CLICKY
It's downloading! Thank you so much! |
It's alright. Underwhelmed. New direction's not awe-inspiring like Lateralus was. I think it'll be a grower.
|
Thank God This Leaked
|
My download finished as I was hearing
"I KNOW THE PIECES FIT, I KNOW THE PIECES FIT" at the end of Schism. Quite the buildup. As Parabola washes over me I just want to say 1,000 posts, 10,000 Days, and I hope you all have a good night. |
Yeah, I'm going to go ahead and join all those people who are leaving this thread for a while...It's all too tempting.
See you all on May 2nd. |
It's a good idea for those who are waiting till May 2nd to leave, because then those of us who have the leak are free to discuss it.
|
I'm on Intension.
|
Or create a separate thread for the leak discussion.
SPOILER ALERT: The last half is good. |
Yeah, I'm out of here as well.
I might poke my head in the next few weeks, but other than that, nothing. |
Thanks for the teaser, Inc.
I'm not one for DL the entire album, but teasers I can deal with.. |
"Marie" is the middle name of Maynard James Keenan's deceased mother,
Judith Marie Keenan. * As Keenan explains on commentary on aMOTION, his mother suffered a stroke that left her in partially paralyzed and wheelchair-bound. I'm on 10,000 Days at the moment, oh man...
You're going to cream your pants at the bass and vocals on The Pot. |
Wow, you really enjoy having this over people.
Way to ruin the experience you've waited five years for.
It didn't ruin the experience for me at all. |
Damn...I'm lookin' at 4 hours and 14 minutes of downloading.
Stupid dial-up. The 30 second clip of Jambi was cool. |
Have the Vicarious video been aired yet?
I heard it on the radio on the way home from work today. It felt awesome to hear it on the radio. They didn't chop it up or anything either. |
The Jambi tease was different, but I like it so far. Can't wait to see how this album is going to all melt together in the end..
|
It's not really comparable to any other Tool release, but I will say there's a definate Disposition/Reflection/Triad feel to it. Mellow at times, hard at others. Not really Meshuggah at all.

Caution Spoiler Post!!!
Ok so I've just finished my first listen to 10,000 Days. As each song finished I would go to Word and type up what it reminded me of or what thoughts I had during the song. So here are my thoughts on this album, first track my track then I'll sum up. 1. Vicarious- I had already heard this song many times before the actual album, and we've discussed it plenty here as well, so i'm skipping onto Jambi. 2. Jambi- The first new Tool song I heard next to Vicarious. The intro realllly surprised me, with all the palm muting. It was very metal. Maynard's vocals really caught my attention in this song because they are especially loud. I wasn't digging the whole constant palm-muting/chugga chugga on Adam's part and began to think that the whole album would sound like that, but of course I was very wrong. This is where I noticed Maynard pushing his vocal boundaries more than before. He really hits some high notes and such, which is a trend that continues throught the rest of the album. The bass really stands out in this song, another trend that continues throughout the album. This track reminded me of a song that would be off Undertow mainly because of its aggressiveness and Adam plays a riff similar to a riff on Undertow. This song also reminds me of The Grudge with its heavy in your face guitar riffs. 3. Wings for Marie- This song was obviously about Maynard's mom, and the vocals were very interesting. I can't recall everything from memory because I've only listened once. It reminded me of Eon Blue Apocalypse and Parabol/Parabola. While this song was playing I began thinking it and 10,000 Days were like Parabol/Parabola. 4. 10,000 Days- Turns out I was right. Wings for Marie leads into this song. I didn't attempt to decipher the lyrics, because I was just listening and absorbing everything I could. But Maynard seems to be addressing his mother and he mentions an ascension to heaven or something of the sort and a "maker". He seems to direct some lines at his mother's religious beliefs, can't be too sure though. After hearing this song all I could think was "beautiful". It is absolutely beautiful. No other words to describe it. A definite stand out track. 5. The Pot- This was a very progressive/aggressive track and seemed more laid back and less dark than the previous songs. It seemed more like a Jam. Something Tool would just play for fun and rock out too. Didn't remind me of anything in particular. 6. Lipan Conjuring- Weird as hell. I don't quite understand this track. Interesting though. 7. Lost Keys- Another weird track, reminded me of Sober. Don't remember much of it. 8. Rosetta Stoned- This is the epic track on the album, next to 10,000 Days. Lost Keys leads into it I believe. I don't really know what to say about it except that it reminds me of Third Eye, The Patient, and H. This is the "third eye" track for the album. I just remembered, Lost Keys + Rosetta Stoned seem to be telling some sort of story that I can't remember and didn't try to decipher. 9. Intension- I don't quite remember this one too much. It really shows Danny great usage of electronic drums though. I wrote that this was the "Disposition" track of the album. That's the feel I got from it, especially with Danny playing Tabla. 10. Right In Two- This is the other beautiful song on the album. This song and 10,000 Days are the two stand out songs of the album, from my first listen. They obviously caught my attention more than any other songs. Just absolutely astounding, amazing. I wrote that it reminded me of 46 and 2, 46 and 2 Right in Two-- a relation? Probably a stretch, but I wanted to point that out. The lyrics seem to deal with Maynard's disappointment in humanity from what I heard and remember. 11. Viginti Tres- This song is als incredibly odd. It reminded me of Faiip de Oiad, the music played in Faiip de Oiad is very similar to this. It also reminded me of Ions. Overall I'm very impressed with this album. Adam's guitarwork has become unbelievably more technical, his use of effects is artistic and even godly. He plays some sweet solos in almost all the songs. Justin's bass lines are all over this album and much more apparent than in any other albums. They are so much more noticeable and amazsing lines too. Jesus. I didn't get a chance to pay too much attention to Danny's drumming, but from what I did pay specific attention to, I heard some amazing drumming. His use of electronic drums is very tasteful. He uses tabla in two or three songs I believe, and its f'ucking awesome. I love it. Maynard's vocals have reached a whole new level. He hits higher notes and really shows off his vocal talent on this album. I was impressed with his vocals. They are powerful and emotional and absolutely amazing. He has some really intense moments on this album. Well I'll leave it at that, I didnt mention a lot of stuff that I know I thought. I'm already on my second listen, I'm sure I'll have a lot more to say after a few listens. Ultimately this album had a much more mellow/dark feel to it than any other release of theirs. Its much slower tempowise as well. |

SPOILER ALERT
I was let down by the album at first, mainly because I'd judged it primarily on Vicarious and Jambi, which I still think are the weakest. The talkbox (?) solo on Jambi pissed me off when I heard it the first time before this leaked and hearing it in decent quality still annoys me. The rest of it does not disappoint though. The Pot's sorta weak and does not fully fit, but is like the single choice. Maynard sounds like a girl on it and I sorta giggled the first time. Aside from these three tracks, this album is awesome. There's a definite sense of acceptance of whatever and the feel of the album's like a funeral service. I've not tried to decipher lyrics just yet but there is a little conversation in one of the tracks about the state of the patient and nothing can be done for her. If Lateralus was understanding the secret, 10000 days is the aftermath, the letting go of what led to the understanding. I loved the tone of Danny's drums on the second half of the album. The basslines are sweet. I don't feel the guitar's grown much but then again, it's tasteful and it does what it should. I actually feel a little sheepish for thinking it'd suck from listening to the single. Apparently, it's about Maynard's mum being paralysed for 10000 days and letting go. |
