BEn, when did you get your SR?
March of this year. I ordered last October, though.

Spaceman Spiff 10-17-2005 01:27 PM

I got mine at the beginning of March... I think.

BenJammin 10-17-2005 01:28 PM
I got mine at the beginning of March... I think.
Clever. Is yours way totally darker color than what's on the website?

Spaceman Spiff 10-17-2005 01:30 PM

It's the same as the one on the site.

BenJammin 10-17-2005 01:31 PM
It's the same as the one on the site.
Hmm. It appears my Ibanez is an oddball.

Spaceman Spiff 10-17-2005 01:36 PM

I've come to realize one of the most useless statements that is always made about bassists as justification to like them or make them sound good.

"His playing fits the music."

Am I the only one that has a problem with this? For the most part, EVERY bass player plays stuff that fits the music. Whether it's root noting by Mark Hoppus, or Wooten going slap-crazy on a Flecktones song, IT FITS THE MUSIC!

Ugh... I just think it's an entirely useless statement that proves absolutely nothing.

BenJammin 10-17-2005 01:37 PM

Haha. True enough.

fatbandit 10-17-2005 01:38 PM

I think 'he does his job' is a far better statement...

YES thats what i always say. Anyone can make a bassline that fits, the whole point is whether it is the best line that could fit. It gives me serious rage

Six Foot Revolver 10-17-2005 01:39 PM

You guys have got a new casual everytime I come in here :(.

Spaceman Spiff 10-17-2005 01:39 PM

It had to be said. People need to start realizing what an empty and pointless statement that is. Seriously.

SixnStones 10-17-2005 01:39 PM
I think 'he does his job' is a far better statement...

:smash:
isn't that like exactly the same thing?

Banned 10-17-2005 01:40 PM

Hey all...

I think 'he does his job' is a far better statement...

:smash:
Ehh, I think that's still the same thing.

Does Hoppus not do his job?
Does Flea not do his job?
Does Justin Chancellor not do his job?
Does Wooten not do his job?

I think statements like that prove nothing about the player except that you're trying to justify liking them or something with an empty statement.

fatbandit 10-17-2005 01:42 PM

Yes, why yes it is. You get the shiny 'captain obvious' badge for today :)

However, I'm the kind of bassist that 'does his job'...

:upset:

:smash:

BenJammin 10-17-2005 01:43 PM

I don't do my job.

lemoley 10-17-2005 01:43 PM

hello all

Spaceman Spiff 10-17-2005 01:44 PM

I'm not saying it's wrong to like Hoppus or something, I just think that statements like those mean nothing and prove nothing about the person you're talking about.

So.... you're like almost every other bassist out there. Congratulations for doing your job.
It doesn't say anything about whether or not your playing is good, though.

the101er 10-17-2005 01:48 PM

Oh guys, I have major GAS for one of those Washburn basses :upset:

fatbandit 10-17-2005 01:48 PM

I think 'he does his job, but doesn't go above and beyond the call of duty' would be a more accurate statement. But... It is still a moot point. If you say that, you've just made a completely neutral statement that changes nothing and shows nothing of your actual opinion :/

:smash:

kilian 10-17-2005 01:49 PM
hey kilian
Hey mike!
Everything fine?

fatbandit 10-17-2005 01:49 PM

I didn't say do my job. I said 'do my job'. There's the difference :)

I consider myself to be quite chuff :/

 You never did tell me what kind of Peavey you have.

Spaceman Spiff 10-17-2005 01:53 PM

By the way, I'm not making any personal attacks on anyone, I just feel that these are overused cliches that mean absolutely nothing, and people need to realize that they mean nothing.

Jim: "So, I saw this band on Saturday. The bassist was cool, he really fit the music!"
Steve: "Oh yeah, what stuff did he do?"
Jim: "Well, you know, he played what he had to. He did his job, it was really cool."

See! It means nothing!

Jody LeCompte 10-17-2005 01:53 PM

How many bassist dont fit the music though?

</a pointless attack on matt freeman>

kilian 10-17-2005 01:55 PM
 You never did tell me what kind of Peavey you have.
I want a Peavey Mark IV head :upset:

lemoley 10-17-2005 01:55 PM

hey dave

and im good kilian thanks, yourself? :)

BenJammin 10-17-2005 01:55 PM

Man, Spiff. You're really riled up about this.

fatbandit 10-17-2005 01:55 PM

Its not that I don't fit.

Its just that I suck.

:smash:

the101er 10-17-2005 01:56 PM

I just realize how many times I've seen these statements, and that they are pointless, meaningless, and empty, and the mean nothing at all. They prove nothing about the talent of the bassist.

I know. It's still funny, though (you, that is).

DaveSavesTheDay 10-17-2005 02:01 PM

Haha, fair enough. That'll be my bass in a year, too.
