Black Water Park or Still Life.

I'm in the need of some, I guess, screamo type stuff.

I'm listening to From First To Last, and I like it. Its relieving some stress. Are there any more bands like this, that are any good?

Iron Bars 12-14-2005 04:54 AM

I don't know that band but when I think Screamo I think Circle takes the square. If you don't have it you should try that.

Alexisonfire, definitely. Their self titled cd is more screaming. Their other one: Watch Out! is more singing, but still screaming. It's probably a good first choice. Depends if you like singing or screaming.

Get some Finch if you haven't already, and Sparta. Porcelain is a good CD.

I'm looking to get into black metal, 'cept I'm not big on shoddy production. I've got the "Bergtatt" album by Ulver, as well as "Empiricism" by Borknagar, but where should I go next? I'm fair open minded, but I'd prefer if the production didn't TOTALLY blow (which I hear is rare for BM...). Thanks in advance.

Both of those albums have black metal influence, but they are by far not black metal.

And if you don't want to hear bad production, stay away from black metal as that is a huge part of way black metal sounds.

Dang..well is there any BM you guys would recommend that will help me get into it then? I've read Dissection, Satyricon and Dimmu Borgir are fairly good to get people into the genre. Any help is appreciated, I really don't care if it's tr00 or not, I just want some good shiz.

Go listen to the album Darkthrone - Transilvanian Hunger, and if you can stand that production, you should be able to listen to most black metal.

If you go around asking for black metal with stupid slang, you don't deserve to listen to the commerical "black metal".

Little late, but I'll get my thoughts in here.

I find nothing special at all about Hammerfall and probably hold the crown for me of 'Most Mediocre Power Metal Band.'

Just my two cents.

Can some one recommend me some technical/progressive metal. Im not talking about the popular bands like Opeth, DT, Symphony X and Spiral Architect. I want to know about some relatively unknown bands.

Before I start, this is not directed at you, but at people getting into black metal in general.

I can't stand when people come into the genre saying how terrible the production is. The production is not top quality recording studio state of the art, etc, but it is the best production for the music. If a majority of BM had crystal clear production, it would be terrible. Half of what makes black metal great is the atmosphere, and a lot of the atmosphere is obtained through the production qualities.

Take for example Burzum - Filosofem. This album has tons of fuzz, yet I would consider it to be one of the most perfectly produced black metal albums. Perfect production doesn't always mean crystal clear, but what is perfect for the music.

So saying that the production for most black metal "blows" is very very wrong. If you don't like the production, stay away from the music. It's not as though you have to listen to it.

If you really want to get into Black Metal, then you should visit the Black Metal Thread and check out the albums mentioned in the first post. Don't try to get yourself into the genre with a bunch of psuedo-black, half-black bands, listen to the real thing.

I'd recommend starting with Burzum - Filosofem / Hvis Lyset Tar Oss and Darkthrone - Transylvanian Hunger / A Blaze In The Northern Sky.
