Its not peaceful, but not apocalyptic either. Its still something that I could fall asleep to. In the context of the whole song the tension there is still not enough, for me at least, to say that its not a peaceful song.

Kage 10-23-2007 11:33 AM

You're an idiot.

gmoneyguy 10-23-2007 11:37 AM
You're an idiot.
Why because I don't agree with you. Musical opinion is entirely subjective.

Have you even studied composition? That is tiny segment in the song used to build tension, and naturally leads to release back into the peaceful. Even the most peaceful of things have moments of chaos. The song being a reflection of that.

Kage 10-23-2007 11:38 AM

lol, have I ever even studied composition.

gmoneyguy 10-23-2007 11:39 AM

then you should know a little section does not dictate feel of the whole. Please explain why I am an idiot for disagreeing.

Kage 10-23-2007 11:40 AM

But the atmosphere is one of emotional intensity the whole way through. Just because there isn't raging distortion doesn't make it peaceful.

Also, you need to hear F#A# and Slow Riot for New Zero Kanada.

For me it does. When I listen to them I can let my mind wander and go where it wills. I think we have differing ideas as to what is peaceful.

Are those albums or songs? When I get home tonight I'll blog search for some more GYBE.

Zebra 10-23-2007 12:22 PM

they're albums

bwnstl 10-23-2007 12:31 PM

Guys, you're forgetting the main point, that GY!BE blows oranguatang balls.

/troll

Edit: Oh yeah, Kage, what'd you think of Rosetta's new one? I haven't been on these boards regularly for a few months so I don't know if it's been discussed. I happen to like it quite a bit, especially the Lift series.
why is that I've never met a girl with good taste in music

is it because:

EITS are a good gateway into better post rock.

Its actually only F#A#infinity that gives him nightmares. The asian preacher at the start of East Hastings freaks him out. Hes 16.

I really need to hear Tiny silver hammers and lift you skinny fists. I only have F#A# and Yanqui UXO

gmoneyguy 10-23-2007 09:43 PM

I am actually in the process of downloading F#A#infinity

Yeah, you definitely do need to hear Lift Your Skinny Fists. That's the best Godspeed album IMO. Yanqui is alright. It's got some good parts on it. I hate how they left out those field recordings though.

Dr. Jake Destructo 10-24-2007 12:46 AM

Godspeed are apocalyptic as all get out. The stuff they write about gives me bad vibes that definitely carry over in many of their arrangements.

And don't forget Slow Riot.

The best Godspeed record. And probably the most accesible too.

Kyle 10-24-2007 05:43 AM

Anyone here listen to Youthmovies? I saw them for the 3rd time last night and they have gotten SO good. Their EP's are decent and all, but when their full album drops next year it's going to be like album of the year or something.

big80smullet 10-24-2007 07:02 AM

When my compy decides it want to behave himself or i get a new one ill download it. Ive heard that lift your skinny fists is the best. I wanna hear them all tbh

RouteOne 10-24-2007 09:01 AM
