It would be the best song on St anger but it wouldnt fit at all, and they would have had to go out of there way to tune up there guitars to play it

HeRoOfThEdAy1589 05-31-2004 08:57 PM

HeRoOfThEdAy1589 05-31-2004 09:34 PM

hey i know this has nothing to do with metallica(well we could make it be maybe)but im in a band thats just startin out how should we start makin things happen?should we start with a riff and work around it or what?i mean we have pretty good skillz and stuff we jsut cant get started to well.plz reply me and the boys would apprieciate it.

Call_Of_Ktulu 06-01-2004 12:05 AM

If someone you know hates metallica very much what 1 song would you let them hear to change their mind? My choice was

No leaf Clover or One....just to hook them in then some other heavy stuff :thumb:

ibanezsucks04 06-01-2004 12:54 AM

any one ever watch the song "one" music video and get annoyed by the people in the back ground talking over such an awesome song or do you think it adds to the song? I kinda feel a little of both

ibanezsucks04 06-01-2004 01:11 AM
*gives no answer* i don't talk with you. *has an ibanez rg*
In my band either the guitarist writes a riff and me and the bassist add to it, then we go and write vocals, then shift it all around till it all fits, or the bassist will make a riff or an intro or something, which he and I will work on together as a rythm section, and when that is locked down the guitarist and the bassist will work out their parts.
The first way gives us heavier songs, and is faster to write, the second gives us more deph and emotion, but it takes a lot of patience getting everyitng perfect. This is probably down to our own individual styles though.
Someone on here said that Metallica (at least on the Black Album) start with a riff, build it up with drums and bass and rythm/lead guitars, then work out the vocal notes and od a few run throughs with James just singing random syyables to the right tune to check it sounds good, before they go off and rite their lyrics.
Whatever you do you should try a few different methods and find one which suits your preference. In my band we used to start with lyrics first, then one day the guitarist wrote the guitars to a set of lyrics before the practise and we all added to them. We go music first now, as we find it a lot easier.

I think it adds enourmously to the intensity and mood of the song.

jhetfield 06-01-2004 02:25 AM
i liked metallica's older stuff better than there new (who doesn't?), but my favorite song out of all would be master of puppets.

i like how it goes from there normal stuff in that song, to nice and soft and slow, then to unique solo's

i also like enter sandman, its a preety well balanced song.

lets try to keep this thread alive
orion! a power demonstration! noone beside or above! a perfectly balanced instrumental between heavy metal chords and almost classical-pieces of beautiful guitar play! love it! cant get enough! anyone wanna argue?

-there are only 6 heavy metal chords.
-the song is boring as hell
-the song is too melodic
-the solos are boring
-there's only one good riff, the second one
-metallica instrumentals are all boring as hell :)

i am such an ***. look ^ i quoted myself. muahaha.

So...I heard there was a Some Kind of Monster movie coming out in theaters. I guess it's not about Metallica at all though, it's just a romance movie. meh..you guys probly already discussed that. i visit here very rarely as you can tell.
Get the fuck out of our thread man :p
:-*** :p

^^^ it's about the romance between lars and kirk   it's a metallica documentary. it's NOT a romance.

LarsDrummer14 06-01-2004 11:06 AM

Some Kind of Monster

I don't know where you heard that SkoM was a romance... you definately need some more reliable sources. Some Kind of Monster is a documentary of the blood, sweat, & tears that went into the making of St. Anger, (I think it's a great album, unlike alot of people) and shows alot of the bad parts of the band you've probably never seen (but need to see). But enough of my babble... just pick up the issue of Guitar World with em' on the cover and you can get the real story.
~Ryan

'tallica, Dream Theater, and Mudvayne all the way!

Vai's_Jem 06-01-2004 12:33 PM

Hey guys, how good of a singer is Kirk Hammett? I'm must wondering. My guess guess is he's not too good. What do you guys think?

Destruct 06-01-2004 12:37 PM

I've heard him sing a few times, it's really not that bad. I think now that Jason's gone he's taken to singing a little.

Like I said, it's not that bad, but it's definately not great, just one more reason to miss Newsted. :p

Squirrel 06-01-2004 01:21 PM

He's ok - doesn't seem very confident with it; he tends to do it quietly and seems to just want to do it and forget about it.

HeRoOfThEdAy1589 06-01-2004 05:34 PM

how do u get those icons under ur name?cant find out how

Kirk-hammet 06-01-2004 07:06 PM

go to ur profile, and go to avatar, then put the URL of what pic u want in there.

Metallica 4 life!!! I HAVE A QUESTION: WHAT IS EVERYONES FAVORITE GUITAR THAT KIRK OR JAMES USES. mine is James steel plated explorer or his green flames flying V. I wanna get the explorer for my next guitar.
