I have no idea why, but usually the community thread/the pit/ aim chatrooms takes care of all the chatting between users that needs to be done. Also if anyone really wants to chat there's the independent IM programs

EDIT: beaten to it by med

SonorKen 01-11-2005 01:45 PM

Yea, I will create a new Rock and Metal announcement later

bomber 01-11-2005 01:49 PM

are there any suggestion threads in other forums or do you not deal with that?

munky_magik 01-11-2005 01:51 PM

You can suggest stuff in the site forum.
I don't know about other forums.

This guy bumped his own official APC thread from dec

I have an idea though I don't know how it will work:

When a thread is submitted it is not automatically displayed but goes to a thread that is there soley for ratifying the submitted thread, If a mod clears the thread then it is displayed. It would cut down on spam threads but I have no idea about how to do it.

You mean like the pending system that there is with the tabs?
It's a good idea but it would really take to much manpower and time to be run efficiently otherwise huge backlogs would be created and the forum woudl slow to a halt whilst all the threads are being approved.

EDIT: 3 times in one day just really isn't funny :(

Silenius 01-11-2005 05:56 PM

[QUOTE=Med57]It's actually an option with vbulletin, but Jeremy would need to enable it. Although it would work, I'm against it. First of all, as the mods can't be on all the time. Lets say 2 out of the 4 in here don't get on for a day, then one gets on, and approves 20 new threads. Front page fills with new threads, old ones die, and the quality of discussion worsens, as every few hours a new wave of threads hits the front page, rather than them being spread out.[/QUOTE]
It would cut down on spam though, I guess the threads would have to be gradually approved, not all of them at once.

Bartender 01-11-2005 06:14 PM

If it were possible for threads made by members registered in the last month or two to be sent to a moderation queue before being posted, I'd like it.

I'm sure there would be a way to do that if you guys really wanted to.

The main problem I think is the manpower.

There could probably be members besides mods who also do the approving. (Picked by the mods of course.)

The whole thing would take a while to sort out and set up, but ultimately I think the decision relies with Jeremey

Bartender 01-11-2005 06:38 PM

I don't think it's a serious possibility.

Silenius 01-11-2005 06:41 PM

It was just an idea. I was just getting sick of seeing the same threads all the time.

:)

3074326 01-11-2005 07:27 PM

We all are.

Humor99 suggested an idea to Jeremy that would prevent threads with the same title being made, and Jeremy basically said that it would be such an extensive project that it would be impractical. The project would also have to be redone with each new version of vBulletin.

Your idea, while a good idea, will more than likely not be used. The idea is good. A moderation queue (which should be enabled in the Lessons & Articles forum) would prevent any illegal threads from being made, but if there was a period of time where no mod was online, the site would just be terribly boring.

I personally think that the moderation in the Rock & Metal forum is at an all-time best. We have four, dedicated mods paying a great deal of attention to this part of the forum. We're also a close community. The R&M regulars are some of my favorites. :)

Keep the suggestions coming. They're appreciated.

Riva 01-11-2005 07:31 PM

How about randomly terrorising the noobs by banning them all for a day, so that they scramble to find out why they were banned, and hence read the rules. :p

3074326 01-11-2005 07:34 PM

Hahaha

/starts banning

The banning would never cease.

Riva 01-11-2005 07:41 PM

And he stood upon the hill. I saw that bloody ban stick held firmly at his side. His burning eyes bored into mine as the dark clouds above his head thundered and stormed. The smell of ban lay all around me, hovering above the fields of endless noobs. I knew I was in the prescence of the one they call "307... random numbers.. uh.. Jenny?" :p

Simple Man 01-11-2005 07:43 PM

Haha, That's when the ban button in the Thread Tools or where ever would help.

Also you people need to fix the URL's in the rules section, very messy...

Bartender 01-12-2005 12:24 AM

Got those threads. And the links are all fine, it's just that [url=]whatever[/url] tags have been disabled.

LiZZySkYnRd7^ 01-12-2005 12:31 AM

I'm sure you have some perfectly logical explanation, but I want to enquire as to why games are not allowed. Not just any games, but music related. I have seen this on other forums, for example....Lyric Thread..in this you would post some known lyrics and whatever letter it ends on, say the last word is "destructioN", the next set of lyrics should begin with N. I had a rock riddle game thread in song and lyric briefly (before everyones riddles got too obscure, although I may revive it.) Anyway, I'm just curious.

BoboTheRagingHobo 01-12-2005 12:42 AM

Well I know the links are fine, just really messy...

And also game threads are pointless even if they are music related. They are just there for noobs to come in and post pointless things or people use it as a circle jerk thread to boast there post count. They are mindless and are not needed.

Bartender 01-12-2005 12:42 AM

Well, yeah, it's messy, but it's just that the tags are disabled that's the problem.

I think the rule's essentially there because there was a time when there'd be two or three threads going at once with names like "The Guitarist Game!", "The Metal Game!", etc. And all these "games" consisted of was saying which of the two metal bands/singers/guitarists/bassists/etc the posted above you had posted, and then posting your own two for the guy below you. So you'd get pages and pages and pages and pages of;

Go!
Jimmy Page vs John Petrucci

Petrucci
Iommi vs Kerry King

Iommi
James Hetfield vs Dave Mustaine

Hetfield
Petrucci vs CC DeVille

Dude, we just had Petrucci!!! Choose different people.

ANyway, Petrucci.
Petrucci vs Jason Becker

Becker *lots of reasoning*
Jerry Garcia vs Phil Lesh [/Badmoon]

Who teh ****, I ain't heard of them. I'll just say Petrucci.
Petrucci vs Mustaine

For ****s sake choose different guys.

**** **** shut up *******. PETRCCUII!

..

And so on. For two thousand posts. With only a handful of people (like Badmoon) actually coming up with anything original, or justifying their choices at all. Basically spam threads.

If you come up with something original, which requires actual brainpower to some degree, which would actually be fun and reasonably challenging, and not of a postcount ++ nature, I think it could be allowed. I'd go for it, anyway, don't know about the others.

Riva 01-12-2005 12:45 AM

The only original game thread I can remember was started by JMetallica, and sank faster than a stone because none of the noobs could handle it. In my experience, game threads which require thought scare away people who only want to postcount ++ themselves.

LiZZySkYnRd7^ 01-12-2005 01:19 AM

Right then, have a look if you would in my posts or threads, if you are so inclined and take a peek at the thread entitled "rock riddles"...I thought it was perhaps more suited for song and lyric, since it required actual clue and riddle composition...but I wonder if it might be better suited for rock forum. Can it be moved? Do I really care that much? Meh.

*I would've revived it long ago, if I could suss the last riddle  *
