like the jingle bell tune in Octavarium
|
youve heard I&W, 6DOIT and ACOS, and you still think 8V is the best??? hmmm.....i dont see how
Here's how I rank 'em: 1. Octavarium 2. Images & Words 3. A Change of Seasons 4. 6 Degrees of Inner Turbulence 5. Awake Hey the important thing is that we're both fans of Dream Theater. Some people perfer different albums over others...that's personal opinion. But we both like the same band. :thumb: |
Does anyone else prefer Awake to Images and words..
|

When I first heard them it was only really the heavy songs that attracted me (TGP, songs from ToT), but since then most of it seems to have grown on me and there's little I dislike. |
yeh, as long as you like DT, I don't think your a loser

:) Thank you. |
I've only managed to convert one person and his dad(?!?) to DT who I know. Nobody I know seems like them or has never heard them

I got into DT by hearing about Petrruci in my guitar magazines all the time. They said he's just as good as guys like Satriani and Vai. So said who the hell is this guy? I've got to hear his stuff. Now I see. |
I got into them after my brother showed me the cool piano solo thing in Dance of Eternity and the piano solo in ACOS on LSFNY. And the simpsons theme they played in ACOS. After that I just watched the video of ACOS at LSFNY until i memorized it all. Then I just gradually started listening to more DT. and it was great

Rasnkings of DT albums?
mine goes Images and words Train of thought Scenes from a memory Octavarium Six degrees A change of seasons Awake Falling into infinity. That was difficult :( |
Does anyone else prefer Awake to Images and words..
I do. The only thing I like more on I&W than Awake is the bass playing. |
And the simpsons theme they played in ACOS.
Im only new to DT so does anyone have albums they would recomend
Thanks man :thumb: :thumb:
Yeah I agree with Lord Abortion's reccomendations, Train of Thought is a lot heavier than the others though, so I'd only reccomend that at first if you're a big metal fan. |
The show yesterday wsa very good :)
Not much more to say 8-) except I got somke picture you can see them if they are online |
James' voice still works well?
Better than Hetfield's |
Better than Hetfield's
Hahaha...that made me laugh. As if that poser Hetfield would ever hope in his wildest dreams to have a voice as good as LaBrie's |

Lawlz, I was bored today, so as I was browsing for skins on Winamp, I decided to troll over to the "video" section and take a look.
I found DT in the "Classic and Oldies" genre... http://www.winamp.com/videos/browse.php?mtype=V&genre=2 |
I found this pretty amusing. http://jlbscream.ytmnd.com/
haha, that first one cracks me up every time, anyone know what song/show is that from????? Order of my favourite DT albums: Images and Words Scenes From A Memory Train Of Thought / Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence A Change of Seasons Octavarium Awake/Falling Into Infinity |
James' voice still works well?
From what I've heard, on this tour it's better than ever. |
'Live at Budokan' kicks ***. I love the way it opens with "As I Am." "Beyond this Life" is also very good on the DVD.
|
I should get that DVD...I have the cd, and it's quite good.
We actually discussed Dream Theater in music theory today...apparently, Rudess's wife (or somebody related to him) owns a theater company about 10 minutes from my house. My guitar teacher said he had a friend who knew Rudess as well. That man is a brilliant pianist... |

I don't know...with a band like Dream Theater...you need to hear them as well as see them (espicially Portnoy). The camera work on 'Live at Budokan' is amazing. |
What state is Dream Theater from?
|
DT remains my favorite band for about 4-5 years now. i have every album plus many Portnoy dvds. For me, they are the only one band that never gets me bored after hearing the song countless times. everytime i hear Erotomania and Dance of Eternity, something goes down in my stomach. they are just, flawlessly written.
As far as drumming goes, there ARE more influential drummers out there, but i don't think there are many who can play with the intensity Portnoy pump out. I went to their 15th anniversity show in Hollywood and for 3 god**** hours (their shows are 3 hours long...) with so much charisma it was just inspirational... so i ended up buying a ticket to Japan for Budokan show and he did awesome job there, too Portnoy will always be my #1 hero... too bad i couldn't see him on Giga tour. |

New York. LaBrie is Canadian and I think Rudess might be from Portland but I'm not sure.
DT remains my favorite band for about 4-5 years now. i have every album plus many Portnoy dvds.
