pixiesfanyo 09-29-2006 11:38 AM

beh. locals

Nightvision 09-29-2006 11:53 AM

Hmmmm, but I'm a Brit... surely it can't be that much of a yankee term?

Besides, that negates the real reason for my name change, which is so I can pretend to be part of the elite club that know each others' real names. :p

coheneran 09-29-2006 01:28 PM

Britain rules, nobody can take that away from us.

Except German punk bands.

You listen to good music.

Hi S&L by the way, :) Im Ish. Timmy (drumass04's) friend.

TojesDolan 09-29-2006 02:37 PM

Hi timmy's friend.

slack 09-29-2006 02:42 PM

I think "touching from a distance, further all the time" is my new favorite lyric.

Hi Ishy.

Surf 09-30-2006 05:04 AM

how do you think it feels/to always make love by proxy

is a current favourite of mine. not sure why.

and yeah, hey ishy

also, what's up with the s&l rules thing?

Ishy_ 09-30-2006 05:54 AM

Mine would be:

'A slowly constructed crowquilled confession of my spirit to all of you,
black waterproof ink scars the board, so hot-pressed, pristine and pure.'

Nightvision 09-30-2006 06:22 AM

Hey Ish, welcome to S&L. :)

And Surf, that's just Josh - he's been a moderator in here since before I joined, and I think that's about his fourth post in here in that time.

He seems like a nice guy, but why he's still a mod is a mystery to me. :-/

Surf 09-30-2006 11:06 AM

thanks, nice to know there is a mod around, in whatever capacity.

liked your new piece by the way, good stuff.

pixiesfanyo 09-30-2006 12:29 PM

all i have is my love of love, and love is not loving.

joshmay 09-30-2006 12:51 PM

actually i would be down with doing some more moderating in here...i would love to have like workshop threads and all kinds of other stuff, if there was enough of a response. its just that all this critforcrit bullshit and new critique guidelines and everything, it bogs the forum down from much of anything productive. essentially what i've seen in here is alot of different people writing the same "song" and alot of other people saying the same things about the same songs, over and over and over. there are exceptions though, and theyre really the only reason ive had to visit this forum in a while. every now and then like 7 pages back i'll go and find a gem of a piece of writing, something that was really a pleasure to read, and it was worth wading through everything else. this forum needs to refocus and realign.

Surf 09-30-2006 12:59 PM

hello there joshmay
alot of different people writing the same "song"
there is some truth in this, but there are a few good songs around; there's some good ones on the front page

Nightvision 09-30-2006 01:44 PM

Thank you Surf - a lot of what you said was spot on. Remind me to take a look at your last piece if I forget to over the next few days. :)

And hey Josh - I like your way of thinking - it's maybe about time we tried something a little different in here, as we only seem to be getting a small group of regulars. Stick around. :)

Ishy_ 09-30-2006 04:14 PM

Wow - I don't think I've seen a piece that Surf hasn't critted. Heh, good job. :p

Surf 09-30-2006 04:20 PM

i'll crit anything with a pulse (or in some cases without).

and i'm bored.

pixiesfanyo 10-01-2006 01:50 PM

we need to get a new mod in here.

-_-

Nightvision 10-01-2006 02:00 PM

Agreed. Someone spread malicious rumours about Burt so his girl leaves him.

Surf 10-01-2006 02:13 PM

or we need to offer things that she can't...........

Nightvision 10-01-2006 02:26 PM

What, like anal?

You first. :p

Surf 10-01-2006 02:28 PM

or like a fruitbasket or something. or a male bonding (non-sexual) experience.

but um...er...maybe let someone else go first...

TojesDolan 10-02-2006 08:28 AM

Nah NEW MODERATOR I SAID.

Go to that thread in the site forum and rant about we needing more people moderating to make this place a lot more active.

I can offer you pretty cookies and the opportunity to win an e-car!

^______^

Plus I have a cute labrador that barks and stuff.

On a related note, if joshmay is willing to make the workshops and shi, I'm willing to participate.

Surf 10-02-2006 10:37 AM

he's not weird enough to deserve his title

slack 10-02-2006 11:43 AM

I have a Doberman. Great dog and all, but sometimes he walks me. :p

Surf 10-02-2006 01:08 PM

my dog is too lazy. not fat, just really lazy. couple that with the fact that the cat is too old to move, and i really don't have to look after my pets much

Minus The Flair 10-02-2006 01:12 PM

>Worst pet owner right here< My cat has no fur left, and it's not one of those cats. My dogs walk about 1 mile every week, one of them has a broken leg, and I havn't seen my other cat for like 3 days.

i posted this in another thread, but more people need to see it/comment

Carol Ann Duffy - Lizzie, Six

What are you doing?
I'm watching the moon.
I'll give you the moon
when I get up there.

Where are you going?
To play in the fields.
I'll give you fields,
bend over that chair.

What are you thinking?
I'm thinking of love.
I'll give you love
when I've climbed this stair.

Where are you hiding?
Deep in the wood.
I'll give you the wood
when your bottom's bare.

Why are you crying?
I'm afraid of the dark.
I'll give you the dark
and I do not care.

Minus The Flair 10-02-2006 01:56 PM

I've seen this before, I like CAD. It's pretty dark, but I love the simple childlike language in it, yet it has a serious, underlying dark theme. I don't like the obviousness of it though, 'bend over that chair' doesn't leave much to the imagination. But this did provoke me when I read it, which is what writing is meant to do

Surf 10-02-2006 01:59 PM

first time i read it, i had to go back again and again. freaked me out. i just love the way that for three lines of every stanza it could be a love poem, but its about childabuse. nice.

slack 10-02-2006 02:14 PM

Yeah, it kind of reminds me of Red Roses by Anne Sexton.
Red Roses

Tommy is three and when he's bad
his mother dances with him.
She puts on the record,
"Red Roses for a Blue Lady"
and throws him across the room.
Mind you,
she never laid a hand on him.
He gets red roses in different places,
the head, that time he was as sleepy as a river,
the back, that time he was a broken scarecrow,
the arm like a diamond had bitten it,
the leg, twisted like a licorice stick,
all the dance they did together,
Blue Lady and Tommy.
You fell, she said, just remember you fell.
I fell, is all he told the doctors
in the big hospital. A nice lady came
and asked him questions but because
he didn't want to be sent away he said, I fell.
He never said anything else although he could talk fine.
He never told about the music
or how she'd sing and shout
holding him up and throwing him.

He pretends he is her ball.
He tries to fold up and bounce
but he squashes like fruit.
For he loves Blue Lady and the spots
of red roses he gives her
Nightvision 10-02-2006 02:40 PM

Hmmm, I really don't read any poetry at all. It's shocking really, as I know it would help my songwriting etc, but it just doesn't interest me. :-/

Don't get me wrong, I can appreciate a good piece of writing and so on, but I just don't enjoy sitting and reading poetry.

EDIT: and on the subject of today's other topic, I have an old cat. The baby think's it's the best thing ever. The cat's not so impressed.
