That was after Live 8. They didn't take it obviously.

MattSharpIsCool 12-16-2006 12:12 AM

I would give my left nut to see them live.

Riva 12-16-2006 12:25 AM

The Fletcher Memorial Home has always reminded me of the middle part of The Wall.

Montana 12-16-2006 04:16 PM

I would probably give up a body part to see all of Floyd play together live.

AMLOR is a decent album, in my opinion. On the Turning Away, One Slip and of course, Learning To Fly are all great songs. The guitar in On the Turning Away is beautiful.

AMLOR has some amazing music. Post-Waters era is defiantly challenged in the lyric department, but I think some of it is more well written than Waters era.. Gilmour wrote some good music. The guitar work on Post-Waters **** is breathtaking.

Jim 12-17-2006 01:35 AM

The Division Bell especially. David has said in interviews how he hated how many solos he did for the album. They're all stunning though!!!
The Fletcher Memorial Home has always reminded me of the middle part of The Wall.
I see what you mean. I could see it slotting in just after Hey You. That section is the most emotional IMO. Nobody's Home is my favourite ballad by them :)

Riva 12-17-2006 02:21 AM

Oh yes, I love Roger's voice when he says "There's still nobody home".

Post-Waters the band did some really great music, it's just that neither Rick nor Dave were ever really all that good at lyrics. Heh. And Nick never wrote any at all, did he?

Collis 12-17-2006 08:36 AM

Bless his little cotton socks eh?

Yeah Waters was seriously godlike when it came to lyrics, Time is the pinnacle of it for me ...

Danger Bird 12-17-2006 08:56 AM

Haha, I feel excluded with all you guys talking about late Floyd, because I hated Animals and didn't listen to anything they made after that.
Time is the pinnacle of it for me ...
Without any doubt that is lyrically my favourite song ever.
"You run and you run to catch up with the sun, but it's sinking, and racing around, to come up behind you again"
Best lyric in the world, evar.

:amaze:

on another note, Time is my favorite song of theirs, the solo is wonderful.

randomthought9 12-17-2006 12:31 PM

Yeah, Time is one of my favorite songs by any band, it's so good.

rippa32 12-17-2006 06:33 PM

I used to think so but lately my favourite off that album would be Us And Them/Any Colour You Like.

CaptainWaits 12-17-2006 07:07 PM

After buying Animals a couple of days ago, it has become an instant favorite of mine. Still doesn't beat WYWH in my opinion, but I'd probably second it to that.

rippa32 12-17-2006 09:23 PM

It's always funny to see people decide if they prefer WYWH or Animals. They are both great albums though, however I prefer Animals.

BludgeonySteve 12-17-2006 09:31 PM

It's difficult to pick a favorite track from Dark Side because I usually just listen to it all at once without considering what track i'm listening to.
It's always funny to see people decide if they prefer WYWH or Animals. They are both great albums though, however I prefer Animals.
Animals for me because I just got a new Animals shirt. That puts my Animals shirts to 2 and my WYWH shirts still at 0. Although i'd like a WYWH shirt.

rippa32 12-17-2006 11:44 PM

You have two animal shirts? I don't even have one Pink Floyd shirt. All the ones on ebay are cheap asian ones. Where do you get yours?

magicbus 12-17-2006 11:46 PM

I saw a couple Floyd vinyls at a vintage clothing store today, including a pretty good looking copy of Animals. I didn't buy any though, I didn't want to walk around downtown with a bunch of vinyls.

I'm gonna go back and get Animals though.

rippa32 12-18-2006 02:42 AM

What's wrong with walking around with vinyl? If it's awkward to carry just use a bag.

Riva 12-18-2006 03:41 AM

He probably didn't have a bag.

I just got Wet Dream on vinyl. :D So happy.

rippa32 12-18-2006 04:06 AM

The shop I go to always gives me a plastic shopping bag to carry mine in.

Oh and I have no idea what Wet Dream is.

Rick Wright's first solo-album. I should buy that one on vinyl as well, seems that it's not that rare, I've already come across it on a few occasions.

And walking around with vinyl is cool, I only use bags to hold them together and to cover them if it's raining. My new bagpack is big enough to fit some 10 to 14 LP's though, so that's handy.

magicbus 12-18-2006 07:15 AM

Yea no bags :/

What about
"Strangers passing in the street/By chance to seperate glances meet/And I am you and what I see is me"

Lunch 12-18-2006 12:30 PM

"The sun is the same in the relative way but you're older, shorter of breath, and one day closer to death."

Ownage.

One of my favourite lines from DSOTM, hands down.

My favourite song, lyrically, is Nobody's Home though.

I've always been a fan of Nobody Home myself.

Leper 12-18-2006 06:32 PM

I think I'm gonna have to go with Brain Damage as my favourite song on DSOTM;

And if the cloud bursts, thunder in your ear
you shout and no one seems to hear
and if the band you're in starts playing different tunes
I'll see you on the dark side of the moon

To me those lyrics alone give the album such a strong ending. And then Eclipse is like a fantastic encore.

AnyColour74 12-18-2006 06:45 PM
Wish You Were Here > all Floyd lyrics.
Nobody Home pwns WYWH's lyrics

rockinbass17 12-18-2006 06:53 PM

I adore all of the Brain Damage/Eclipse lyrics. The line that hits me the most, always has given me chills, is:

You raise the blade, you make the change,
you re-arrange me 'till I'm sane.

standard 12-18-2006 06:54 PM

Personally I really like The Final Cut (the whole album) over all other lyrics.. It really touches me and I don't know why.

Surf 12-18-2006 06:59 PM
Nobody Home pwns WYWH's lyrics
The imagery in WYWH is much stronger as is the general conceit and expression, and whilst nobdy home is a great song, it seems to get slightly repepitive. Still a great song though. But WYWH stands much better on its own whereas Nobody Home is a brilliant album track;it works better because it plays on the character arc already covered in the album, whereas WYWH gives the full impression in one go.

Riva 12-18-2006 07:25 PM

Yeah, Not Now John is so fantastic, lyrically.

"There's too many homefires burning and not enough trees"

Yield 12-18-2006 08:06 PM
My mommy bought it for me :D
I have the pink floyd shirt that just says pink floyd and then it has a felt pig. It's pretty cool, even though the pig is falling apart.

My mommy bought it for me :D

edit: Not Now John and Fletcher Memorial Home are my favorites from final cut.

Danger Bird 12-18-2006 08:29 PM

Yeah the end of DSotM is great lyrically.

Everything under the sun is in tune/But the sun is eclipsed by the moon

rippa32 12-18-2006 09:36 PM

Echoes doesn't have my favourite lyrics but for some reaosn they really stand out to me. Could be the awesome melody.

Lunch 12-18-2006 09:38 PM

My other favorites from DSotM (or in general) are:

"Up...
and down....
and in the end, it's only round and round."

MattSharpIsCool 12-18-2006 11:00 PM

I was in Hot Topic the other day (if anyone says a word I will cut) looking for band shirts. They had 4 or 5 different Pink Floyd shirts, but I dont have enough money right now. They had an Animals one, with the pig and the smokestacks, and another shirt just had the band standing together (syd was in it). There were a couple more I can't remember. But I think I might get the Dark Side Of The Moon 1973 World Tour shirt.

Oh, and Animals >>> WYWH
