i remember when all the classic rock fags got buttmad about there being too many metal threads here like 5 years ago
THose fags were a part of my musical education! haha. jk. but ya. I think that's what I miss here. Diversity. I mostly listen to metal anyway now so who cares. |
6/7th grade: classic rock
8th grade: nu-metal, entry-level metal 9th/10th grade: black/death/thrash metal, started getting into some punk too 11th grade: got into indie, backpack rap, and post-punk, stopped listening to metal for the most part 12th grade: discovered skramz college: started listening to a wider variety of rap and got back into metal |
i really like the smiths, they're great.
|
the smiths are one of my favorite bands of all time
was absolutely obsessed with them in 11th-12th grade, and i still love them |
elementary school - whatever my bro/sis listened to, then started listening to classic rock and the ramones around 6th grade
middle school - old punk, classic rock, metallica, rap, and then all kinds of stuff high school - xtreme metal, all kinds of electronic, stupid pretentious shit, etc. |
I really lucked out w/ my local scene on the skramz thing. Exposed to greatness when I was young and impressionable.
Still bump Harrison Bergeron way too often. |
-> nu metal
-> bad metalcore/post-hardcore -> better metalcore/post-hardcore -> skramz -> punx -> black metal -> now |
numetal
metalcore deathcore tech/melo death brutal death pretty much I have the standard maturity |
I watched part of this movie called Sid and Nancy the other day. It was kinda cool. I used to hang out with a bunch of punk kids. I couldn't stand them tho. Anytime I tried to hang out with one they brought like 5 friends and they all had skateboards.
|
charlotte has a shitty music scene
only good shows i went to were against me bela fleck and the flecktones rancid (yeah i still like rancid i'll admit that) leftover crack |
blockhead have you read saint morrissey by mark simpson
|
Between The Buried And Me and Prayer For Cleansing are from Charlotte, that's all I know about that scene.
|
Tennessee has produced 10 Years, Yo Gotti. Think that's about it.

Seattle has a real tight knit metal scene, I was at a party last weekend with a bunch of people from the scene who've been around for a long time, it was cool to chat them up and stuff.

there were a lot of kids that thought they were punks in sc but they were all just fashion punks. they were just immature kids with skateboards and mohawks. that's not what punk is about, it's not the way you dress it's just a way of thinking. the dead kennedys said it best "punk ain't no religous cult, punk means thinkin for yourself" that's all it means and that's all it's ever meant. |

music scene here is non-existent
completely, totally non-existent, there is absolutely fuck all for bands here |
It's intimidating trying to branch out into Death metal. There are so many damn bands. Think I have gotten to most of the basics. That's my next musical frontier I think.

kinda reminds me of the crass song punk is dead "see the velvet zippies in their bondage gear the social elite with safety pins in their ear i watch and understand that it don't mean a thing the scorpions might attack, but the system's stole the sting" and if you like the smiths, you should really check that book out...he analyzes morrissey's literary influence very in-depth, and shows examples of where he's made reference to them in his lyrics. a lot of his lyrics are literary puns based on plays and books and quotes from actors he loves. |
three 6 mafia
Hell ya. forgot about that. i saw them at one of my friends colleges. On campus show it was sweet. And then I saw the Beastie Boys DJ there. He was amazing. |
snowing, bataan death march, and frontlines are pretty much the only bands worth mentioning from my area
and all three are vastly different and never play together and somehow have really zealous niche followings thanks to the internet, like frontlines is coming back from tour with no bragging rights on monday |

project pat 8ball & mjg his hero is gone from ashes rise
haha i like project pat. i wouldn't call it good music, but it's funny. my friends and i used to always listen to project pat and three 6 mafia in hs. my favorite song was still ridin clean making cheese and get my dick sucked |

project pat doesn't have a lot of lyrical variety but from a technical standpoint he's a really good rapper, he has great flow
hahaha that's bogus
otherwise how was that? edit: was that the tour they did with animosity and giants?
it was a pretty good show. i liked between the buried and me more than horse the band. i don't know if it was that tour. that was the first time i saw people fight dance and i thought it was really stupid. i saw leftover crack at that same venue. a lot of bands play there, it's mostly a hardcore venue it's in charlotte. |
my pants were 'too tight' for hardcore kids when i was in high school
niggas hatin on my delias apparel gtfo |
we do get pretty good shows in lawrence
japandroids, la dispute, of montreal, tilly in the wall, ghostface killah off the top of my head its awesome having shows right at home, its a 10 minute drive for me to the venues any of those guys played at |
it was a pretty good show. i liked between the buried and me more than horse the band.
word, was this like 3 years ago? cause i caught btbam w/ horse, animosity, and giants 3 years ago and it was epic. animosity completely upstaged everyone.
that was the first time i saw people fight dance and i thought it was really stupid.
nigga, i'll spinxkick your face off edit: some crew of pod six hardcore kids jumped a kid at that show though, that was gay. and a cop shot/killed outside the venue during the show, and everyone came out after btbam's set and there were cops everywhere, shit was nuts. lol philly |
Tennessee has Bonaroo at least.
|
between the buried an
|
only show here i've ever wanted to go to was the gy!be show
which ruled, but other than that bands don't seem to want to come anywhere near here |
We get lots of good shows here, I love living in the city because it's only a 15 minute bus ride to most of the venues, which I ride for free anyway.
