For sure, nothin beats new gear!
|
It's ryanthedrummer...I finally got my name change!!!!
:D Hey Jim....are root notes always such a bad thing? |
For sure, nothin beats new gear!
heck yea. IMO, If someone truly loves drumming they would be happy with anything drum related they get...even if its just to jam with other drummers. Which I do quite a lot. Crazy how my uncle has been playing since he was 3 or 4 and I still havent been able to jam with him yet. Soon though. He works nights at frito lay. free chips....usually. |

Hey Jim....are root notes always such a bad thing?
Na they arent but they can keep you traped in a one set mind. It's like being stuck in the major and minor pentatonic scale forever. Which alot of players are! |
i dont do scales, i just choose notes that sound good...
|
Well you are most likely playing in one not knowing it.
|
Well I play both bass and drums.
In the bands were I did play bass, root notes were great for certain parts of songs, but I found that writing an original rhythm worked better for most parts. And thanks for the name change Jim :thumb: |
hmm, i dunno... i do know theory, i was a choirboy for 8 years.
also, is it just me, or has the layout just changed? also, pinch punch first o' the month! |
It's important to remember where the root notes are in improvisation, that way you won't get lost! Although if you have a good ear you shouldnt have to worry about that much.
|
root notes on a bass can be good, but if they're all you use, then thats the sign of a poor bass player.
root notes tend to reinforce the chord alot, so if you want an especially powerful 'force' so to speak, root notes will do that. Of course, if you're The Who, Townshend could supply plenty of force with his guitar alone with Entwistle wailed around on the bass like nobody's business. |
Well a big influence on my playing is Geddy Lee,and he's really original at writing his basslines.
I also like Steve Harris, but he does nothing BUT root notes :s |
Yep the root notes are the foundations of a chord, the same way appregios on the fretboard can be used for chordal patterns.
|
If you play all root notes then all your doing is matching the guitar the whole time.
Come on be original!Bass is for rhythm! And were in the DRUM stronghold :p |
That doesnt mean thats all we play
|
I play drums, bass and keyboard
Don't go thinking im a one insturment kind of guy :upset: |
You should never be, play as much as you can! Makes you appreciate music in a better fuller way. Once you understand whats being played by everyone in the band and what it takes to play it ect ect... You can really appreciate the top notch stuff thats out there.
|
i play drums, keys, and I can play trombone, though its been awhile
|
Im trying to learn guitar...but man.
Chords are tricky :( |
Im trying to learn guitar...but man.
Chords are tricky :(
Just start with G and A. Which are you having problems with? On another note....I cant sleep. Thanks for name change Jim. |
i play drums, keys, and I can play trombone, though its been awhile
same here frog! |
The most im having trouble with is learning songs and they have chords that are notes that are really stretched apart.. :(
Like I need rubber fingers. |
Just start with G and A. Which are you having problems with?
If I had to guess I would bet making the strings all ring out freely, takes forever to get the hand position and finger arch to move them around. Practicing G to A is a good way to start off. It eventualy just clicks and you wonder how the strings were getting muted before. |
Well, I just saw Trivium, In Flames, Zao and Devildriver. The latter 2, not so good, very bad sound for Zao, and just plain and simply bad songs for Devildriver. On the upside, Trivium ****in' rocked, as did In Flames. I love In Flames.
edit- Jim, thanks for the name change. |
Im seeing that show in feb MG :D
Im disapointed on your review of devildriver...they were'nt good at all? :upset: |
I didn't like them. There music has like no melody or anything, it just seemed like alot of noise to me. And the vocals were terrible. But oh man, In Flames, sooooooooo awesome.
|
I bet.I can't stand zao though.
Just a bunch of guys playing open notes and screaming/growling about Satan...no lies either. Trivium oughtta be good. They always give a good show from what i've heard. |
yeah, Trivium's show is sweet, I met Matt Heafy, their lead singer/guitarist. And I agree about Zao for the most part, but they do have some cool stuff. Some of it is more melodic, but they didn't play any of that. It's funny, because they started in 1989, and currently there are no original members left in the band.
|
I hope I have a band that ends up like Zao
Well im mainly going to see In Flames tbh. |
Yeh, I was going to see Trivium and In Flames. Trivium sort of bores me, yet I bought a Trivium tour t shirt, but that's only because I didn't like any of the In Flames shirts, even though they are definetely like one of, if not, my favourite metal band.
|
I wonder if I get 3 hours of sleep if that will be enough.
