Oh man who sings that song? I completely forget. My girlfriend is like 3'1" and she loves that song

It's ok, Shadows. You're not that short, I thought you meant like 5'5" area.
Haha, no, not that short. I was 5'8" when I was last measured a long time ago. I'm sure I'm taller now.
Haha, no, not that short. I was 5'8" when I was last measured a long time ago. I'm sure I'm taller now.
Ok, then you're still good. There's this kid in my grade who probably just hit 5 ft and he is probably the biggest jackass. He thinks he's got this group of friends that will beat up anyone he tells him to but he's just full of himself...

/kinda emo?

I was 5'11" last time I was measured. I think I've stopped...

Please be talking about comedy, please be talking about comedy...
Yep, very much so :) Don't think I know any other Blackadders.
^ What is that?
A song. A good one, in my opinion, because of how fantastically offensive it seems, at first glance.
Oh man who sings that song? I completely forget. My girlfriend is like 3'1" and she loves that song
Randy Newman. The only girl I used to know who would be short enough to really be considered short (who, incidentally, seemed to be very out of proportion in general), also seemed very fierce. So I never found out what she thought of it.

That's right. I would suggest find out but from the only adjective you used, I think it's not a good idea...

Fixed :p

Right, so I have a question about politicalcompass.org. First, how many of you took that test; further, where did you score? The reason why I ask is that this is my final paper for my IR class:
We started this class by reflecting on world politics and you. After what has been an enriching academic journey through the maze of international relations, we will complete the circle by returning to our departure point. Your final exam (essay) theme is: World Politics and You.

This is free essay on world politics. As a world citizen, reflecting on the world from Michigan, what can you say about world politics? How do you view world politics? What issues/ challenges are the most important to you and how do they affect international relations and the future of the international community?

How do they affect you? Do you think that world leaders pay enough attention to real world problems? Where is the world heading? Can you make sense of what is happening locally and connect it to global forces? What can or should be done -if any- to make the world a better place? These are just a few questions that may help guide your reflections.

You may focus on one issue that matter the most to you (such as terrorism, globalization, the environment, poverty, democracy, population growth, conflicts, etc…), or simply offer a more general view of international politics. Anyway, feel free to reflect on world politics based on your personal convictions, views, and political orientations. Stay away from the textbook and other scholarly references.

As you have probably come to notice throughout the semester, I am a little bit of a liberal centrist. So I will not « judge » your personal convictions and worldviews. However, after taking PLS 201, I expect you to master a number of concepts, theories, and realities, as well as to be coherent and logical in your approach of international relations, whatever your personal political orientation might be. Here are a few examples of assertions that might cost you some points:

« Given its unprecedented military capabilities, the US will always prevail in any conflict »
►This statement shows a lack of understanding of the situational nature of power.

-« American economy and workers would be better off if globalization could be stopped »
►This statement ignores the basics of today’s world economy driven by the US and its MNCs.

-« Over the past decade, despite the new challenges that they face, states have grown even stronger in their sovereignty »
► Such assertion shows a lack of understanding of the changing nature of nation-states in contemporary world politics.

Good luck!
Here's my problem, as I was discussing with Med:

I do not associate myself with any political party. I do not vote, for I am not registered to vote. I have no desire to vote locally because I'm only here for eight months, and I have no desire to drive back to my permanent residence to vote in local elections. So, how would I write this paper without sounding like I don't care about the world?

Well, Med being the brilliant scholar that he is, suggested that I take that exam on politicalcompass.org and talk about the results it gave you.

I haven't yet, but I'm just wondering where you guys line up without me having to read through all the pages of the thread.

Thanks :)

Probably. How short was Napoleon actually?

I'm off to bed everyone, talk to you all later

I'll help out Jom, what do you mean by line up? Political party? Do you have like anything specific you want me to line up with or just a general party?

From what I've heard, about 5'2".

I was just asking what peoples' results were if they took the Political Compass test.

My last political compass test result was
Economic Left/Right: 0.13
Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -3.03

Bartender 12-10-2005 10:17 PM
From what I've heard, about 5'2".
He was about 5'2'' in French measurement at the time, but I think I read that that actually equals about 5'6'' in what we use today. If you combine that with the fact that (I think) the earlier in history you go, the shorter people will be on average, he actually wasn't all that short at all. Still short enough to be noticeable in a great leader, but not as significantly titchy as the stories and legends and such have made him out to be.

Anyway, yes, perhaps she does have something of a Napoleon complex. She's determined (very determined) to be an astronaut, of all things, though I can think of quite a few things holding her back from it.

Jom - if I have taken the political compass test before (which I think I have, actually) then I'm afraid I can't remember the results, and I don't have time to try and help now, as I really need to be getting to bed. Sorry :-/

No worries at all, have a good one.

Why did you ask me about Blackadder earlier, by the way? Just out of interest?

At any rate, enjoy the rest of your weekend/talk to you tomorrow or so.

five feet even?

wow

mine is 5'5, I think. I don't think I would want a girlfriend who is 5 feet tall...that would just look weird.

So, I just saw Final Fantasy: Advent Children. It was a pretty good movie, but only FF fans would appreciate it.

I finally got a DS today, Super Mario 64 DS, and Mario Kart. Any suggestions on what to get next?

Joe 12-10-2005 10:26 PM

Ok Jom I did it.

I still can't download the Audioscrobbler plugin for my iTunes. It keeps saying that I need to close iTunes, when I already have. And there ARENT any instances of it running at all. Anywhere!

BoboTheRagingHobo 12-10-2005 10:27 PM

I am only 5'8", and it makes it a real bitch to ride any modern dirt bikes as they have such a huge clearance to the ground.

Not to mention all my friends are taller then me minus a couple of them. Also it seems as if every one is taller then me when I go to shows as it's hard to see over every ones heads. :\

And FF7 : Advent Children is a killer movie, and for the most part it will only appeal to FF fans which is the sad part.

Just something you said earlier, reminded me of a Blackadder quote, so I wondered. I figured you would like it/him (or would, if you didn't know it already).

A combination of my history classes at school, and almost constant browsing of random topics on wikipedia, I think :) I didn't actually google him just now though, no.
