Tomorrow I order a new set of strings for it, as well as a Behringer BX3000T head and an Avatar 2x12. Was going to spend a bit of cash and try to get a nice used head but 300 watts is what I need at the moment; in the future I'm going to invest in an Ampeg SVT-4 Pro or a power amp/preamp combo.

Im trying to convice my parents to let me purchase the avatar 2x12 for Christmas. The amp head that I just bought was over what I had, so I need to wait to get a cab. But I guess its worth it.

If your going to spend 300 dollars, might I suggest ebay and get either an ampeg svt-3pro, or something similar. Also, the Ashdown MAG 300H has 307 watts, more features, and costs the same as the beringer.

Actually, no. An Ampeg SVT-3 Pro retails for 850 USD +. On eBay, the cheapest I can find one for (due to incessant bidding...the SVT-3 Pro is not that great :evil: ) is about 600, often times more. As for the MAG300H, we'll see.

The Behringer BX3000T is 230 USD.

I'm going to wait a few days so I can watch a few eBay things, though.

My mistake. I mistook the watts (300) for price. Also, svt-3pros are on ebay A LOT. Just keep on checking. Ive seen some go for $270.

The Behringer is good for its price. And yeah the SVT-3 isnt very good, for some reason the SVT3 and 4 are lacking while the 2 and 5 are great.

I didnt like the 2. I dont know why. I only tried my fretless through it, so maybe its not good for fretlesses.

For 595 USD I could pick up a GK 1001RB now and have to wait a few weeks to get a cab for it. :p

I like the 2, its an aquired taste. The 5 is the best in my opinion. Though to me nothing is better than the good ol' SVT CL, I just didnt like the low wattage so I decided to get the SVP CL, powerred by a SVP 1600.

Good idea. Its better to buy something more expensive that you wont need to replace than to buy multiple crappy things.

Im not sure, but I heard Bag End makes excellent amps, like really good.

Yeah Bag End does but I dont think that particular one is that good, by looking at its specs. They can also be pricey sometimes.

Would my G-K over power these? It has 540 watts.

The first one would be OK if it was 8ohms but its only 4, I always recommend 8ohms, that way you can add a cab in the future without having to replace your existing cab. The power handling could be a bit better as well.

I was planning on only buying one cab. I dont really need two. Do I?
