i'm not quite sure what you are getting at, sort of garage/psych rock with vintage sounding production?
http://www.last.fm/music/Tame+Impala/+similar try these
Yeah, your definition is basically what I'm seeking. "Retro" sounding rock with a hint of psych (or more than a hint) there. Though I'm a bit interested in the hazy old-school sounding metal thing too, you know with fuzzy distorted guitars and... you know, the Kyuss sounding production values. I don't know if it's doom something but anyways, hope you understand... And yeah, thanks for the last.fm link though I had tried it before and it seems to take the similarity more because the bands are Australian and/or relatively unknown, not too much for the genre (I listened to some of them). : P I'm still seeking recommendations so if anyone knows, please, tell me :D |

Skycamefalling - 10.21 7 Angels 7 Plagues - Jhazmyne's Lullaby Cursed - Cursed III and I'm sure you've heard of Converge... |
Hey, in about a week I’m going on a 20 hour plane ride. I haven’t listened to that much metal in the past couple of years but I thought I could revisit my old metalhead days. Some of my favorite bands are:
Metal-core: Darkest Hour Botch Skycamefalling Architect Melodic death metal: Disarmonia Mundi Gorod Gojira In Mourning Insomnium Intestine Baalism I’d prefer some good melodic death metal recommendations - but metal-core would be good too. I’ve been looking at some Japanese melodic death metal bands on youtube and I’m pretty interested so if anyone knows of any Japanese melodic death metal bands (besides Intestine Baalism - which is a GREAT band BTW - if you haven’t heard of them, check em out) let me know. It’s been a couple of years since I’ve downloaded full albums. Is googleblogsearch still the best method? EDIT: I also found a great Korean speed metal band named Ares. If anyone could recommend anything like that, that’s be great too. I’m just interested in listening to some metal from areas other than Europe. I’ve listened to so much European metal…a change would be nice. |
melodic death:
Anata - The Infernal Depths Of Hatred / The Conductor's Departure / Under a Stone With No Inscription Arghoslent - Hornets of the Pogrom The Chasm - Conjuration of the Spectral Empire / Procession to the Infraworld / Farseeing The Paranormal Abysm (i think around half of this is instrumental so if that doesn't sound appealing maybe check out Conjuration) Eucharist - Mirrorworlds / A Velvet Creation Autumn Leaves - As night conquers day Garden of Shadows - Oracle Moon Arsis - A Diamond For Disease bolded the ones i think are more of what you're looking for, or easier to get into. and yes blogsearch is still the best method you may also like Hopesfall - No Wings to Speak Of if you haven't listened to it yet, its like post-hardcore/melodic metalcore idk |

I am loving Mirrorthrone's Carrier of Dust album right now. Any suggestions on some other great albums like this?
A great suggestion for those who love thrash- Sybaritic's Being Human album. I can never get enough of it |
Okay, let's try something else since the Tame Impala -esque band search didn't yield too much results.
So, retro-sounding, doom-inspired (?) rock/metal? The Sword's new album sounds pretty cool (their singer though is kinda mediocre). Well, it is maybe a little more straight-forward than what I'm seeking - it's not so "doom", if you get what I mean. Not that that is a problem; I want some progression in the songs too. :) Not maybe you know those doom metal bands that let a drop-d-chord linger for 20 minutes, but more like those whose sound is kinda fuzzy/distorted and who have good songs too... I'm not seeking drone, after all... yeah, well, I hope you get what I mean. :D (I'm always so good at these explanations) E: OKAY SO let's put some terms which I found (I don't know whether they're good), which could possibly demonstrate these bands which I seek: retro metal, heritage metal, stoner rock, stoner metal, desert rock ?? :O |
maybe Clutch - Blast Tyrant?

I can never get enough of it
haven't heard Mirrorthrone but it is symphonic avant-garde sort of BM try these Kadenzza - The Second Renaissance Nokturnal Mortum - Goat Horns Arcturus - The Sham Mirrors Hellveto - Zmierzch |
An Introduction Page?
I cant find one?
:chug: |
yeah we don't have one, could make a nice sticky though
welcome to the forums. this is not the thread for it though |
Does anyone know anything like Dillinger Escape Plan, but instrumental? In many metal bands the heaviness it not a problem, but the "singing" ruins it for me. Though for some reason, Mastodon works for me. Their more aggressive parts are not so hard to bear, don't know why. And DEP:s Chinese Whispers didn't sound too bad, at least in the "clean parts". So yeah, something like that.
