if anyone could email/yousendit me the video clip of the comfortably numb solo on top of the wall, that'd be awesome.

pigonthewing82 03-21-2005 04:23 PM
From which song?
Jugband Blues, a nice way for Syd to go out. Its lyrics are really haunting. Its almost like if all the people who overdosed on drugs coming back to write one song about it.

oh, cool.
What exactly is a dream?

I don't know why but for some reason that line had a huge impact on me, and still does when it comes up.
That line is phenominal. Its on my aim profile now...i would put it on my usertitle, but i think somebody else already does.

My favorite lines...

"With, without, who denied its what the fightings all about"

"Were have you been, its alright, we told you were youve been/What did you dream, we told you what to dream"

"Were just, two lost souls swimming in a fish bowl year after year"

Probably all of Time

and a few random ones i always notice when playing their 60's/'79+ era music. Waters is such a great songwriter its rediculous

I think I might be the person your thinking of. I had it for the longest time till about a week ago.

I also have a Floyd Quote in my aim profile (as I always do) "Alone in the clouds all blue, Lying on an eiderdown, Yippie you can't see me, but I can you

Its from their song Flamming.

lunch998 03-21-2005 04:31 PM

"All you touch and all you see is all your life will ever be."

Distant Echoes 03-21-2005 04:35 PM

You probably were pigonthewing...

And since a week ago, i changed my avator for the first time from anything related to a prism. Im not likin it either...im gonna find a new one now.

Its hard to find a bad floyd quote :p

Oh boy... Gilmour has made plenty of 'em.

lunch998 03-21-2005 04:38 PM

Face it, "Who was told what to do by the man" is kind of lame.

IAJP 03-21-2005 04:42 PM

Favourite line:
"Home, home again, I like to be here when I can, When I come home cold and tired, It's good to warm my bones beside the fire, far away across the field, the tolling of the iron bell, brings the faithful to their knees, to hear their softly spoken magic spell"

You can read so deeply into this it's ridiculous.
This isn't my favoruite Pink Floyd song either, that'd be "Great Gig In The Sky".
If a more perfect piece of music has ever been made, please tell me, and I'm not joking, this is about as close to musical nirvana as is possible in my opinion.
Face it, "Who was told what to do by the man" is kind of lame.
Yeah one of the few Roger lines that I get the impression he was just looking for a space to fill.

Distant Echoes 03-21-2005 04:45 PM
Oh boy... Gilmour has made plenty of 'em.
eh...lets not get into the post waters era though. I think Gilmour tried a little too hard to match Waters. Even in High Hopes, i think the use of symbolism is weak, dispise the fact theirs so much of it.

Have Roger or Gilmour realased a live solo cd with that name? It seems like such a good name for a live cd.

My cousins has, defenetly get it he said "it was wicked ( )sick"

Distant Echoes 03-21-2005 04:55 PM

I was going to buy that book or another one...never got around to it.

Im no big fan of reading

slowhand 03-21-2005 06:18 PM

Man, I've been reading a lot about Syd lately, and every time I read something more, I get more interested in him... It's weird. It's ironic how he got more and more popular because he was doing nothing.

Sorry, that was random.

And yea, on MSN I have the lyric "shine on you crazy diamond" and that's because I'm using a Syd pic.

DeusExMachina 03-21-2005 07:18 PM

Is that always streaming?
Yes sir. Wonderful site.

/very late.

DeusExMachina 03-21-2005 07:21 PM

Dark Side of the Moon is the best album lyrically, personally. Although SOYCD has amazing lyrics.

They're catchy, but I prefer animals' more thought provoking lyrics or the wall's more introspective lyrics personally.

Distant Echoes 03-21-2005 07:25 PM

Its close for me between dsotm and wywh.

wywh's lyrics are more noticable lyrics for me because of personal reasons, but dsotm i can see from any persons view and be just as good
Dark Side of the Moon is the best album lyrically, personally. Although SOYCD has amazing lyrics.
Dark Side of the Moon is great, but I find myself identifying more with the lyrics to the Wall. As sombody who is constently fustrated with school, government, and the things people use to fill the empty spaces, I find when I listen to the Wall I feel like Roger is talked directly to me. Its almost like he knows me and is putting them in words that make the hard parts of life not seem so difficult. Like I've said before its kind of funny how all of lifes little problems and complex parts seem just so simple when everything rhymes and has a melody.

Distant Echoes 03-21-2005 07:50 PM

The wall is good lyrically...and is great for being a rock opera, but i dont think its near one of floyds best albums. It just seems more of a bunch of songs about a theme, rather then their concept albums, which sort of mold together (both lyrically and song-wise), and i just cant imagine 70s floyd releasing an album with a bunch of songs thrown on it.

But it is a piece of art though...maybe my 4th or 5th favorite floyd album

First off nice new avatar, isn't that at the begining of Live at Pompii? Oh yea and the Wall has a HUGE drop off for instrumentals. Its my favorite lyrics wise though. My favorite instrumentally would have to be Meddle. My favorite creativly would have to be Piper at the Gates of Dawn, and my overall favorite would have to be Animals.

Yea I could never decide my favorite so I had to create a bunch of differnt sub catagorys for it.

DeusExMachina 03-21-2005 07:55 PM

The Wall is probably my third or fourth favorite Pink Floyd album. WYWH is my favorite, but I'd have to say that overall, DSOTM is the best album of all time, when you factor in every aspect of what makes something "great." But that's just my opinion.

pigonthewing82 03-21-2005 07:59 PM

You know I was just listening to Dark Side of the Moon, and you know I was thinking and there is a line from there that ties with my favorite Floyd line.

"I don't know I was really drunk at the time"

DeusExMachina 03-21-2005 08:02 PM

Heh. That was said by the guitarist for Wings.

magicbus 03-21-2005 08:03 PM

Listening to AHM, very, very cool so far. Lyrically, I'd agree with Deus on DSOTM or SOYCD for my favorites. Although The Wall does have its good moments (Waiting For The Worms, In The Flesh, The Trial. Ok, The Wall rules too)

My favorite instrumental album is probably Ummagumma.

DeusExMachina 03-21-2005 08:07 PM

I still don't have Ummagumma... I need to get on that.

Distant Echoes 03-21-2005 08:07 PM

My favorite instrumentally will have to be WYWH.

Sorry about the avator change pigonthewing...it was short-lived, i know.

Im planning on getting Umagumma next...but honestly have never seen it in a store in my life. I dont even know what the album cover looks like (or i may not have known it was if i saw it). Still, i really want to get that before atom heart mother or the final cut

DeusExMachina 03-21-2005 08:10 PM

The Final Cut is overrated. Seriously. I would recommend getting any other Floyd album before The Final Cut. Lyrically, its great. But musically, its VERY substandard.

magicbus 03-21-2005 08:10 PM
I still don't have Ummagumma... I need to get on that.

Its one of my favorite albums. There's something amazing about it, just the way it was recorded and how they played it is awesome. I'm talking about the live disc. The studio album is cool too, pretty sweet songs on there.

You guys should get it, Echoes too.

Purple Floyd 03-21-2005 08:11 PM

I like the Hero Returns, though the rest of the album is lacking.

I think so too. It feels like you're listening to them in a 60's club in London. Which IMO is better than seeing them in an arena or something.

Does anybody want to have a PF chat on AIM?
The Final Cut is overrated. Seriously. I would recommend getting any other Floyd album before The Final Cut. Lyrically, its great. But musically, its VERY substandard.
I don't think its overrated I think its status is just fine. I've never heard a single person say a good comment about it with out a bad comment about the instrumentals. I'm not saying that they are good, because they arn't. But yeah I would't get it unless you like Roger's solo career, or just want to finish your collection. But don't expect anything good, even the lyrics arn't as good by Waters standereds.

As for AIM chats I'm always up for one, my screen name is the same as my username here :thumb:

Man, I just realised Empty Spaces to Young Lust is one of the best transitions on The Wall.
