Any Boogie Down Productions
Return Of The Boom Bap
KRS-One
Kristyles
Prophets Vs. Profits

The guy has 6 or 7 classic albums to his name.

gillygan 03-11-2007 01:04 AM

So I just bought the new Jedi Mind Tricks album, and I can't stop listening to "Uncommon Valor." The part where RA the Rugged Man comes in is amazing.

Apocalyptic Raids 03-11-2007 01:30 AM

New Jedi Mind is alright. I haven't listened to it much though.

sgrevs 03-11-2007 05:06 AM

Thanks AR and rams, will see what I can do.
why are you comparing nas to metallica?
Master of Puppets was a classic and so was Illmatic (note: this is opinion, although it is shared by many, before people start saying that Master of Puppets sucks or whatever). So many artists never achieve that classic status again no matter how hard they try. In ways, a lot of people automatically dismiss new albums as not as good because they have this mindset about this is what Metallica should be or this is what Nas should be.

I personally like how Nas and Metallica have evolved. I personally really like Nastramadus, which I think is possibly better than Illmatic, although a lot of people see that as Nas' worst.

I have heard a lot about KRS-One and Rakim but I have never heard any of their albums. Anyone got any recommendations on where I should start?

Apocalyptic Raids 03-12-2007 02:12 AM

get Eric B & Rakim's Paid In Full and KRS-One's Return of The Boom Bap.

I can see where you're coming from with the Metallica thing but I don't think it's really that similar. Metallica had already built up a reputation prior to Master of Puppets with Kill 'Em All and Ride The Lightning. DJ Shadow's career would be a more accurate comparison.

Rakim's - The 18th Letter if you want some more up to date beats, sometimes i find it hard to get into older hip hop . . .

RouteOne 03-17-2007 04:30 PM

So I'm really liking Sage Francis.

ATM 03-18-2007 12:00 AM

What have you heard? Most people here hate him, but I am a big fan.

RouteOne 03-18-2007 12:15 AM

Mostly just stuff on like, the 30 myspace pages that he has. I like his lyrics and the content of his songs. Why do people hate him?

antihippy 03-18-2007 12:55 AM

Some people find him whiney and too wordy.

Seriously though escape artists is an awesome song. I have to find some of his albums

ATM 03-18-2007 11:56 AM

Yea, do so. I'd get A Healthy Distrust first, and then pick up Personal Journals.

RouteOne 03-18-2007 11:58 AM

Yeah I'll see if my FYE has it, they should. I heard some of his spoken word too and some of it is pretty dark.

Eliminator 03-18-2007 12:12 PM

Escape Artists is a good song.

You've listened to him and don't realize why people hate him? His flow sucks and he says nothing.

ATM 03-18-2007 11:44 PM

To each is own, I really enjoy his work.
You've listened to him and don't realize why people hate him? His flow sucks and he says nothing.
I don't really care what other people think of his flow tbh I like him. Plus, you saying he says nothing is an outright lie. Read his lyrics, a lot of them actually pertain to real problems.
