Stevie_P 10-09-2004 09:49 PM

Rime of the Ancient MAriner is quite the thing isnt it

FrailandBedazzled1979 10-09-2004 09:51 PM

^^^^

there was question on "who wants to be a millionaire" that asked what type of bird sat upon the pharoah's shoulder and i knew it thanks to that song lol. (answer = albatoss).

Spirit_In_Black 10-09-2004 11:29 PM

im pretty sure ive mentioned this somewhere in this thread alredy... but what the hell.

The song Paschendale is criminally underrated, or at least i think it is , i dont know how many of you realise how great it is.
its right up there with hallowed be thy name, powerslave and fear of the dark on my all time favourite maiden songs!

maybe people dont talk about it as much because being off the dance of death album, its fairly new but nevertheless to me it was an instant maiden classic.

the song itself is like an epic journey, and an incredible one at that.
the lyrics are amazing and so is the music (especially the barrage of solos!)
i think all the orchestral noises and at one point the sounbd of an eagle or something like it were great finishing touches and they aid the song a lot.

there are quite a few parts of the song that give me chills up my spine no matter how many times i hear it.

what do you guys think?

FrailandBedazzled1979 10-10-2004 01:04 AM

I think "paschendale" for a newer track has gotten the approval of fans world over and given time will be put in its inevitable high thone next to the classics.

ashman 10-10-2004 08:22 AM

Paschendale is the best song they have done in years...its bloody amazing!!!

ed hunter 10-10-2004 10:14 AM

no i know exactly how great pachendale is. the lryics are amazing.

the songs is hard to remember, possably becayse its so long and it isnt in any way catchy but when you lissen to it properly its blows me away

Shady Ultima 10-10-2004 10:42 AM

Pachendale is great, but IMO the best song on DOD is either title track or Age of Innocence. I love the chorus to Age of Innocence and the title track is great all around.

PoliticallyIncorrectMetalhead 10-10-2004 10:51 AM

Ya DoD, the title song is great. It makes you feel like your actually in the story.

I had to read the story in school. Thank God for maiden. I was the ONLY kid who ever liked the story in the class. My teacher was surprised that I understood it. Take that all you fools who say metal rots the brain!!

Shady Ultima 10-10-2004 10:57 AM

In my english class last year, not only was I the only one to like that story when we were done it, but before the test I brought in powerslave. Sadly.... only one person liked it other than me and this huge screamo kid siting next to me said "Face it Iron Maiden sucks" I could have cried.. Then the teacher turned it off before the bass solo... :upset:

GurS 10-10-2004 10:59 AM

Paschendale is, together with face in the sand and montsegur, the best song on that album. The title track is the worst song on the album. Also, the electric version of Journeyman>Acoustic.

But best of all is Nicko singing Age of Innocence

ashman 10-10-2004 11:14 AM

Electric version journeyman >>>>>>>> acoustic

ahh nickos version of age of innocence is called "Age of Innocence...How Old?" lol...what a guy.

Shady Ultima 10-10-2004 11:21 AM

Gurs I gotta disagree with you. I really don't like Face in the sand at all, find it to be the worst track. That or Wildest Dreams. Mind you it's still Iron Maiden, none of the songs 'suck' but I personally don't like those songs as much.

FrailandBedazzled1979 10-10-2004 12:17 PM

^^^

Face in the Sand isnt my favourite either, very weak song i think. However i do love Wildest Dreams.

ashman 10-10-2004 02:49 PM

Yeh face in the sand isn't the greatest Maiden song ever...

Thunder Fingers 10-10-2004 03:23 PM

got to agree with you, face in the sand is an 'kin great song, infact, im gonna listen to dance of death tonight! :p

PoliticallyIncorrectMetalhead 10-10-2004 04:07 PM

Are you kidding me. Face in the Sand has got to be one of Nickos best songs(drumwise)

Hi, Maiden Fans.
I finally scraped enough money together to buy another CD.
I'm thinking of getting an Iron Maiden CD.
I just want to get into these guys because i've heard some pretty good songs from them.
I was wondering which one would be the best choice for me.
I've got about 30 bucks to blow on some music.
Thank You in advance...?

UntoldProphecy 10-10-2004 04:58 PM

Piece of Mind or Seventh Son are my recommendations

flappersack 10-10-2004 11:01 PM

^^^exactly what he said.

shadow_stalker 10-11-2004 02:22 AM

number of the beast is my recomendation

Permanent Solution 10-11-2004 02:24 AM

I like Brave New World...three guitar parts is sweet...but most of the music I know off it come from Rock in Rio, and live is usually better so I dunno hah :thumb:

icebase 10-11-2004 02:25 AM
Yeh, I think paschendale would be a great video, but it would have to be on a huge budget, or it might look crap...I was actually thinking about it the other day.

I don't mind it watching it them play, but in the out of the silent planet video, their not even playing it, its just loads of videos from the brave new world tour put into one....that made me so angry
I did'nt see the Out Of The Silent Planet vid but the song's sweet.

Think maiden would put a budget on their stuff. After i seen Wildest Dreams i thought they had done away with the whole budget thing.

I first bought Number Of The Beast, but if you can't find that try Powerslave, Iron Maiden or Piece Of Mind which are all excellent albums of older Iron Maiden.

For newer Maiden, try Dance Of Death or Brave New World.
