zomygosh it's Tender, I haven't seen you on in ages!

Bartender 09-26-2005 07:25 AM

Well I just got my internet connection set up here last Friday, but I was back for a couple of weeks a week or so before that.

superpeer 09-26-2005 08:16 AM

I was just in a pub and they had Honey White playing. :cool:²
I was just in a pub and they had Honey White playing. :cool:²
That sounds like a very cool pub. I can't imagine everyone not immediately making out with everyone else when Morphine came on over the speakers.

Bartender 09-26-2005 08:59 AM

Elizabeth

Elizabeth, it surely is most fit
[Logic and common usage so commanding]
In thy own book that first thy name be writ,
Zeno and other sages notwithstanding;
And I have other reasons for so doing
Besides my innate love of contradiction;
Each poet - if a poet - in pursuing
The muses thro' their bowers of Truth or Fiction,
Has studied very little of his part,
Read nothing, written less - in short's a fool
Endued with neither soul, nor sense, nor art,
Being ignorant of one important rule,
Employed in even the theses of the school-
Called - I forget the heathenish Greek name
[Called anything, its meaning is the same]
"Always write first things uppermost in the heart."

Can anyone remember/tell me what these ^ types of poems are called? A poem written to someone the writer is romantically interested is, and whose name is spelled out by the first letter of each line.

magicbus 09-26-2005 09:00 AM

I think they're called acrostics? Maybe?

blueyxd 09-26-2005 09:05 AM

yeah, just acrostic, unless there is a special name for romance versions with names.

My girlfriend just said she thinks she was bitten by a snake on the foot.. but it was 2 days ago and its only swollen now, so I guess everything is fine.. still, strange

superpeer 09-26-2005 09:16 AM

I know it's called an acrostychon in Dutch, but I didn't know the English term. I learnt something today, yay.
That sounds like a very cool pub. I can't imagine everyone not immediately making out with everyone else when Morphine came on over the speakers.
Considering that I was with two guys there, I'm glad we didn't. It wasn't very loud though, only background music, that might have been it.

munky_magik 09-26-2005 09:17 AM
You made him* watch it, I trust?
*her, and of course I did. Though we were the only two who ended up doing so

On an unrelated note, do you have a Geordie accent?

Hehe, all of the ads at the top of the page are for Bartenders.

Shadows 09-26-2005 09:53 AM

It's pretty lonely around here right now. I'm surprised more people aren't on in the middle of the day. I guess that's what I get for staying home sick from school.

Arucard 09-26-2005 09:59 AM

Shadows, your comments on me in the R+Mer Of The Month thread nearly made me cry!

Wouldn't you have gotten it checked out (by someone vaguely professional on the subject, I mean) rather than just waiting to see if it got bad or better?
On an unrelated note, do you have a Geordie accent?
Compared to my uncle and other stronger Geordie accents, I don't have much of one, but often when I'm talking to people from outside of the area (especially my Italian-American great aunt in Florida - she thinks I, and the rest of my family, have "such a thick Geordie accent") I'm told it's more noticeable.

I think I had more of an accent (along with the slang and mannerisms) when I was younger, but I've kind of 'tamed' it as I've grown older.

Arucard 09-26-2005 10:05 AM

Yeh, but putting it in the words you did makes it all better.

Shame i'm just a drunken lout.

Shadows 09-26-2005 10:06 AM

Of course. Your drunkeness is part of what makes you so entertaining, don't kid yourself.

Cain 09-26-2005 10:30 AM
Of course. Your drunkeness is part of what makes you so entertaining, don't kid yourself.
Don't say that! People shouldn't have to be drunk to be entertaining. :-/

Now Joe's gonna become an alcoholic, thinking he doesn't stand a chance unless he's drunk. :p

You would have gotten a vote from me too Arucard, except it looks like we're only doing a one-nomination-a-person thing...?

Shadows 09-26-2005 10:33 AM

Joe will never become an alcoholic! I won't let him throw his life down the shitter, now matter how entertaining I find it!

superpeer 09-26-2005 10:39 AM

I think you can nominate as many people as you want.

the2stranger 09-26-2005 10:44 AM

yes, you can nominate as many people as you want, but as of now, I can only think of one person ho deserves it.

/thinks of what happended last month

Bartender 09-26-2005 10:53 AM

What happened last month?
Well I think each person only needs one nomination to go through to the next round, so it doesn't matter if you vote for him again or not, for example.

magik - why do you ask?

Shadows 09-26-2005 10:55 AM

Wow, this new Cryptopsy album really, really blows.

Al is looking for Geordies to add to his collection of people with cool accents, he puts them in glass jars. He already has Welsh and Scousers (?).

Bartender 09-26-2005 10:59 AM

Well I knew he was seeking Geordies, but I thought I was safe, being miles away from him :(

This nails it pretty well.

Adding more nominations never hurts though because it'll just give that person more recognition for what they do anyways.
