The Beatles and Led Zeppelin is a good place to start too
|
Listen to any beatles album.
Led Zeppelin Remasters Pink Floyd dark side of the moon the who then and now experience hendrix john lennon imagine there's some starters :thumb: |
Beatles, Zeppelin, The Who (favourite classic rock band), Cream and Hendrix are some good bands
|
I think we should've just been mean to him like DN. It's funnier.
So this Dr. John album is really cool, very laid back. |
About the influence on punk topic, the Sex Pistols covered a Who song - Substitute.
|
well lets see, Iggy Pop said that he was influenced to get out and play by hearing the Velvets, and from that the Ramones said they were influenced by Iggy and the list will go on from there.
*ears prick up at the mention of Velvet Underground* |
And Tommy wasn't the first rock oprea, other bands had done it, but not as well. Also I may be wrong about this, so I would like it if people could tell me, but I belive the Beatles could't tour because of threats from groups like the KKK and well they were just too popular. But I may be wrong I heard this on the internet is it true?
I think it was after the whole "More popular that Jesus" thing that John said that pissed off all of those bible-belters. After that crowds got rowdier and somebody threw a firecracker at the stage and almost injured them, which was the straw that broke the camel's back I think. Maybe the KKK was involved, they're supposed to be religious fundamentalists too, right? |
Yeah the Velvets were pretty influential but for me Black Sabbath is the most influential. I mean they created a genre. MAd props :chug:
|
I've never heard a song from Velvet Underground, I'm downloading one as I type this. "Crimson and Clover"
|
Speaking of the Who......today is Roger Daltrey's birthday.
Speaking of the Doors today is the day Jim got arrested for indecent exposure. Speaking of "A Litte Less Conversation" (remix) it is awesome. |
Indecent exposure.. is that what he got arrested in New Haven for?
|
I've never heard a song from Velvet Underground, I'm downloading one as I type this. "Crimson and Clover"
If you like that, get Heroin and Sweet Jane. Two songs that got me into them |
Indecent exposure.. is that what he got arrested in New Haven for?
In New Haven he was arrested for starting a riot. He was arrested in Miami (or somewhere in Florida) today for indecent exposure. Just two of the eleven arrests in his short life. |
An realAmerican Hero if there ever was one
|
Have any of you guys read the book "The Lost Writings of Jim Morrison"? A friend lent it to me today and I've been reading it non stop.
|
This last Sunday I found out that Jim Capaldi died... that sucks... And he died like in January... I feel even more sad for not knowing it for a whole month. Two members of Traffic are now gone...

Psssft, he's barried in Paris, wasn't exactly pro-American and was from Southern California. Not my American Hero  |
I've never heard a song from Velvet Underground, I'm downloading one as I type this. "Crimson and Clover"
also download 'rock and roll' by them, it is my favorite song of theirs next to 'Herion' and 'Sweet Jane' |
Psssft, he's born in Paris, wasn't exactly pro-American and was from Southern California.
NOT MY AMERICAN HERE!!!!!
/at least 50% sarcastic Born in Paris? What were his parents? |
No, I recall reading just a confrentation that was actually quite positive. 3/4 of the Sex Pistols were huge Who fans.
i think what happened is that Johnny Rotten wasn't too much of a fan of The Who and took a swing at Townshend (i think) while meeting him because he had never heard of The Sex Pistols. |
/at least 50% sarcastic
Born in Paris? What were his parents?
You missed the edit. |
You missed the edit.
