I've never one to criticize or question someone for getting an ERB with that many strings, but is it totally necessary for what you do, Ben?
I guess with the looper you'll be able to come up with stuff and have that huge range...
Go big or go home, right? But, seriously, I honestly believe I could take advantage of that range. Any with the prices that Jared offers, if I end up not liking it or it not being suitable, I'm not out several thousand dollars. |
Ben's just a loser Baudin wannabe.
I wanna be Baudin so badly, I don't even tap. :amaze: |
I wanna be Baudin so badly, I don't even tap. :amaze:
That's just because you suck at being a wannabe. |
What's your take on this?
ill probably eventually move up to a 9, once the world forgets about bill dickens and his horrid playing. but getting a 9 runs the risk of everyone talking to you about bill dickens. if i were to get a 9 string i would do alot of solo work, but since you do solo work then yeah definitley go for it. |
Ben, you should go ahead and do it so that I can steal it.
|
Base it on this:
I have heard/read that a seven string neck is about the same with as a computer keyboard. With that in mind, just think of how much the width of the neck is going to increase with the addition of one or two more strings.
not much bigger, and i doubt the 7 string thing, they are only 3 and half inches long at the 24th fret (from conklin) and the 5 string neck is usually just as big as the 6 (on most models) |
Yeah, anything making ties between you and Bill Dickens is very very bad.
Especially if someone calls you a Bill Dickens wannabe... |

If people can't see my bass, they'll never be able to tell what I'm playing, anyway. But, yeah. The more I think about it, the more enticing the idea becomes. |
Yeah, anything making ties between you and Bill Dickens is very very bad.
Especially if someone calls you a Bill Dickens wannabe...
That's the point where you smash the person over the head with your bass. I bet 9 strings are heavy. But then you'd get blood on the bass. Hmm, it's a tradeoff. |

Chut up. :upset: |

Eh...yeah. I wasn't entirely sure seeing as I have never actually played a seven string, but a keyboard would be within reasonable limits to see if you would be able to handle it, or so I think from the looks of the necks. 3.5", though, isn't too bad. Also, I finished the Bill Dickens film--by finish, I mean "skipped through his playing"--and that guy makes me want to shoot myself. |

Haha, bingo. That's almost entirely what I'll get. Except from my one elitist-traditionalist guitiar-playing friend, who'll just take a day out of his life to totally berate me for playing such a worthless instrument and tell me that I'll never find any use for it in a band. |
That's when you use the runway to land a jet so you can't hear him.

I see what you are saying, and I am not disagreeing with you in the slightest. I just read that a seven string was about the same width as a keyboard, so I figured that would be a good estimate for him to see if he would be able to handle a nine string. :p I can reach the B on my six string, though. Meh. |
So that decides it. I'm definitely going for a 9 string.
F#-B-E-A-D-G-C-F-Bb Everything is picked out now except for the body shape. Any suggestions? |
Err...nothing <i>too</i> ugly. :p
Singlecut!
Well, I don't want an ugly bass. Singlecuts are nice, but I couldn't come up with my own design. I wouldn't know how to shape it. I suppose I've got, like, 5 months to think about this. |

I would go with a singlecut, but that is just personal prefence because I think they are incredibly sexy with six or more strings. A singlecut that only accomodates four or five strings just looks weird to me. There was one singlecut five string that I liked, though. Boy, was it sexy. mmmmmm. |
Eww.... don't get a singlecut! They're so ugly.
|
Eww.... don't get a singlecut! They're so ugly.
The singlecut said the same thing about you! |
If you go singlecut, you might as well complete the ultimate ugly and throw some buckeye on it.
|
Never! Goddamn. I'd rather take a bullet between the eyes than own a bass with anything buckeyed on it.
|
You have gone too far, mister. :(
Except buckeye is nasty. |
Redwood burl top.
mmmm |
How about some quilted cocobolo?
|
Cocobolo looks sexy when it isn't quilted.
Honestly, though, for those who oppose singlecuts, go look at a Nordstrand Spruce Goose. It is so incredibly nice looking. mmm. I don't like most singlecuts. |
