yea i was worried that was just my imagination. o i just discovered a great classic rock band by the name of The Moody Blues. now they are good. check out "Nights in White Satin," "Tuesday Afternoon," "Ride my SeeSaw," and "I'm just a singer (in a rock and roll band)."
Hey i saw the moody blues just like 5 days ago when they were in Phoenix. You got goood taste man |
I saw a Beatles tribute band play three songs at Disney World. The songs I heard were Eleanor Rigby, Magical Mystery Tour, and some song my dad didn't even recognize. They were called The British Invasion.
I have 10 of Badmoon's favorite albums. /10 pages late |
Remember Schyma, anyone who dislikes the Grateful Dead is automatically pretentious. :p
Do you know the defintion of pretentious? Do you know who John Lennon is? |
So what if Lennon was pretentious? Most musicians/stars are. I don't really care if he was pretentious as long as I enjoy his music. He wasn't even as pretentious as Paul and half the other rockstars of the '60s. This is a pointless arguement.
|
He wasn't even as pretentious as Paul and half the other rockstars of the '60s.
Wow! That's gotta wrong. Now please explain why McCartney is more pretentious. What's the most controversial/seeking attention kind of thing Paul's done? Give a free concert, "Give Ireland back to the Irish", be a vegatarian? Name me some artists who were more attention seeking than John Lennon in the 60's. I'm not saying it sets his music back or anything, but wow, what an annoying guy (IMO). I'm not even saying he means to do it, I'm just saying it sets him back in my book. |
I know! I mean who wants to be called Jesus Christ? Gosh that would hurt me to the point of tears. :p
Happy postin' for the day.
My nickname is Jesus. I don't mind it, although none of my closest friends call me it. They call me Jeff. From what I've heard in bio's and stuff, John Lennon always had an attitude and sort of an ego. He never seemed hesitant to say his opinion, even if it insulted people. I think we can forgive him though, no one is perfect. |
Paul took control of the group, and bossed the others, particularly George around. I'd say that's pretty pretentious. And though by the later years, the Beatles didn't have a star, in the early years Lennon sung all the big hits and was the leader. He put the the band together and so he was pretentous because he felt he was the leader. If you were a huge star, you'd probably have a big ego too. I think he is pretentious, but I still like him and I feel he has a great sense of humor. Reading the Beatles Anthology is essential to understanding him better.
|
I heard that John was always really mean to George.
|
He thought of himself as leader of the band? That's not pretentious, that's not even weird, more deserving (on both of their parts).
But then The Beatles broke up, McCartney joined a Rock band and released albums, while John Lennon sat on a mattriss, trying to save the world. He painted street signs with quotes from him and Yoko on them, and call others up and tell them "I love you". |
I heard that John was always really mean to George.
No John and George got along better than Paul and George, but George should have been more respected by both of them. And you're right, that example is very pretentious, but if you read Lennon's quotes, it really seems that once he met Yoko he was much happier and at peace with himself and sincerely dreamed of a world where everyone could experience that. He kind of tried to make that happen even though it was an impossible task. Edit- And John made a lot of music during his solo career. Plastic Ono Band and Imagine are two of my favorite albums, while McCartney has made some good music, none of it has topped those. And his other albums weren't that bad, just not as good as the first two. If he had not been killed, he would have made more good music IMO, because his last release before his death, Double Fantasy was very good. It was half him and half Yoko. The Yoko songs ruin it, but if you skip them, his songs are all very good. |
I just hear RAM today, it is incredible. Just amazing, I am going to forget everyting anyone said in criticism of McCarney's solo stuff. It has a bad rep.

Thanks for making me look like an idiot ;) I take back my criticism of McCartney from my last post, I haven't even heard Ram and have just heard his most famous songs. Maybe his career was as good as Lennon's I don't really know. I will get Ram eventually, but today I picked up Simon and Garfunkel's greatest hits as well as discovering my parents record collection . |
Simon and Garfunkel rule, but I only have the greatest hits
It's great music to relax to especially "Sounds of Silence" |

It is incredible, though, especailly Uncle Albert :thumb: I also got Dub Side Of The Moon, which is also completly brilliant. It does the original justice |
I want that.
Desperately. Everyone says it's awesome. |
I want that.
Desperately. Everyone says it's awesome.
Really? Most people don't seem to believe me I would send it to you but I have no AIM or media player, but I will tomorrow :D |
Well most people don't seem to know it exists. But the ones that do seem to really like it.

In Lennon's last interview with playboy he is really down on George and being very harsh, because George hadn't included John in his book. I think both you and Badmoon have good points. |
What's Dub Side of the Moon?
|
Simon and Garfunkel rule, but I only have the greatest hits
It's great music to relax to especially "Sounds of Silence"
I only have a greatest hits, too, and a Paul Simon solo album (Graceland). They're so good. np: The Stooges - 1969. I've been really digging the album The Stooges lately. |
I really like Simon and Garfunkel, I need more of their albums.
|
What's Dub Side of the Moon?
Ive seen that before, im guessing that its dub versions of DSotM songs. And Dub is some kind of mix between reagge and rap, not sure. |
Alright so I just found out that now the metal subgenre "doom metal" has subgenres of it's own, two being "funeral doom" and "drone doom."
Now as classic rock fans (although there are probably also metal fans in here), don't you think it's a little extreme to have to say "I'm a fan of funeral doom metal, although I don't mind some drone doom metal." |
I don't know the diffrence between the two, but im guessing its a small one. Metal fans seem to have a really odd obsession with classifing their music. I mean how many "genre" threads are there?
|
There's been a request for Tommy in the Alt and Indie YSI thread...I'm sure someone has it here that they could post. Jacaranda is asking for it, and he's posted a lot of good albums that I've downloaded, unfortunately I don't own Tommy.

I might be able to do Tommy in a while. |
I can't upload whole albums at a time, and I don't feel like downloading the thing that will let me create a zip file right now.

I need to get in the Alt. and Indie thread, I've only been in there 2-3 times, and not in the last week or so. |
I've gotten some great stuff from there, as a lot of people here have.
|
switching back and forth between accounts still?
|
Yea, it's entertaining. On the other one I have no responsibility to be an upstanding user.
|
Tommy is now up. Unfortunately, my computer was mean and messed up the song titles on the second disc....and I'm too lazy to fix it.
|
Yeah how come the R&M YSI thread is probably the worst in the forums. I usually go to Other Music or Alt n Indie.

Because it's to setup and strict; you're not aloud to even upload or request albums, only songs. |
Do you know the defintion of pretentious? Do you know who John Lennon is?
Notice the smilie. I just said that because you only talked about him insulting the Dead. |
Because it's to setup and strict; you're not aloud to even upload or request albums, only songs.
Ah yes, that's what I don't like about it. No albums. That never occured to me. |
Well can't you get albums from "Trading albums over aim" thread?
|
Don't you ever feel like a Classic Rock island in a sea of Metalheads?
Dub Side of the Moon is a reggae (Technically Dub, but it sounds like reggaee to me *shrug*) cover of Pink Floyd's done by Easy Star's All Stars. It is basically the entire album put to a reggae beat and a with a little more funk. It plays off of the rhythms that are kind of implied in the original (Couldn't you imagine "money" with a reggae beat anyway?) |
Yeah I feel like I can only post here a lot of the time
I also post on The Black Sabbath thread. But thats just R&M |
I only post in this thread, the Pink Floyd thread, and the Beatles thread usually. As well as the sports forum.
