I'm not really into Barrett-era Floyd.
It's my favorite era of Floyd because it was at their most experimental and freakish. Granted, Ummagumma is out there but it's not nearly as inventive and, well, catchy as Barrett's work with the band. In a lot of ways they never recaptured the drive or the spirit when he lead the group. In fact, I don't think they ever topped the first singles, the debut album, and "Jugband Blues". Atom Heart Mother, UG, Meddle, Wish You Were Here, and Animals (I'm not a big fan of Darkside. There's only two or three tracks that I enjoy and likewise I dislike the Wall and everything else that came after it) all have their moments but they never match the brilliance of Barrett. I think "Echoes" and "Careful With That Axe, Eugene" are the best post-Barrett songs. |

Barrett era Pink Floyd ruled
Tortoise - TNT |
Not only did Barret era Floyd rule, but The Madcap Laughs by him is fucking great. Too bad he went totally insane afterwards.
