I love all of the ones I have heard.
|
I agree with the last 3 posts.
|
Supernatural Birth Machine is my favorite Cathedral album atm.
NP: Esoteric - Grey day |
To be honest I'm happy just listening to Hopkins over and over.
|
What's that?
|
Cathedral song, "Hopkins (The Witchfinder General)". It's just a whole lot of fun.
|
I only have Garden Of Uneartley Delights but I think it's a great album. North Berwick Witch Trials and Oro The Manslayer are awesome songs.
|
Going to see Isis on monday! can't wait, really really REALLY can't wait
love Isis so much, hope they play lots of Oceanic + Panopticon and not all Absence anyone else seeing them ? |
Cathedral song, "Hopkins (The Witchfinder General)". It's just a whole lot of fun.
yes it's also good because in the video it has clips from the vincent price movie of the same name |
Yeah, the film/Vincent Price are always great, and Lee Dorrian dances around like a tit.
|
Haha yeah, he really does
and yeah, I love most Vincent Price movies. Most because I haven't seen them all. In fact I probably haven't seen many considering the amount of films he has been in |
No way. The Ethereal Mirror and The Carnival Bizarre are better than FOE.
You've got to be joking! The Carnival Bizarre is still a very good album though, just not up to the same standard as Forest of Equilibrium. |
To be honest I'm happy just listening to Hopkins over and over.
I love that song. My band covered it in hilarious fashion on our last album.  I love Lee Dorrian, and sharing first names is cool too! :p |
I think there's something quite unique about his voice. If I heard it in a song I had never heard before I could pick it up straight away I reckon.
|
I'm trying to educate myself about this genre so any help would be appreciated. Has anyone heard the new Poison The Well? Because it has this vibe/mood to it that makes me think of Doom Metal. I know they aren't a doom metal band, but it sounds like they may be influenced by the genre. Any thoughts?
|
From what I remember Poison The Well is more hardcore/emo stuff.
The fact that it has a somber sound doesn't persay make it doom metal or doom metal related. Also I've never heard any reference to metal in PTW's music. If you want to be educated on some doom metal check out Candlemass and the Cathedral recommendations above. If you want some sub-sub genre recommendations let me know. Lots of good doom/death, depressive black, drone, funeral, stoner and sludge to check out too. |
"Somber", That's a good word for it, thanks for your help!
|
No problem man. :)
np: October Tide - Infinite Submission (great doom/death sideproject of Renske of Katatonia, too bad they quit. :() |
12 Days Of Rain is Katatonia worthy stuff.
|
Dance Of December Souls is becoming my favorite Katatonia album, simply amazing.
|
It's been my favorite since the first time I heard it. It has the most amazing atmosphere of any release of any genre of any time.
I really dislike Brave Murder Day though, Mikael's 'cleaner' growls totally take away from the atmosphere. Renske's tortured screams are a huge part of what makes December Souls so mystic. |
I don't share the same point of view with the Miakel "cleaner" growls since I love that album, and I think it's perfect with Mikael and blah blah blah. Still, DODS is great..probably my favorite Katatonia album but I prefer the new era as a whole.
|
I like listening to Tomb of Insomnia when I walk around in the woods.
|
Mikael's growl is just too by the books. Yeah, it is very good, but there's nothing different about it. Renske has a very unique voice, and it just fits perfectly with the music.
|
Velvet Thorns (Of Drynwhyl) has to be the best thing Katatonia has ever done man \m/
I'm goign to listen to that album after this !T.O.O.H.! album finishes kicking my ***. |
Gateways To Bereavement, In Silence Enshrined, and Without God are my favorite. Elohim Meth is very good too, for an interlude.
|
Without God is very good too. I want a Katatonia shirt with the old logo :(
|
Without God is definitely Renske's best vocal performance, and the perfect example of how much better his voice fits into the old Katatonia atmosphere than Mikael's deep and clean growls.
|
Aah, katatonia, great great band.
Both eras are great although I really don't like Discouraged Ones. All the songs sound the same on that album. Ok people, where is the love for some funeral doom? Quite a lot of people in here seemed to enjoy it a few months back, now it seem the love has died. :( I uploaded Bloody Panda's full length for the DU, that's somegreat fd/sludge/avant-garde/whatever. np: Nadja - Clinodactyl All hail Nadja. |
I love funeral doom, but too much of it sounds the same, so I've all but completely halted further delving into it. I enjoy Thergothon and Evoken on a regular basis still though.
|
I dont know what happened to me, I got in this FD binge some time ago. I still listen to Tyranny and CV like every week, but not as often as i used to. I'll check the BP though.

Both are nice bands.
I dont know what happened to me, I got in this FD binge some time ago. I still listen to Tyranny and CV like every week, but not as often as i used to. I'll check the BP though.
BP is really weird, they have a female vocalist, but for once it's not that annoying. :p And it's just ugly and huge music. I'm kind of curious about the new Fallen too, it'ssupposed to have a female vocalist too, but I prefer the low bassy voice on the debut by a longshot. |
I love BP but the album you uploaded for the DU petey is in Megashit and that doesn't work for me. Thanks anyway :)
|
Bloody Panda are great. I had my first Moss and Nadja encounter this week. Moss I like, Nadja not so much but I have Body Cage ready to listen too (for the first time) so I might change my mind.
Not doom related: after seeing Txus avatar I'm going to listen to some Vintersorg first. |

Moss/Nadja split that was uploaded in the DU.
|
Then your thoughts should pobably change after hearing The Bodycage.
The production on the newer albums is just that much better and does way more justice to the music. I think my favorite album is Thaumogenesis though. One song, over an hour long, but so good and addictive. That song really carries me away and when the CD stops, I want more. :p np: Nadja - Sandskin  |
Moss \m/
|
Thaumogenesis is definitely Nadja's densest work.
The ending of Forgotten Tomb's Steal My Corpse might be one of the greatest moments in doom metal. Any Forest Of Shadows fans? I just listened to Where Dreams Turn To Dust for the first time, and it's some exceptional stuff. Much better than the middle of the road doom I'm used to hearing. |
i just listen to 'Sleep Mirrored' by Shape of Despair!
this is one of the moments in life, where you're so happy that bands like SoD exist... this song is so... perfect for this moment right now.... i could even cry... |
