Dreaming Neon Black and This Godless Endeavor are their best 2, the latter currently being my favorite.

Shadows 08-02-2005 04:25 PM

I'm listening to Dreaming Neon Black right now (but I still can't get Psalm of Lydia out of my head). I will definitely buy several of their albums. Great riffs, excellent solos, just a great metal sound overall. The vocals are quite good, which is saying something for me because I tend to favor screaming in metal.

Squirrel 08-02-2005 04:29 PM

I hate metalcore screaming, i love gutteral growls and screams - Cryptopsy, carcass, at the gates, Hate Eternal, Death etc

Today the warning came in the flood !!!!!!!!!!!!

/Nevermore

Shadows 08-02-2005 04:31 PM

I love the gutteral screaming to, like the bands you listed. I also like the higher pitched almost black metallish shrieking like old Children of Bodom, Arsis, old Emperor, and Enthroned. Singing is very unusual for me, but these guys pull it off.

Squirrel 08-02-2005 04:33 PM

Emperor fricking rule, Arsis are great, new Black Dahlia Murder is great, gone off CoB ( :( )

anyhow, youre a great person to chat to, ill have to speak to you some other time, in this thread or msn or whatever

but i g2g to bed now, off to amsterdam tomorrow :)

Shadows 08-02-2005 04:40 PM

Thanks, that's cool of you to say. :) We'll have to talk some other time, whether in these forums or over a messenger.

Good night and have fun in Amsterdam. :)

Shred Danson 08-02-2005 05:03 PM

/has yet to get new Nevermore CD :(

I agree with ya, Squirrel, metalcore screaming tends to get annoying after a while (i.e. Bury your Dead, Atreyu, From Autumn to Ashes, Still Remains...). A lot of it doesn't have a lot of range, it's just the same sound over and over. Michael Akerfeldt, however, is a madman (not saying Opeth is metalcore, calm down dudes, I know better, just showing an example of what I like).

I do like singing, as well. Just not when it's done crappily (like most metalcore bands :) ) I'm not raggin' on metalcore, because I dig the music, but the vocals in general suck.

I do love Trivium's vocals though...

Why do I have a feeling that there's going to be a lot more "singing while not actually singing" from Alexi on the new CD? "Angels Don't Kill", "Thrashed Lost and Strungout", "Knuckleduster"...

Same, I can't stand the metalcore screaming, I used to hate the growls, but now I do enjoy them so who knows maybe that will happen with the screaming, unlikely though.

Hey I'd Just like to introduce myself, I'm Jeremy O.
I thought I'd read the thread before i posted, but after 80 pages i just decided to post. I personnaly love Bodom, and I get to see them live in Montreal Nov. 10th :D I can't wait for that. Now I'm going to attempt to spark some Bodom discussion.
What was the first Children of Bodom song you ever heard?
for me it was Red Light in my Eyes part 1. I liked it very much and now im a diehard Bodom fan

Dr. Killgreedy 08-02-2005 09:53 PM

IheartSP 08-02-2005 09:53 PM

Welcome to the forums and to the Bodom thread! You will find were all pretty cool people around here, a lot of regulars. We made our own forum http://www.musicianalliance.net/phpbb2/index.php go check it out.

My first song was Kissing the Shadows. I have an explanation somewhere in the Hatecrew forum of what I thought of it, I don't feel like typing it again.

EverytimeIBodom 08-02-2005 10:08 PM

Well I joined the forum but mistyped my username, Is there a way to change it?

IheartSP 08-02-2005 10:09 PM

my first song was angels dont kill, which i think is why i still prefer the newer stuff over the older stuff such as something wild...but i still greatly enjoy hatebreeder and follow the reaper...i like the newer vocals better, to me the vox in hatebreeder sounded a little too sloppy, and the vox in follow the reaper were a little too raspy for my taste...the vocals in hatecrew were my favorite along with the new stuff, but the guitar work in follow the reaper is by far my favorite.

Yeah the first song you hear by a band can greatly influence what parts of them you like, in this case whether you prefer newer stuff like hatecrew or older stuff like something wild. I like something wild better, partly because the first song i heard by them was red light in my eyes part 1

Moses 08-02-2005 10:23 PM

I think mine was Bodom After Midnight.

Mine was either Kissing the Shadows or Falling the Reaper. Someone I knew got me to listen to them, and I remember thinking the instrumental part of the song was absolutely incredible, but that it sounded like something crawled down the throat of the lead singer and died. Then again, that was when I was first getting into metal, and I couldn't stand harsh vocals. Since then that style's really grown on me, and I really like Alexi's vocals.

Huber 08-02-2005 10:31 PM

My first was Silent Night, Bodom Night.

EverytimeIBodom 08-02-2005 10:35 PM

Alrite well I'm signin off ciao Bodom fans

Later.

What would you guys say is the easiest/funnest riff in a CoB song? I've only been playing guitar seriously for like 6 months and I'd like to play some CoB. I can play the opening riff to Bodom After Midnight but that's it.

Dr. Killgreedy 08-02-2005 10:41 PM

needled 24/7 to me is very easy and i enjoy it very much.

lollerskates 08-02-2005 11:10 PM

That song kicks major ***.

IheartSP 08-02-2005 11:43 PM

Ahhhh nooo...my dear Bodom!

I feel like I'm going to cry. That was full fledged metalcore right there, with some industrial in it. Say goodbye to Power Metal, for Bodom is no more. Alexi, I can't believe you could pull a Metallica like this. I don't care what oyu all say, we all love Bodom here yes but I bet half of you lie and say you like it just because it's labelled Bodom.

Sliptallica I know you like Metalcore tho, so I bet you are happy for the change, but in my book this is blasphemy. I have lost a lot of respect for Bodom right now, and I am crushed.

Moses 08-02-2005 11:47 PM

Yes, it's blasphemey if someone wants to make different types of music than previous works.

Still sounds powerish to me.

I don't hear a change, and I don't hear metalcore. Listen to it a few more times man.

Drugstep 08-02-2005 11:57 PM

It's just one song. Sixpounder was straight riffing without the symphonics, and you couldn't just assume that all of HCDR was like that, because it sure as hell wasn't.

Metallica's Ride THe Lightning was a true thrash album, but if Escape was the first cut you heard, you might think otherwise.

What I'm saying is, lighten up, it's just one track. *downloads*

Huber 08-03-2005 12:00 AM

It doesn't even have a single trait of Metalcore though. I don't get your logic. There's no more hardcore punk influence than there was before, and there isn't even a breakdown.

That just sounded like a great Metal song to me.
