Well Metallica isn't 100% any genre, they have played Thrash in Kill 'em All, Ride the lightning and St. Anger, they combined Thrash and Speed in Master of Puppets and in songs like Orion and the AJFA album they added Progressive sounds to some songs, after that they broke many of the orthodoxe rules of Heavy Metal with the Black album, in Load the expiremented with Hard Rock, Alternative Metal and even Country, same with Re Load, many of the bands they covered have nothing to do with Metal, and for some reason they have played with an orchestra.
There's many veriety in Metallica, that's another thing i like about them.

I can't stand to listen to the same kind over and over again...so that is why in my opinion Metallica is the best abnd on earth. they add new sounds to there music with each album but they leave enough to keep there old fan and build a larger fan base

iluvkirkhammett 01-07-2006 12:48 AM
Without a doubt. Jason had some awesome riffs and he also had more time in the band then Cliff did. I'm curious as what ...AJFA would have been like with Cliff.
It would have just been And Justice For All but you would have been able to hear the bass.

fade 2 blackened 01-07-2006 12:56 AM

Whoa, 3 months and this thread practically multiplies in size. Let me catch up....ok, on subject...screw it, change subject.

What would Metallica be like if they had Rob all the way through?

iluvkirkhammett 01-07-2006 01:01 AM

I have no idea, I don't think they would have evolved as much as they have.

A regular Thrash band.

IMO it would of been a bit different

i agree. as much as this new rob fella is raved about in playing ability, i dont think he brings as much to the creative table as jason did.

Well duh.We know Jason and Cliff were better bassist than Rob and did way more writing than Rob.
But hey, they needed a new bassist and Rob was available. :thumb:
(And he doesn't do a bad job either)

I don't know about that...Rob didn't have anything to do with St. Anger since it was pretty much done with by the time he got there so whatever talent he has for Metallica's future has been untapped until we hear the next record...which I hear is the finishing touches are being put on it.

CunningStunt 01-07-2006 03:04 AM

uve got me all re-excited about the new album!! god i hope its not a letdown.

and didnt rob used to play for ozzy?? did he do much writing there? cood get an insight into his creative skills.

Mein bass 01-07-2006 03:07 AM

Rob has played for suicidal tendecies(sp),black label society(\m/),and yes...Ozzy from what i've heard.
Im not sure what he helped with..
Meh ask Zakk Wydle.

BLS_Infernus 01-07-2006 03:07 AM

Rod played for Ozzy but I'm unsure about writing...I know he helped with something for Zakk on 1919 Eternal and he was in Suicidal Tendencies for a while so check out that stuff

Don't know how you can say that. Rob hasn't written for Metallica yet.

Ghost Of Perdition 01-07-2006 06:32 AM

I think AJFA has its own unique sound, because of the bass being so quiet.
IMO i dont think it would've had the same effect as a metal album tbh, im not sure why.
But its such a metal album, havin 'regular' bass lines would've made it a 'regular' Metallica album.
IMO any way :)

How come? It was wrote as a tribute to Cliff.

James could've still come up with it and Cliff could've helped improve it.
James could've still come up with it and Cliff could've helped improve it.
i dunno if james would have come up with it without cliff's dying.
also, megadeth's In My Darkest Hour was a pretty awesome song, also related to cliff's death.

superdigg 01-07-2006 10:02 AM
Metallica isn't thrash...while they were one the first bands to have that sound they aren't a thrash band. Lars himself said that.
 since when are we accepting everything lars says about metallica's direction and genre? ulrich's word is about as good as mustaine's, at this point in time.

I've heard IMDH isn't actually about Cliff, so I'm unsure about it. I think it's about him and I love it. It's one of my favourite 'deth songs. Not having it wouldn't be so great but think about it, what Megadeth songs are we missing out on if Cliff lived?

superdigg 01-07-2006 10:26 AM
Not having it wouldn't be so great but think about it, what Megadeth songs are we missing out on if Cliff lived?
uhh basically just IMDH, right? or are you trying to make a point? i'm confused. i don't think any other songs were (allegedly) about cliff.

Jev 01-07-2006 10:27 AM

I mean if Cliff had lived would there have been Megadeth songs about him that aren't around today?

heh, it's a bit confusing I can't word it properly.

Mein bass 01-07-2006 10:33 AM

Wow.
I guess even though he was booted Dave must have been good friends with Cliff.
Im guessing Dave wrote IMDH...

superdigg 01-07-2006 10:40 AM
(Regarding IMDH)
"This song was written the day that I found out that Cliff Burton had died. It's a very moving song for me because it really expresses a lot of the emotion that I was going through. I was really sad and I think the music kind of carries that kind of feeling with it. A lot of people have written our fan club and said, 'Dave, I have nothing really to live for, life sucks, and then you die, ' and that 'this song's given me something to look forward to and I understand now and I see someone like you that also goes through these problems, ' and let's face it, life sucks. But there's certain things that can get you through and when I find out that people were turned on by this music and it gives them hope to carry on and stuff like that, it makes me feel good. Anyway, I hope this song works for you."
Happy, it looks like burton's death did in fact have a strong effect on mustaine, and consequently, his songwriting. so uhh yeah maybe we wouldn't have a lot of megadeth stuff if burton had lived :O

so uhh, back to metallica before someone tells me to fuck off to the 'deth thread.

Mein bass 01-07-2006 10:44 AM

:'(
That's sad.
Daves deep man. *cries like a pansie*

darrell 01-07-2006 11:16 AM

I'd like to hear the next album. I won't buy it unless it's good. I own everything up to S&M, but I never bought St. Anger because it sucks so much. Hopefully this one will redeem Metallica for the terrible album they put out a couple years ago.

And I hope Lars buys a new snare.

No. But I do know Sanitarium's main riff is stolen from an obscure NWOBHM band called Rainbow House and the "mutiny in the air" melody sound identical to Helena by the Misfits.

DaveTheAmazing 2.0 01-07-2006 12:03 PM

Yo Metallicats and dawgs. Bleeding Me live at Woodstock anyone?

Such an awesome song, and and awesome performance. Also, James's hair is kinda long :smoke:

I love Metallica, theyve been my favorite band for quite a few years. Cliff Burton is one of my heroes and a big inspiration for how I play bass. Im lookin forward tothe next album because Ive been hearing that its gonna be pretty pi$$ed off sounding, like how they were in the old days. Only Album I dont like is Re-Load

Some actual proof would be better than what another artist says. Some artists are honest, and some are jaleous, so you never know really.

What's the name of the band and song that they took sanitarium riff from? I really want to hear that since I love that riff.

Rob wasn't there to write anything...of course he hasn't done any writing.

abd Please stop with the 123 smily post.

And yea my band is doing the Tallica version. Not the thin lizzy version. They are kinda weak in that song. James was a huge fan of them growing up so that's why Metallica coverd it.

Hey Joe (lol favorite song) thanks for that Bass solo. How did you find my E-mail?

I believe it's Rainbow House. Might not be though.
