot and Rosetta Stoned. Interesting.
Kinda harkens back to the Undertow days. Anyways, does anyone else hear a huge Mars Volta influence on this record? Maynard's singing on the Pot is a great example, but something of the compositional approach reminds me of them, too. |
i've only heard 1 or 2 mars volta songs, so i cant really confirm or deny that
|
Hahaha, who messaged me on my dA page "you must have been so...high..."
 |
can someone link me to the lyrics of this album. I wanna learn them faster :D
|
I've been looking for them myself, man.
As for Mars Volta, the Pot sort of reminded me of them, yet not. Maybe Tool have been listening to them, but it dosn't show that much. |
keep looking for lyrics, and post em in here if you find em :thumb:
I will edit : im either the man, or i didnt look that well before http://www.metrolyrics.com/album/12493/2092414551/Tool-10,000-Days-lyrics  |
Now where was I?.. Oh yeah, TOOL!.. I'm not going to reveal my source, Mister Patience, but do you want to know the kind of things that have been going on while this record was being recorded? Okay, first there was the decoy record just to confound all those would-be bootleggers out there. This took, oh, about a year, just because the band members wanted it to sound pretty close to the real thing (so as to be believable), along with equally believable art design. When they weren't working on this grand deception, there were other pleasant distractions.....
http://www.toolband.com/news/letter/2005_09.php What the hell is this? |
Yeah, no-one knows if it's true or not.
|
You know, I read that when it came out, and forgot about it.
Interesting... |
I would seriously laugh very hard if this turns out to be a decoy record and you were hailing it above Aenima.
|
i read about 4 paragraphs before i got bored... sorry
edit :anyone DUMB enough to think this record isnt real... well, im not gonna go there  |
Regardless of this being a decoy record or not, it has quality material on it. it might be better than their other records, it depends what you get out of the music.
|
You know what I just thought... How easy would it be for Tool to record their songs in different orders so they're not quite as good as how they're supposed to be, and ommit words or sections from songs, or make them more simple.
Rather than this being completely different to the actual release, it could just be an edited, or lack of edited version of it. That "Timmah!!12" is making me worried now. I might stop listening to this record until it comes out. I don't want to get attached to bits that could be different... Oh man, dilemma! |
Checking the prices of the album online, this looks like being a cheap purchase, which is good for my wallet. £8.99 is the most i've seen it for so far, which is less than most CDs.
|
shadius, i dont say this much, but you're being gay (referring to that last post)
|
That's as unlikely as the decoy record theory. Timmah is a subliminal message. What do guys on tdn say about it?
|

THe best i've read is that this isnt a decoy, but a B-sides collection and the 'new' album is still to come. Not that I buy the theory, but its nice to think there's 22+ new Tool songs out there. TDN is an annoying place to read, its like the few idiots in this thread copy/pasted onto every other user |

No man. I'm not saying this is like Tool recorded a whole other album as a decoy, but after reading that article, which sounds like it's just Blair messing around, but you never know, it's cast a little doubt in my mind. I'm not talking like the songs are completely different, I'm saying this may be a rough version, or slightly different in some way. Like... At Uni I d/led some Arctic Monkeys songs, Dancing Shoes was among them, and I really liked that song, then when it got released and the album came out, I found that the "take" of the song was different. it was the same song, but different takes were used for vocals, and the song was ever so slightly different sounding, and I didn't like it as much because I was attached to the older version. I'm saying THAT is possible with this leak, and it would spoil the actual record a little. I'm not saying it's true, I'm just saying there's a possibility, we don't even know when or where this leak is from. I mean... "Timmy!" in the background... a little odd. I'm sure that. at very least won't be in the final version. |
I get what you're saying Shadius. So many singles have been released with different mixes, additions and even recordings than the album versions. If this leak is direct from the album, then its unlikely to change much, but if its just the tracks leaked from another source, there could be changes.
Not that it matters too much, there wont be any major changes if so |

Not that it matters too much, there wont be any major changes if so
Like I was saying, there's a (remote?) possibility that the entire vocal takes could be different. Like with a lot of other songs that have older versions. Although, if anything like that does change, I'm sure the later take would only be better with a band like Tool. It's just that sometimes I get really attached to how things are sung, and if it's not exactly like it, I might not feel the song as much. I'm sure the song structures won't really change much, if at all, but things like different takes are possible. Or even more likely, the mixing. If this train of thought is gay, then so be it. I'm just being logical. |
I remember one of The Music's pre-album releases had a song which they released on the album, but managed to remove an awesome harmonic from the bridge. That annoyed me a lot, over something so small as 1 note lol. So I getcha
|
Exactly my point, sometimes the little things matter.
Hmm... Maybe I won't STOP listening to this, but I'm definately going to cool off with it on the off chance that things change. |
i only expect a different track order, and a little better quality
|
i only expect a different track order, and a little better quality
To be honest, track order changing is probably less likely than using different takes for parts or mixing it slightly differently, seeing as the track order has been offically released for a while and everyone seems to have accepted it, and nothing about this leak is official. |
Different track order would be nice.
|
track order makes no difference to me. I basically skip over the filler crap like every TOoL album
|
Yeah... also, I don't mind this track order at all. The only slightly odd thing is the two segue tracks being together, but in a way, Lost Keys is the Parabol style intro to Rosetta Stoned.
What would be a better order? :p |
