You didn't ruin my 'scrobbler. You didn't ruin the fun of it, or anything. I never recognized it as fun, it was just a conforming thing since everyone on MX was doing it.
Except me, heh. I don't get the point of it. I just listen to whatever I feel like, there are no patterns or anything. Why would it be so cool to see what you've been listening to a lot of? I assume that's somewhat the point of what audioscrobbler does. |
I just love stats about myself. That's why I love audioscrobbler en RYM and games with stats.
|
I use it. There is no point really, unless you join the MX groups. Then you ca an average of what other people listen to and stuff. You can learn some new bands too, from viewing people's profiles that you have similar tastes to.

Wooooh. My band has a gig at a pretty big pub in Leicester. Among the people that have played there are DragonForce, Paradise Lost, Oasis, Radiohead and Streetlight Manifesto.
I can't wait for this... |
You did just call it interesting though.
I just read the conversation we just had, and the last time either of us said something was "interesting" was when we were talking about Romanticism. [20:10] Caligula (l) Hannie -- White Trash: it's by far the most interesting period, imo [20:10] Caligula (l) Hannie -- White Trash: /literature student [20:11] Jom /// Let the current carry me away: Haha, very nice. [20:11] Caligula (l) Hannie -- White Trash: /and linguistic student [20:11] Jom /// Let the current carry me away: Yes, can't forget that linguini. It's very good pasta. [20:11] Caligula (l) Hannie -- White Trash: oh god, another pasta nazi [20:11] Jom /// Let the current carry me away: I was kidding (6) [20:12] Caligula (l) Hannie -- White Trash: doesn't matter, you're still a pasta nazi |
Fucking ironic that I'm not allowed to take the Romanticism classes. *Kicks self in head*

Ha, we get that all the time :p . But we have a promoter to whore us...one of my friends' band played a show with Throwdown, The Agony Scene, Sinai Beach and Remembering Never a month ago and Extol and Into Eternity a while back...they have the same promoter as us, so it's all good. |

It's pretty cool and pretty weird to hear somebody say good things about your band. Well, good luck, man, when you get some recordings, send 'em my way, and I'll do the same! I use commas a lot. |

You failed English? What a dipshit. :p |
I cannot believe how ignorant people choose to be in regards to music, even when I'm as polite as possible.
The following is an unabridged series of posts on another forum (I'm too lazy to get around the swear filter at this point):
I actually can't stand when bands think they deserve to be titled something other than what they are. Metal is ****ing metal. Period. Rap is crap. Hip hop, rap, they're all thugs with a microphone. Word to ya motha. Don't mind me...I'm very passionate about music and the state the music world is in right now, I'm absolutely disgusted. It's all **** nowadays. The eighties are kicking more *** than the 2000's.

The thing is, though, that people aren't looking hard enough. So many people will turn on the radio or turn on MTV or MTV2 or whatever and think that what is being played is representative of the whole genre. It's like someone turning on MTV2, seeing the video for "St. Anger," and going, "OMG METALLICA ****ING RULE DUDES, THIS IS THEIR BEST ALBUM TO DATE" when really, it's far far far far far far far from the truth. Unless, of course, you like your percussion to sound like trash cans and your production to be incredibly ****ty. And there was a lot of great hip-hop in the '80s, just as there was phenomenal rock and metal acts during that time as well.

Dream Theater and Limp Bizkit are totally different. And neither are metal as such. The Bizkit are very pop, possibly nu-metal at best (haha!), while Dream Theater are progresive rock. You can group DT with Genesis, Yes, Rush and other progressive rockers, despite them being a whole lot better. DT have a very varied style anyway, compare Disappear with As I Am.

Haha great stuff there strung its all true! Also who called St Anger Metallica's beat album? We all known it was AJ4A. Sure St Anger was not Metallicas best album. Yet it is still better than than half of the **** that gets put out there these days. Also dont give me the crap about nothing look for the good acts. Really if they are so good in there underground seen why are they not at the top? "ohhh but there music is not in at the monment". If they really are as great as people make them out to be they would be at the top. Im with you strung Metal is Metal. Really why is it now that we are just pulling name out of our ***?

Nope, because I know a lot of rock groups that are way better than anything you hear on the radio, but they're not marketable, or have a sound that isn't universaly appealing. The bands that are on top get pushed there by corporations, because they make money. You think big time rockers are rich, you should see the heads of the big record companies that sign the rock stars' checks. But I digress. The point is just because something is good does not mean it will make it to the top if someone can't get rich off of them.

*pretty big post that was a waste of time for me to write*

Hey, whoa calm down.... this is battle of the bands not bitch of the boards. Everyone is entitled to their opinions but the comments you made directly pointing out certain members is uncalled for. You are entitled to your opinion about Rap and Hip Hop but the fact remains that talking over a beat is not music. Yes it is a talent to some degree, but it cannot be counted as music. Music involves musical notes, riffs and bars, not a beat box and some idiot shouting into a microphone. Sometimes it does have a deeper meaning and for that I respect the likes of Eminem and Tupac but i do not consider their talent to be music. Anyway, that is irrelevant, this started because i refused to put crap into battle of the bands, so suck it up, or ship out.

Oh, please. You can ramble on and on about subjectivity, but it won't do any good. I would like to think that we're all adults here and can handle criticism just fine. I'm also a stout believer that people can be accepting of others' opinions here. I don't have ANY, and I repeat, ANY personal grudges or other miscellaneous theatrical bull**** with ANYONE on 4w. To insinuate that is bollocks. Haha, that last word was a joke. Get it? I'll even spell humour your way. See, I'm "defusing" this situation already with my natural charisma on the Internet. See? More jokes. Now, I don't think I've done anything extreme here. I haven't said anything along the lines of "**** off" or call people names like "*******." I was respectful. If asking clarifying questions or asking people to clarify for me is all of a sudden illegal, then go ahead and punish me with whatever you deem apropos. All I did was organize and address people by what they wrote. If this "pointing out" of certain members is going to make them shrink or make them feel small, that's just a piss-poor excuse to attack me with. No one here is spineless, to my knowledge, and it's going to remain that way. I've already explained that I'm an advocate for people to listen to all kinds and genres of music. I've already explained that out of the hundreds of albums I own, that they're rock and metal, and not hip-hop. But of course, people will only selectively pull out fragments of what others say to try to win a simple argument... because, yes, that's a perfect way to win an argument, right? Anyways: if you think I came here to be incendiary, you're sorely, sorely mistaken.

You've just twisted everything I just said, you know what? this argument is pathetic, no chastisement is needed but I just suggest that most people here believe Rap is Crap and move on so we can get back to what BOTB is about... Music
:-\ |
Radiohead - OK Computer
Opeth - ****ation Faith No More - King For A Day/Fool For A Lifetime The Clash - London Calling (Remastered) Alkaline Trio - Good Mourning Alkaline Trio - From Here To Infirmary Sublime - Sublime Porcupine Tree - In Absentia Total: $47.92  |
Holy hell, Jom, I read the first three, and I was like "what the hell"...didn't bother reading the rest. My eyes hurt. but I get where you're at, man, and I hate the people who just go with the bandwagon and say "oh they suck because they're on MTV lolol" I mean, I don't like Limp Bizkit or nu-metal, but I don't like it because it was popular with MTV and blablabla...

If I was to buy all of those albums it'd cost me $200, if not more. |

Yeah, I know what you mean. I always get depressed when I think about how much money I've spent on CDs, but then I realise that I have nothing else to spend money on so I buy another load. |
The average metal cd in HMV or Virgin where I am is about £15, which is a crazy amount. Always have to go digging in second-hand stores.
|
I usually pay $13-$15 around here. I like to buy online since it's usually cheaper, but it all goes on the credit card.
