I decided to be lazy and teach all of my students how to play Paint It Black tonight, except one student who I taught House of the Rising Sun, and another who I taught a couple Metallica intros.
I've got a question...is the intro to Paint it Black a sitar or a guitar? I think it's a guitar but some argue differently. |
Hey dudes. I'm doing a presentation on mythological influence in classic rock, and I need some ideas for songs that are based off of myths. For example:
Cream - Tales of Brave Ulysses Led Zeppelin - Achilles' Last Stand Pink Floyd - Sysyphus pts.1-4 Any ideas?
Grateful Dead - Terrapin Station Grateful Dead - Samson & Delilah "Samson & Delilah" is a first testament story. It is a traditional song, but I really like the Dead's version. Rev. Gary Davis also does a fine job at it. "Terrapin Station" deals with Christian mythology, but also various ancient beliefs. It is based upon the belief that the world sits ontop of a terrapin's (turtle) back. On the top is Heaven, the middle is Earth, and the bottom is Hell. That is if you are looking for anything other than the Greek, Roman, and Egyptian mythology. |
Good thinking Badmoon.
I wish I could post clips of my guitar playing, I've been learning various soloing techniques...I can make my guitar playing exactly like a pedal steel guitar by using various slide, bend and chordal techniques. I've never been so proud of my guitar playing in my life. |

You should look into getting a new avatar...as much as I love Zeppelin, that is the ultimate n00b avatar. No offense meant by that. There are a lot better pics you could use of Zeppelin (or anything). |

Yea I actually hate this avatar. I would change it but I don't know how. |
Well, you have to find an image you like, shrink it through photoshop or something (Do not use paint. If you cannot shrink it send it to one of us.). At that time, it should be in a folder like "Pictures", then you simply go to EDIT AVATAR, and browse your folders to find the image. And that's it.
:) It needs to be at most 70 by 70 pixels. |

Scroll up near the top of this screen and you will see a link going to User CP, click it, and scroll down and look on the left it will say Edit Avatar. Then scroll down and click Use Imported Avatar (or something like that), then you can give a link, or import a picture of your choice. edit- Combine mine and Badmoons directions. |

That is true to the full extent of the law. Disconnection Notice, was that you that used to have the good Dylan avatar? Or was that Creedence? |

That just means you are a good person. :thumb: Did you go to either of those sites me or Badmoon suggested? |

Disconnection Notice, was that you that used to have the good Dylan avatar? Or was that Creedence?
That was Creedence Clearwater. Avatars I've had: Red Sox logo cover of T.Rex's "Electric Warrior" Bill Belichick Manny Ramirez and now Bootsy Collins |
Yes, but it would be worth it. Oh yes.
I wouldn't say so. Too much dicipline is needed. I could never find fun out of what my friend (who plays it) describes. |
You know just to bring up another point about Bob Dylan, it is really a shame how many people don't listen to him just because he isn't a good singer. You know there is a lot more to rock the vocals and I think thats what Dylan Represents (among many other things).
|
I think Dylan's voice was/is great.
|
What's up people? If anybody can name my avatar Ill give them rep until I die. :)
|
His live voice was sometimes actually attrocious. I'm a huge fan of his and all, I don't think he had a really bad voice...but sometime's he was just taking on too many roles. In his earlier days where he would be fingerpicking and singing (some of his lyrics were pretty fast too), and playing harmonica...he would run out of breath after a while.
I like his voice though overall, it seems more real and down to earth, makes his music much more personal sounding. |

I think it was great for his songs, but overall sombody who doesn't have an open mind won't like it. |
His voice is very deep (not in terms of sound but in terms of emotional depth and range).

Oh it's um 65846154684426... oh right, the mods said I could never use that combination of letters or else it would come out as a jumble of random numbers. It's just because of a virus I have ;) rep? |

I agree with DC. His vocals blend great with his music. My freinds have just recently been exposed to Dylan and they love him. |

The United States of America - s/t Easy |
My friends came over to do homework when there was a Bob Dylan interview on 60 minutes not too long ago...I was watching (and taping) the interview, and not doing my homework. They just couldn't figure out why on earth I could like him....needless to say....I slaughtered them mercilessly.

Easy
Well done. You're lucky it doesn't turn into a jumble of numbers for you too. What are some songs by the United States of America? I don't think I've ever heard them. |
Now, where is my user titled from. It is a song from a well known album made by a well known artist.
It is also a cover he did, but an unknown man (not traditional). /tips |

What?! And I haven't heard much from them. I just know that album cover very well, and knew who's it was. |
