I'd spoil it by just listening to one (two including Vicarious) songs off the album rather than getting the whole thing to listen to in one go. The whole thing in one go thing is the experience for me. Then after that disecting it, rather than the other way around.

Just get the whole thing you numpty!
you took the words out of my mouth! except for 'numpty' wtf's a numpty?:p

If you have to ask, you'll never know. :p

Duncster 04-19-2006 01:49 PM

I always thought about how I wanted to write a song in 9/8 since I almost never heard it. Tool stole my idea.
bastards.

repcak 04-19-2006 01:50 PM

i just listen to the new single-release by tool.
the first notes and you know its tool... amazing. i like it... can't wait for the album

clearvision 04-19-2006 01:51 PM
I don't see Lateralus in this album besides the first two tracks.
I see this as the counterpart to Undertow in it's mood, opposite to it's anger but the same feeling. Sounds nothing like it but feeling-wise.
Most of the tracks wash over me like d/r/t does on lateralus. Especially rosetta stoned onwards...

Isn't Right in Two about the monkeys?

SmashingPumpkin 04-19-2006 02:11 PM

How can one not like The Pot? It's simply amazing.

kurrpt 04-19-2006 02:11 PM

haha

the "monkeys" are what maynard is referring to as humans. In the beginning of the track, he talks about angels watching the humans, stating that they have plenty to live on, etc. To me, the song seems like its about the angels asking God "why did you give them free will"

monkeys killing monkeys symbolizes war imo...

edit : ive only listened to this track twice. Ill elaborate more later

Prince of Darkness 04-19-2006 02:13 PM

sorry, but i've only listened to that song once and I've missed the lyrics as yet.

oh yeah! Now I remember. That's some good lyrics.

SmashingPumpkin 04-19-2006 02:13 PM

i didnt read the lyrics, but merely listened.

i hate people that READ into TOoL lyrics, but this seems like the most basic explanation

Monkey killing monkeys over pieces of the ground. Definetly about war.

i couldnt decipher most of the lyrics, because i was pulled into the music. Its weird, because when i got into TOoL, it was the exact opposite. Since i've played guitar 2 years ago, it slowly went went the other way.

weird

Futuro 04-19-2006 02:26 PM

Yeah Im not a lyric man myself, I enjoy good lyrics, But I just randomly heard that section. Drums FTW :D

kurrpt 04-19-2006 02:30 PM

yea, i figured, considering your "traditional grip" UT

is that where the right is holding the stick sideways

If your kit is left handed the right hand would be sideways.

Theres a good example of a right handed trad grip.

Right handed as in right hand kit, Left hand is sideways...

I suck at explanations :'(

Duncster 04-19-2006 02:42 PM
