haha, funny thing, The first song I learned to play fully was bleak, despite, It has so many guitars in it, yet, I learned most of them (except for the first piece of acoustic, the middle section, the one that doesn't repeat itself. you know what I mean.)
|
I could record the intro to the drapery falls. The acoustic barr chord, that is. And if noone else is doing some vocals.. like I've said before I'd like to do some growls. :D
|
I'm an ok singer (was in choir and musicals for high school), but my voice isn't super deep. I could probably have good intonation on the singing though.
What would you say his lowest note is? I think from my sing-a-longs in my car I can go quite a ways lower. I can hit a low E anyday and lower on a good day... I don't think he does anything that low though. |

I don't think he does anything that low though.
He hits some low stuff on Morningrise, but ever since he's gotten good at singing he's hung out in the upper range. True enough. EDIT: And why are we picking this pussy songs? Obviously the only choices are either Blackwater Park or The Moor. :D |
I was just on the official Opeth site and the title for their up coming album is....*Drumroll*....
"Ghost Reveries" I like it.Opinions? |
I think we should form groups of several people doing each song. Separate groups for each song. We'll have one group do "The Drapery Falls" and other groups do, "Leper Affinity," or "Demon Of The Fall," whatever else you guys wanna agree to choose on.
Knifeboy: The very intro part of Drapery Falls starts off on Acoustic, then blends in with the electric. As for the new title of the cd, It's fine with me, as long as Opeth makes great music! |
So this post is basically pointless other than the fact I'm saying I'll try and record some clean vocals tomorrow.

I think we should gather around the strongest followers of particular albums, and create a song from each album
there's the groups already then I'm definatly on Still Life |

Are there any other bassists? If not, just give a list of songs to record.
|
I think I hit Nirvana...
So, I was driving back home after graduating last night....it was about...oh....3 in the morning, and I had been in the car since 7:30 AM the previous day. The night before leaving, I got about 3-4 hours of sleep.
So, I guess you could say I was pretty sleep deprived...which may have had some of an influence on my experience. Basically: I was naturally "high." Anyways, so I put on Still Life and in comes this GIANT ****ing storm...I mean, seriously, probably one of the biggest storms I've ever seen. Anyone in the Texas/Oklahoma region may have heard about it...this thing was crazy! Anyways, so it's just POURING rain, the sky looks like freaking armageddon, and there's lightning striking all over the place...hitting the ground, spreading out across the sky, etc. Now, a normal (sane?) person would have gotten freaked out and probably done the right thing by pulling the **** off the road and waiting it out. Instead, me being the Opeth nut that I am, focused on how ****ing COOL it all was and how well it went with the music. I swear it was like the song was controlling the storm or something....lightning would flash in accentuations and everything. Nothing was more fitting than when Mikael screamed: In the pouring rain nothing is the same!! At that point, everything in the universe made sense, and I obtained inner peace. :D |
That's pretty cool, what with you not dying and stuff.

"Ghost Reveries" I like it.Opinions?
Hmm....I don't. "Ghost" sounds awkward...they'd be better off using some kind of adjective or something. |
You don't like it? I think it sounds cool.
|
I'm not too excited about the album title or the song titles
:-\ |
Well, they are just song titles, they don't mean anything yet.
|
The song titles sounded fine IMO, but the title was kinda weak.
|
A rose by any other name would smell so sweet :)
unless they were called crapweed.........................or stinkdrops.................. Edit: Cardboard for Mikael wannabe! (vocalist for Opeth cover) |
so does anyone wanna join with me to do "The drapery Falls" cover?
|
Yes, I would love to do The Drapery Falls. The only problem is that I need one of those 1/4 to 1/8 inch adapters for my computer. I'll get it this weekend though.
|
Alright, for those who want to do the drapery falls, let's discuss who will play what.
Instruments needed: Lead Guitar Rhythm Guitar Bass Drums Clean Vocals Growl Vocals Acoustic |
Ehh, Drapery Falls? Why don't we do the Moor, or a rifftastic Blackwater Park song like Leper Affinity or the title track itself? I really don't think that song is powerful enough to beat out the stuff other official threads are going to do. Come on, man, the Moor would slay them. You have to admit it. And I could do most of the guitars if difficulty is a problem.
I'm game for a guitar spot, vocals, or both. |

That means not competing vs. the Official threads and stuff. I just wanna have fun jamming and I was thinking the Drapery falls would be a great song to do with yall. If you guys wanna do another song for the competition and get others involved, then you are all more than welcome to. |

Oh, ok. Sorry to jump on you. :p |
I'd like to do a growled verse in the Drapery falls... :)
|
Oh, ok. Sorry to jump on you. :p
no worries, you're more than welcome to do blackwater park or the moor for the competition. Just get something organized and go for it! |
To do that, I would need a drummer willing to lay his tracks down first. I don't ever post in the Drum forum, anybody here know of a skilled guy that could do it?
If we're going to record an Opeth song in pieces like this, I wouldn't want it to be a hackneyed, out-of-time affair. There's a lot to live up to in Opeth and that especially goes for the ability to keep time. I would say recording drums and maybe bass to a click track would be good for starters. |
I'd like to do a growled verse in the Drapery falls... :)
I gotta find a way to organize this more better. I was wondering if anyone who is interested in doing "the drapery falls," can please post clips of you doing any part of the song. So for your Darkness, I was wondering if you can post a sample of you growling over one part of song. |
Alright, should I like... have the song playing in the backaround or something? Because growls sound bad without anything behind them IMO. But whatever you want.
