Hey, I got a question for everyone. Why does kirk hammet, (a metal icon) wear a cowboy hat? He is not from texas like dime so what does he plan to ride?

He has horses on a ranch he owns.

DisposableHeroes 08-12-2005 09:36 AM

I would hardly call him a metal icon these days anyway

Jev 08-12-2005 09:52 AM

It's funny how he always plays with his middle finger sticking out though.

Metallideth666 08-12-2005 10:17 AM

Chu 08-12-2005 11:55 AM

For Whom The Bell Tolls is their easiest song I think.

Not only that, it's one of their best! In my opinion, meh.

Yeah for sure. Thats the first Metallica song I learned all the way through.

alytee123 08-12-2005 11:59 AM

Anythign from st.anger...but im sure you dont want none of that. Fuels pretty easy, sandman, NEM, unforgiven, one, master of puppets if you wanna put a lil bit of work effort into the solo...

Chu 08-12-2005 12:05 PM
Yeah for sure. Thats the first Metallica song I learned all the way through.
Same :thumb:
Although, I learnt it first on bass, and then guitar when my band got a better bassist (But we lost a guitarist at the same time  )

Kirk Hammett will ALWAYS be a metal icon. You cant disrespect such an incredibly influential guitar player to the metal genre. Half the people you see these days (Matt Heafy, Buzz McGrath, ETC.) are all hugely influenced by him.

I know I wouldnt have picked up a guitar if not for him.

Even if you don't like his technique or his solos alltogether, you can't say he has not played a massive part in the metal genre.

fenderbender89 08-12-2005 12:51 PM

me too

angusmaster 08-12-2005 01:03 PM

I think kirk is one of the best guitar players of all time , especially metal , i only know about 2 of his solos (enter sandman and bits and pieces of one) , and the rythm and the 2 guitar parts(where they are both doin the same notes in 2 different places which they do in alot of songs)for about 9 songs , but ive only been playin for 2 years.

Chu 08-12-2005 01:09 PM

I think he was just saying, these days he's not as big as he was.

I mean sure nearly everyone in this post (The Metallica thread) who plays guitar is probably influenced HEAVILY by Kirk Hammett, he's just not as big as he used to be.

Yeah, hes nowhere near as good (creatively), he still has the speed of course. But now, he just seems to abuse the wah and his solos are not as metal as they used to be in the pre-black album era.

EDIT: He is still a metal icon for many people. I prefer James though.

If you're pretty fast you can play songs like whiplash, hit the lights or
(the one I'm still learning) Blackened.

Father_Jack 08-12-2005 01:14 PM

Harvestor of Sorrow kicks arse and is easy-ish to play

Yea , im learnin blackened now.
I would hardly call him a metal icon these days anyway
Just because you wrote some bad material (or in his case none at all if you're refering to lead work) doesn't mean he isn't an icon anymore. Him and the rest of the band just need to sort some s**t out before they can get more focused on writing good songs again. (BTW I finally have seen Some Kind Of Monster and I liked the part when Lars and Dave Mustaine confront each other. IT'S ABOUT TIME!!!)

Start with these. For whom the bells toll, ride the lightning, sanitarium, one, enter sandman, wherever I may roam, fade to black. The solos may be a little difficult for you because I am not sure about how well you play. Welcome to the forums.
