Murd_666 03-31-2006 09:56 PM

Ok I need help, I'm gonna start saving up for a new cymbal stand but while I'm at it I'm gonna buy a new cymbal. I'm looking for a crash/ride or a ridealble crash/ crashable ride. So I need suggestions. I'm looking for a Mid sounding crash, preferably to the dark side, I HATE bright crashes well most of them. I also want a cutting bell, that I do want towards the bright side. As for riding qualities I want pingy as it can get, but I wouldn't mind wash. I would prefer it to be pretty versitile becuase other than my crap for hats, which I'm getting around to replacing, this is the only cymbal I am going to have. So yeah, I'm looking for something thats good from somewhat low dynamic levels to pretty loud. Preferably Sabian, Istanbul or Zildjian, most other brands Would be a hassle for me to get but I would try.

FL3P 03-31-2006 09:57 PM

^^ you had me worried that were just going to but the stand......anyway try a K Custom or even a regular K.

Murd_666 03-31-2006 10:05 PM

I will look into that, but I was looking for something more to the 18" size, I won't bother with the K custom cause I'm not a fan of them but I will look into the K's I have to try one in person.

FL3P 03-31-2006 10:07 PM

Im giving the 19" K Custom Hybrid a shot, I like bigger crashes as well.

Quinto 04-02-2006 10:50 AM

what k custom ride is most similar to an a ping ride but with more of a dry ping, and more wash?

Drum Phil 04-02-2006 03:27 PM

Special dry ride?

FL3P 04-02-2006 03:44 PM

^^ wouldnt have much wash. I dont know what K Customs would be good for that but a K heavy ride might give you a bit of both. I guess the hybrid is supposed to be crashable as well.

Quinto 04-02-2006 05:01 PM

trying to find my dream cymbal set up, and thought k might hold the sound, i dont like sabian sound for some reason, nothing against them or anything, and i dont have any meinl dealers around

could i get that kind of sound from paistes? ty

also do you think a 21" a ping might give me that kind of thing?(i know id have to get it custom)

Maybe a K custom ride, its pretty pingy and has good wash but a lot darker than the ping, which i'm guessing is what you'd be after.

i was cheking out my savings the other night and i got like $550, i was thinking on this:
- HH fusion hats 14" (i didn't liked heavy hats but the other i tried out some AA flats and a zxt rock, and the heavines wasnt a problem) or AAX-xcelerator 14"
- 18" HH dark crash, 16" AA thin crash
- 22" HH Heavy ride or a 22" raw bell dry ride but it'll take tooo long

so what do you think, i like this but i want other opinions

jadester48 04-07-2006 09:43 AM

not exactly on topic but i didn't want to make a separate thread for it:
anyone know where i can find a sound sample of Paiste 802 14" hi-hats (or which of their current ranges is equivalent, if any)?

The Feeding 04-07-2006 10:53 AM

what about Z customs for playing metal? will they be heard?

Vannaroth 04-07-2006 11:00 AM

Hey guys, I'm looking for a ride cymbal with alot of ''ping'' to it, I've heard the ping ride and its not bad but it still has quite a few overtones to it. I hear the Avedis Earth ride is meant to be like hitting the bell of a ride cymbal over and over and thats pretty much what I want, though I cant find a sound sample and I want a second opinion.

Can anyone confirm this or provide a link to a sample? thanks

spirit 04-07-2006 11:08 AM

Sample on Zildjian site.

fishbulb 04-07-2006 05:35 PM

I played some vault hats at GC last weekend and i really like them. Really clean full sound to them. Any other hats that sound like that?

chewaz 04-07-2006 10:42 PM

what do you think of the 2002 wild ride 22"?

LostRythym 04-08-2006 06:57 PM

Im looking for crash that is about $200 sg dollars(1.6 sg dollar = 1 US dollar) that is warm and blends with music. Now looking at 16" K custom session Crash, HHX 16"/17" Stage Crash, HHXplosion 16" Crash. Thanks.

320 USD than?

If that's the case

Zildjian CIE Vintage.

It's like butter baby. Like butter.

I probably did my math wrong though.

styler 04-08-2006 08:16 PM

i would have to say probably the 16" or 18" hhxplosion, the k custom session sounds...spongy at best. i didnt really like it at all.

spirit 04-08-2006 08:23 PM
I probably did my math wrong though.
200 $SG

1.6 $SG = 1 $US

200 $SG = ? $US = 200/1.6 = 125 $US

Of course, I could've done my math wrong. :p

Assuming my maths is correct, the crashes you're looking at are either very cheap in Singapore, or out of your price range. Assuming it's the latter, I'd recommend saving up some more money.

LostRythym 04-09-2006 02:28 AM

^^^^^
Haha, Im getting a 40% discount on an already discounted 20%.
Eg. Cost x 80/100 = first discount
discounted cost x 60/100 = final cost.

How dose every one rate SABIAN HH 20" MEDIUM RIDE just considering bying it and looking for opinions

styler 04-09-2006 08:09 AM

i heard it with all the logos and etc cleaned off, almost made to a brilliant finish, sounded alright, very quiet though. the one i heard most likely sounds nothing like the original though.

blabla 04-09-2006 10:11 AM

i would like to buy a sabian chinese i want a trashy one and one that is not overly loud in volume. what do you guys suggest.

FL3P 04-09-2006 10:25 AM

The Xtreme chinas are very trashy and loud but dry

Tim 04-09-2006 11:04 AM

I love the AA chinese. might wanna get a 16. those are nice. I own the 18 and i love it. Buuut the AA chinese are kinda loud.

Quinto 04-09-2006 12:39 PM

blabla 04-09-2006 02:06 PM

ok guys.
hh thin chinese 18"
hhx chinese 18"
signature devastation chinese 17"

taking in account price, volume, and trashyness

Drum Phil 04-09-2006 02:20 PM

HHX or Sig easy. What are you lookin for in the china?

Tim 04-09-2006 03:44 PM
HHX or Sig
my thoughts exactly. The sig will probably be more expensive though.

Drum Phil 04-09-2006 03:46 PM

Not always. 20.5" Chad smith explosion is cheaper than my 19" AAXplosion.

18" AA Thin crash. Opinions?

We_Love_Lime 04-09-2006 06:27 PM

We have a 16 Zildjian Medium Thin Crash at school.

Sorta like an 18 AA Thin Crash.

Well it sounds like ****e.

Lol....

My knowledge is much appreciated eh?

WilliaMega 04-10-2006 05:45 AM

Im looking for a Crash I can ride in harder type music. Breakdowns, Chaotic parts, but versitalle enough to use as an accent or for lighter music...
Im looking for a Crash I can ride in harder type music. Breakdowns, Chaotic parts, but versitalle enough to use as an accent or for lighter music...
dont go for anything heavier than a medium crash. Find a good medium thin with a good sized bell on it. LIke the Sabian AA medium thin crash. Or AAX plosion crash.

Drum Phil 04-10-2006 05:53 AM

I just compiled a list of crashes to try :D

17" A thin
18" A Medium thin
18" A Thin
17" A Custom fast
17" A Custom projection
18" A Custom fast

18" AAX Stage
19" AAX Dark
17" HH Dark
17" HH Medium thin
17" HHX Stage
17" HHXtreme
17" HHXplosion

Corrrr

One of those may well be mine soon.

Ethan. 04-10-2006 06:07 AM

What happened to Drum Phil?

DruMMeR_BoY14 04-10-2006 06:12 AM

He was crucified but came back to life to deliver his message of love to the world.
