He's great on the album.
but then gain, he's always good. :p

ATM 01-25-2007 06:41 AM

Damn it. Somebody at work told me Weedeater are touring, but I checked their site and he was lying.

the2stranger 01-25-2007 07:34 AM

:(
That sucks.
I'd bet it'd be great to see them live.
Are you enjoying them? :)

pate 01-25-2007 08:39 AM

Lee Dorrian is my hero.

AlienEater 01-25-2007 09:59 AM
It has a lighter feel then Sunn O))), not as suffocating and dark as Sunn O)))

Speaking of your np, Johan.
Teeth Of The Lions Rule The Divine is a great band too, also featuring O'Malley and Anderson.

np: stoner.
I had a TOTLRTD album but I didn't like it. It was a while ago.

"Feel Bad Hit of the Winter" is an awesome song name though.

I've been listening to a lot Jesu recently

the2stranger 01-25-2007 12:25 PM

Feel Bad hit of the Winter is indeed anawesome title.

I enjoy Jesu every once in a while, but it gets boring somehow. :(
I can't listen to more then 1 CD by him in a week or so.
I'd love seeing him live though.

np: Wormphegm - Return Of The Ice Age And The Tortyant

AlienEater 01-25-2007 03:28 PM

It would be cool to see him live.

anyone heard his other project Final? Its just him with guitar and programming I think, I was wondering if it was good.

the2stranger 01-25-2007 03:33 PM

Never heard of that.
Sounds very minimalist to me.
And I don't like programmed drums, so I bet I won't like it.

AlienEater 01-25-2007 03:46 PM

I don't think its drums, just that keyboardy sounding stuff. I could be wrong though.

the2stranger 01-25-2007 03:49 PM

That makes a whole lot difference.
:)
Now I might actually like it. :-P

I love the synth sound on Jesu.

Iron Bars 01-27-2007 07:23 AM

I downloaded Alpha and Omega by Penence and I got my hands on The Ethereal Mirror by Cathedral. I like at first listen though they are more rock than I was expecting. After a few months of slow Ahab stuff I need to adjust my definition of doom a bit I think.

the2stranger 01-27-2007 09:16 AM

Ahab. \m/
I know what you mean, if I listen to some trad doom at times I wonder: 'Is this even slow?'

Dammit, I want to get my hands of the Comatose Vigil EP, but I can't find it anywhere. :(

I'm now listening to Saturnus - Veronika Decides To Die, after seeing them a few months back.
Excellent doom/death from Denmark.
Certainly recommended.
Although I do not always find the vocals that fitting, he would be mad awesome in a brutal death metal band, but he does a fine job here too.

np: Descending

pate 01-27-2007 04:01 PM

Trad doom is the best doom.

/runs

Iron Bars 01-31-2007 01:40 AM

NP: Ahab - Below the sun

I've been listening to a lot more traditional doom since starting out with Ahab. Reverend Bizarre, Cathedral and MDB have been getting alot more listens the last few weeks.

the2stranger 01-31-2007 09:05 AM

I enjoy all sorts of doom actually.
Really depends on my mood.

pate 01-31-2007 09:13 AM

I can enjoy trad doom any time, but for funeral I have to be in a certain mood.

Jondur 01-31-2007 09:46 AM
I downloaded Alpha and Omega by Penance
That's a fantastic album. I prefer SpiritualNatural personally but any Penance is great. Butch Ballich is probably my favourite metal vocalist (with the obvious RJD exception)
After a few months of slow Ahab stuff I need to adjust my definition of doom a bit I think.
Quite.

Thasis 01-31-2007 02:09 PM
I can enjoy trad doom any time, but for funeral I have to be in a certain mood.
I find it's the opposite for me. But I prefer the non-clean vocals over clean so...

Shattered_Future 01-31-2007 03:02 PM

I can listen to doom (any type) quite a lot.

magicbus 01-31-2007 03:04 PM

I'm still not sure about the difference between funeral and regular doom

the2stranger 01-31-2007 03:05 PM

/Does so. my lastfm top 10 of this week holds 8 doom/doom related bands. :p

[B]1 Katatonia 24
2 ▲2 Spiritual Beggars 20
2 ▲3 Sahg 20
4 Ufomammut 16
5 EA 12
5 Fallen 12
I'm still not sure about the difference between funeral and regular doom
Funeral doom = heavy, SLOOOOW, often crushing in its atmosphere, utterly depressing

Doom = (as Jondur says) anything that stems somewhat from the Sabbath circle of influence.

Daven 01-31-2007 04:04 PM

I really need to be in a mood to listen Trad doom, i can listen to FD almost at any time though.

Grívf - Midgaard

magicbus 01-31-2007 04:06 PM

Oh so Doom could be something with a "moderate" tempo, just heavy at the same time? I thought all of it was sloooooooow.

Shattered_Future 01-31-2007 04:15 PM
Oh so Doom could be something with a "moderate" tempo, just heavy at the same time? I thought all of it was sloooooooow.
A lot of it is rather slow, but not all doom is time impeding. Cathedral have more midpaced songs than anything and they're some of the pioneers of the doom genre.

magicbus 01-31-2007 04:20 PM

So could Sleep or Electric Wizard be considered doom? Or just stoner metal?

I love listening to all this stuff, but I'm lost on all the genres :p

RetiredAt21 01-31-2007 04:35 PM

I love Electric Funeral.

magicbus 01-31-2007 04:38 PM

Yeah, I really like Dopethrone. The sludgy, fuzzy bass is the coolest thing ever.

pixiesfanyo 01-31-2007 08:17 PM

Electric Wizard is pretty cool.

pate 01-31-2007 08:18 PM

Bus, you mean Electric Wizard, an ownage band.
