Do they ever do songs off Awake much at all live? I can't remember ever hearing a live version of any songs off that album, but I'm going to see them in October and would love them to play something off that album. I'd assume though that in recent years at least, James' voice wouldn't be able to handle a lot of the songs, considering he was so amazing on this disc. Hearing him live in the last few months though it sounds like he could reach most of those notes again now.
James did an amazing job live. Much better than I expected him to be. They haven't been playing a lot of songs off Awake at Gigantour. The only other song they've played from Awake is Caught in a Web. But, if they play Lie, expect it to be ace. It was my favorite song of the whole concert. Amazing rendition. |
whats your favorite song by them
|
They played Lie and Caught in a Web.

Learning to Live and A Change of Seasons |
And ive actually just BOUGHT octavarium. I bought a cd wow.
But anyways, they have a massive amount of albums and I dont know where to go next. I completely love this album and think their a great band. Im just looking for some recommendations, songs, albums. Anything really. Peace |
Awake and Images and Words are their best albums... songs, check out Scarred, Take the Time, Learning to Live, The Glass Prison, Pull Me Under, for a start :thumb:

123123 Don't forget to check out some of the stuff from Metropolis Part 2 as well, while not their best it still contains some great songs like Beyond This Life. |
Yeah, that's probably my favorite song off SFAM. Other than that song, I think its really overrated though.
But seriously, the last 3 songs on Awake are Dream Theater's best IMO. |

Lifting Shadows Off A Dream too.
And then off Images, I'd say Take the Time, Metropolis, and Wait For Sleep + Learning to Live pwn the rest. |
Yes definitely I personally love Under A Glass Moon as well
|
Its a great song, but I prefer those others.
Take the Time is NEVER mentioned, it was the song I first got hooked on DT with. |
Take The Time was originally my favorite song off that album, but eventually it mutated into Metropolis. I still love it though.
|
Take the Time > Learning to Live > Metropolis
IMO. All great though. |
Indeed, still a classic album.
|
Very.
Oh yeah, and Blind Faith, that song is ace, but overshadowed by The Glass Prison. |
Whats dream theaters big song. Like master of puppets is to metallica. The one song where the crowd hears the first few notes and just goes insane.
|
Hmm...
Metropolis? Pretty dang hard to decide it might even be Under A Glass Moon or The Glass Prison. |
The Glass Prison got me into DT. Good song. After that, Pull Me Under, then Under A Glass Moon
|
Probably The Glass Prison is their most known song I guess.

Glass Prison is from 6th Degrees, but it still kicks butt. Images and Words just owns IMO. Awake is very good along with Metro Pt.2 and a Change of Seasons. Under a Glass Moon is my favourite Petrucci solo. Well at least I think it is for now. :thumb: |
Pull Me Under or Metropolis are the MoP-esque crowd reaction songs, probably...on Budokan they get a MAJOR pop when the opening of PMU starts.
|
I've got the Train of Thought album and absolutely love it, although I heard it was the heaviest they have ever done, can anyone recommend me a very typical Dream Theater album?

I don't like Dream Theater much at all, but I would recommend "Awake". |

I'd definatly recommend SFAM. IMO their best album alongside I&W. The whole album just flows perfectly, and has all the elements that make DT awesome. and I don't know why people think Portnoy is over rated - I doubt you can name many Rock and Metal drummers as good as him. |

Definately has to be The Glass Prison. After that Pull Me Under. |

Typical? SFAM has pretty much everything DT is about...great solos, great music, and an epic story laid out over 12 (12? I'm guessing) tracks to boot. Well worth the money you spend on it (or the bandwith you use to download it. :p ) 7 hours till Gigantour. :D |
