Hey, I normally do not post in here, but I didn't feel like making a new thread about this.
Does anyone have a tutorial for guitar pro?

What exactly do you need help with? I can probably give you some aid.

kevbud187 08-03-2006 11:16 PM

Trigger_003 08-04-2006 01:09 AM

Hey man, how are ya?

I'm getting dragged out to look at new kettles... somehow...

Haha, I guess I'll have to catch you guys later.

Just overall composing.
Creating ,ultiple layers that run at the same time, expand note lengths, add effects, use drums, stuff like that.

Trigger_003 08-04-2006 05:09 PM

All of that kinda stuff is covered in the help files (Help->Index).

Wow. A weekend without any rehearsals or jam sessions. That's pretty much the first time in over 7 months or something.
*body goes into shock*

/is trying to decide my subjects for next year... I've got 7 I want to do and I have to narrow it down to 5. I'm stuck :(.
Just overall composing.
Creating ,ultiple layers that run at the same time, expand note lengths, add effects, use drums, stuff like that.
Adding New Layers

Track -> Add... -> Choose either Instrument or Percussion

If you choose instrument choose how many strings and what tuning you want.

To write notes in you can either type the number on the tab staff, click the note/type any number on the standard notation staff where you want it. Or alternatively you can bring up the fretboard or piano visual by clicking on it up the top right and clicking where you want a note to be placed.

Changing A Note Length

Click on the note you which to extend/shorten, then in the task bar at the top left of the screen you will see a row of 7 notes, click which one you want to use. You can also use the "." that is next to the notes to make the value 1.5x longer.

Using Drums

Once you add a drum track by using the above instructions it will automatically bring up a window with all the drum sounds you can use and their relative number. You can bring this window back up at any time by clicking on the drum picture next to the guitar and piano ones up the top which you used before.

To put in the drumbeat you would like, choose the drums to be used in it, write down their numbers or remember them, and then type that number into the tablature section, then change the note lengths to suit your drumbeat, it is also alot easier to read/change the drum tab later on, if you devote one line to the bass drum, one to the snare, one to the hi hat, one for cymbals, just lay it out so you can read it easier later depending on what you use.

Using Effects

I don't actually know how to use effects on Guitar Pro, well i do but they dont seem to make a difference when i playback even with the real sound engine turned on. But next to the volume/pan settings down the bottom for your tracks, there is four more settings to the right

Cho (Chorus)
Rev (Reverb)
Pha (Phaser)
Tre (Tremelo)

Click on the 3 letter abbreviations to open them up, you can then use the slider to add more or less of this effect though as i said i am unsure why i cannot get it to playback.

You can also use stuff like bends, slides, hammerons/pulloffs, tremelo picking, staccato, ghost notes, harmonics, palm muting, vibrato, wah, tapping, popping, slapping and a few other things.

These appear in the taskbar at the bottom of the screen just above your tracks, and a few of them have a second window open up when you use it, such as bends, for choosing how long and how fast the bend will occur, how high the pitch will bend to and whether it will come back down or you can choose where the pitch will go.

If you mess around with a few of these functions for a while you'll get the hang of it. :thumb:

tired. eh. im crazier during the summer. I found out that jumping off the roof isn't very painful... anyways... erm... I've been playing some mmorpgs in my down time and enduring extreme physical sprees... my marching band is hardcore i swear. I'm getting ready for that, learnin' a new inmstrument in a week. Basically I'm screwed. why am I still typing I should be practicing. bye :p

Trigger_003 08-06-2006 12:05 AM

Jee, nice work Josh. How'd the jam go, if it happened?

Haha, you're always crazy Kevin. How many instruments are you up to now? You're being a bit greedy you know - don't you have enough already?

Yeah, I'm pretty nackered myself. Sleep would be great.
Anyway, I shold be practising too. Back off to tromboning for me

The jam didn't happen unfortunately :(, it was the drummers birthday and he spent it at his dads. Oh well next weekend definately :smash:

By the way, i've been checking out those lessons on flamenco you posted, i'm definately gunna try these out, :p

Thanks heaps.

Trigger_003 08-06-2006 04:10 AM

Ah, that's no fun. I've sort of been having the same problem with one of my bands, but ours is more a case of having nowhere to practice, along with a lack of time due to school which is a real shame because we were going really well.
We used to practice at school, but now we're at a different campus and the music room isn't available other than when we have classes or lessons. We'd go to our drummer's but it's 20min away or so and we can't drive yet.

Oh well.

Awesome :). I don't like them for the reasons I said earlier - I really need to put up some flamenco pieces so that people can actually try those techniques out properly. *shakes fist at study*

Yeah it's annoying when you're someone who breathes music haha, i can't wait til next weekend. I'm assuming by your flamenco lessons that you play guitar? Amongst trombone of course :p How many instruments do you play and how've they been going?

Those lessons have really made me wanna learn more about flamenco now haha, as soon as you get a chance to add to your lessons let me know i'd love to check them out. :)

Trigger_003 08-06-2006 05:29 PM

Sure thing man

My main two are trombone (5 years) and guitar (10 years). Trombone's going awesomely, but I haven't had much time for guitar lately with study and everything I'm doing with trombone (had loads of gigs and stuff). I managed to fit in 3 hours on Saturday though, which was alright. I used to practice guitar ~5 hours a day on the weekends, and several hours on weekdays... haha.
Writing up essays in Beginner Questions all the time probably doesn't help :p

I also sing every now and then for one of my bands and noodle on the piano every so often (usually only to record compositions or something), but it's not like I'm practicing those or anything.

You just play guitar?

Jo Shoe Wah 08-07-2006 01:03 AM

Yeah just guitar at the moment, i used to play trumpet and clarinet when i was younger but i don't think i really had a passion or interest in them as much as i do guitar. I love noodling around on pianos/keyboards too haha :p

That's awesome how your trombone playing is going i'd love to gig regularly.

Wow. What the hell happened to MX.

Aes820 08-09-2006 08:50 PM

The Source website that I have been working on finally got released this morning. After a lot of extra running around, causing it to take 1 week longer than what I was hoping. Oh well.

I think it looks good, just now going to clean up some little issues, like making the search results page look better.
Feedback is welcome.

Trigger_003 08-11-2006 02:25 AM

Haha, fair enough Josh
Wow. What the hell happened to MX.
OMG IT'S THE K!!!!!!

How are ya man? How's the band going and all that?

Mx is out because of that whole uproar a while back about tabs being illegal and all that jazz. So Mx was pretty much moved over to Sputnik/music reviews, meaning the site would still get visitors. And as you probably saw they've moved stuff around with the forums too... he got sick of the idiocy in the pit and deleted it.

The Source is looking good, Chris :).
Crit time!
Maybe with the expanders, it could be better to have it so that you can just click on it again to close, rather than go and click the "- close" button, because that's what a lot of people are used to doing (I just automatically clicked then went "uh, why didn't that close?" :p)
I don't know if you're in charge of content, but in about us you've got: "the source was launched in 1998 and has since been redeveloped twice, firstly in 2000 and again in 2004." Might want to add in a 2006 there... just maybe. And a capital T at the start of the sentence if you're going to be picky, but I'm sure nobody cares lol.
Copyright/disclaimer goes out to facsia - might want to make that come up in a new window, seeing your other externals do.

That's all I can really find with it. Navigation's fine, looks good, nice accessibility, yada yada. :)

Aes820 08-11-2006 05:15 AM

Thanks so much for the feedback Trea. Very much appreciated.

About the expanders, haha. That's an interesting one.
They did infact used to be 'one click to open another click to close' before I got to them.
I guess the reason why they are not now is purely because of the fact that I'm just not really all that good at Javascript.
I was trying to fool around with ideas to have something to set the display of the sibling div element to not the display of the same element. To kind of make it into a toggle.
But then I would also want to toggle the little plus sign next to the expander label into a minus sign on it's change, and all that just started getting too tricky.
For the sake of saving time I just made two seperate functions, one to close and another to open.

Maybe when I get some spare time I'll keep playing around and see if I can come up with something a bit more user friendly.
Even as it is now I'm not completely happy anyway because as I'm using onMouseup handelers for the Javascript functions, that's just not cool for people who may not be using a mouse. The way I'll end up doing the expanders should ideally be device independant, so that it retains full accessibility.
But with Javascript turned off the site is okay. Same when the CSS is off. So that's enough for now.

With the external links, we'll have to identify some sort of notification that it is an external link. If not having it open in a new window, maybe just as a graphic icon and a title attribute on the link itself. We'll think about it.

The content is not my call, but a review of the cotent is definately on the cards for the business owners of the site. I'll flag your suggestion with them. :)

Thanks so much again. I owe you one.

Trigger_003 08-11-2006 05:47 AM

Haha, can't blame you for being lazy. Sometimes a "-" just isn't worth all that work :p.

S'all good mate, any time.

jerkincrocus 08-11-2006 05:38 PM

Hey all

Hey everyone. My name is Dave. I'm from Milwaukee, WI and am pushin' 40 (I'm not talkin' malt liquor). I used to be in several bands in my younger, days but now I just jam with friends or by myself for my own enjoyment. I've been playing guitar for 27 years and I still don't consider myself to be that good. I am always looking for ways to improve. My influences range many years and many genres. I look forward to picking your brains.

Trigger_003 08-14-2006 02:25 AM

Awesome, welcome to the forums man :). I'm Trea .

Jom 08-14-2006 10:55 AM

Hey, guys.

I just have a quick question that doesn't really need a new thread on top of the ones that are here on the topic already, but:

I have FL and DKFH, and I loaned them to a friend of mine because he wanted to use them for when he records. However, even with my instructions on how to work the programs, he doesn't get it.

I was wondering if somebody would be willing to share a FL/DKFH file so I can physically SHOW him how the program looks like when it's operating correctly. It's kind of frustrating, and while part of the problem might be that his computer is kind of old, I don't see how that would make much of a difference.

So, yeah. If somebody would be willing to help me out (the programs are on my university computer and I am at home for a bit), you'd have my sincere thanks and rep++ if you're interested.

I assure you that I will not distribute your song in any form; it's only to be used as a teaching tool. After that, I'll remove it from my computer. I'm just kind of stuck is all.

Thank you to whomever.
Haha, yeah look Trea.

I just got my hands on a copy of Grieg's Warsaw Concerto, and it's pretty nuts.

Could you get me sheet music and I'll give it a look and see?
That's mentionned all the way through one of Spike Milligan's books, and I don't know anything about it.

What's it like?

Trigger_003 08-21-2006 12:51 AM

Pretty nuts.

Don't think I've got a recording, but Gav probably does.

Awesome man, i love writing but never really seem to get to a point where i'm satisfied with it, i should really finish off some of the stuff i've started come to think of it.

I've spent most of the weekend doing a shitload of assignments and stuff, drummer came around and we jammed just me and him which wasnt overly productive, but awesome fun as we havent played in ages due to schoolwork and stuff getting in the way with the other band members.

He just got some new cymbals and a double kicker so we sure had a fun time testing those out :P.

Trigger_003 08-22-2006 01:17 AM

Aww sweet as. Our drummer needs a double kick bad.

I spent a lot of time doing assignments and stuff too. Didn't manage to fit in Italian though, so that only left me last night to memorise a 500 word essay for today - haha. Sad thing is, I'm used to that kind of workload with Italian (like, 10 pages to learn in a couple of nights) so it wasn't that hard.
Don't think I'm taking it next year though, which really sucks because I'm already doing all the work the year 12s are anyway. There aren't going to be enough people for a class, and correspondance is hell when it comes to LOTEs :upset:.

I know what you mean with the song writing - I have the exact same problem... pages of unfinished ideas. Usually I'll get 2/3 to 4/5 of the song done then not know what to do for that last movement/bridge/whatever, or just not be able to write that last part in.

Wow i had no idea you were in year 11...me too :)

I'd love to learn another language fluently, though when i did LOTE way back in year 7/8 it really put me off choosing it as an elective as my teacher as well as all the other LOTE teachers were just way too brutal.

The workload has been lifted bigtime after the last two weeks, only a few things to go before yearlys and then year 12 in term 4, so that's a relief.

The double kick addition is awesome i can tell we're going to have alot of fun with this now :p

What other subjects do you do?

Oh and that sucks with the lack of people for a Latin class next year, gladly our school always runs all creative subjects but i'd assume alot of people would need to do correspondence for the languages other than German, French, Japanese and Indonesian (the main LOTE courses at our school)

Trigger_003 08-22-2006 05:24 PM

Haha, I think that was the same with our lote teachers (year 7 - first class: *door thrust open angrily* "Okay everyone, get in and SHUT UP!" *terrified little year 7s file into the classroom going OMGOMGOMGOMGOMG*)
But now that there's just 5 of us (2 yr 11s, 3 12s), he's great.

I also do English, methods (extension maths I guess), music, physics and IPM (yr 12 IT). You guys go to year 12 in term 4? Nice.

What are you doing this year/next year?

Hey Gav, you made a decision on those classes yet? I think I'm taking music solo over physics and italian... I don't know why - I complain about the teacher enough - haha

Jo Shoe Wah 08-22-2006 11:33 PM

Yeah we go into year 12 in term 4 and so it's 3 terms for year 11 (preliminary higher school certificate) then term 4 starts year 12 and we do terms 1, 2 and 3 next year for the year 12 course also, then leave term 4 next year for HSC exams and studying for those.

I'm doing music, physics, ancient history, general maths (just dropped from advanced it's such a big weight lifted i suck at maths haha), advanced english and pdhpe.

I'm able to drop one of those classes for next year if i want and i'm not sure what yet if any, either history or pdhpe it seems at the moment as i'm pretty interested physics, LOVE music, i can do well in the general maths course so i suppose i'll keep that and english is also one of my favourite subjects. The workload in pdhpe is enormous.

Your subjects sound pretty interesting, i did computer studies last year but it was all really basic stuff i did basically nothing but play games on the computer for the two years because the work was so stupidly simple like messing around with microsoft word haha.

By the way i just realised you repped me a while back, thanks :)
